Roy Williams: Dez Bryant gives us the NFL's best group of receivers

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams said Thursday night that he’s thrilled to welcome Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant, the Cowboys’ first-round pick, to the team.

“If all goes well, not trying to talk noise, but if all goes well, we’ll have the best wide receiving [corps] in the league,” Williams told Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com. “Dez is a big dude, he can play. He will help us win some ballgames.”

Williams said he takes the selection of Bryant as a message to himself and the other receivers already on the Cowboys’ roster — and it’s a message that they’ll all have to compete to have balls thrown their way, which Williams said he embraces.

“Yeah, [with] Dez it opens up competition, which brings out the best in the guys,” Williams said.

I could see them working Austin over the Deep Middle, Bryant more vertical and saying hey Roy if you wanna try and help, Work on your routes and man that short to intermediate area. He is freakin 6’4 and needs to get over his nervousness and get his head back in the game. I just hope Dez doesn’t choke playing for the hometown team as well. .02

in roy’s defense, he is a guy that was supposed to be a #1 receiver that has not panned out that way. then he accepts a first round rookie into the corps after already not having the role he wishes. that does show very good sportsmanship. i’m not a cowboys fan ( i hate them), but if it works out with those big 3 receivers all being productive, he is right that it would be a naaaasty receiving corps. good for roy, i do hope he is sincere.

Well what a suprise, a 20 year old kid lied. what has society come to.. hee, hee… a kid lied, now that’s a first. This guy’s a beast, and JJ took advantage of the hysteria going on in the NFL. He got a top five player for peanuts, because other owners have no nuts.

I think Miles Austin is a better WR than Deshawn Jackson..there is more to being a WR than being fast…routes and blocking too. Deshawn is more atheletic but that doesnt make you a better receiver. I would stick with Miles because its a matter of time before Deshawn gets hurt because of his size or lack of.
Eagles fans want to talk about character while they have a dog killer on their team..please..and Deshawn Jackson fell in the draft a few yrs ago becuase he was a punk..look in the mirror before you open your mouth. You drafted a DB that was arrested for stealing a video game before the draft(Ikaguanu-something like that) and had a player last year arrested for weed…so shut it…I know more about your team than you do.

As to the Miles Austin/Desean Jackson debate, give me the guy who’s 6’3″ and 215 versus the guy who’s 6’0″ and a buck seventy five. I do give Jackson the edge in the “who can best run their mouth on Twitter” category.

you are a moron you say stats don’t lie?
Witten – the “hall of famer” 2009 stats
    93 rec 1030 yards 2 TD
    Celek
    76 rec 971 yards 8 TD
I’ll take celeks 8 TD over the hall of famers 2.

TEXANS are the number one receiving team and nothing has changed.
Andre Johnson is a beast and the best WR in the NFL and behind him we have:
    Kevin Walter
    Jacoby Jones
    David Anderson
    Owen Daniels
    Andre Davis
Plus the other TE’s and rookie WR’s
Go Texans, beating the cowgirls this year!
