Vikings in "hot pursuit" of Haynesworth

One of the more intriguing draft rumors floating around today involves a new team that may have an interest in acquiring Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth: The Minnesota Vikings.

A league source told PFT that the Vikings are in “hot pursuit” of Haynesworth.

The rumor we heard lines up with something Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune wrote today, indicating ESPN’s John Clayton had mentioned that the Vikings had contacted the Redskins about Haynesworth.
Although Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has said there have been no Haynesworth trade talks, most people believe that Haynesworth would be available.

Haynesworth would seem to be a better fit in the Vikings’ 4-3 defense than in the new 3-4 that the Redskins are installing. In Minnesota, Haynesworth would join a defensive line that already has defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams, both of whom are still potentially facing four-game suspensions over a 2008 positive test for a prescription diuretic.

  1. Way to go Titans. Way to let another guy go to a team committed to winning.
Thanks Fish and Bud. Way to give the fans what they want.

  2. Perfect fit… Pat Williams is good, but ancient.
Plus, it may push Favre over the top to come back
A 3rd rounder would be a steal. 2nd would be worth it too considering the money left in the next couple years.

  3. DO IT! Come on Vikes, pull the trigger! The defense was already bolstered by Lito not lets get Albert!

  4. Should this trade actually happen the entire state of Wisconsin would smell from the collective shit everyone took in their pants.

  5. Yea! Vikes need a DT, QB OG & LB, CB with haynes they could target the QB or OG with the fist pick, and then zero in on the remaining needs..

  6. So…. Would they start Kevin Williams at DE? Or would they trade Fat Pat as part of the deal? A little more details would be nice. The only one on that line not “entrenched” would have to be Ray Edwards, right?

  7. NOOOO HELL NO NO NO NO… Titans get him or the Lions… by all means DO NOT LET MINNESOTA get Haynesworth!!!

  8. Wow….that would make an already awesome D-line even better. I’m sure it’s not what the rest of the NFL North wants to hear.

  9. Really? Teams are out there that need a fat lazy man? One who endangers the roads that he drives on? One who stomps on other people’s heads? One who goes after teammates with fence posts? Wow. I wouldn’t have thought that. I can name two places that aren’t interested.

  10. Well this does make perfect sense. It is the Vikings and they have a storied history of making bad personnel decisions Like Herschel Walker, Every one of their Quarterbacks since Kramer.

  11. Wow. They must know that the Williams boys are in for a suspension. I can’t imagine any other reason.

  12. HOLY S! As much of a doucer as haynesworth is if the viking get him from us WOOOOOW! thay already have the best line in the league! They would have 3 of the top 10 d lineman in league as well as ray edwards n Fat williams! That would truly b scary!

  13. @ SFTitan:
Take it from someone who lived through the end of the Oilers era – Bud Adams doesn’t care about fans or the city at all. He’s in it for a buck.
(Yes, I know it could be said about any owner, but I just don’t like the guy.)

  14. smokescreen. they’re just trying to make the Saints give up more than they are willing in a Jammal Brown / Albert Haynesworth trade.

  15. I’d have to see the price before commenting on whether it would be a good move or not.
    GO VIKES!!!
    140 Days to Redemption Baby!

  16. i sure hope the Reds don’t trade for Pat Williams, because he’ll only be good for about one more year before he decides to retire

  17. The Williams wall will NOT be suspended.
Ohhh Haynesworth and Allen on the VIKS!!!…. I think I just gizzed in my pants.

  18. Nice solution to possible suspension. Best line hands down if the move was made.
Albert wants out…….fits in 4-3 way better. Lotta $ though.

Suh + Vanden Bosch > Haynesworth + Allen

  20. So your saying that the Vikings will take the fourth pick and Haynesworth off of Washington’s in exchange for the 30th pick….. I dont think that trade would favor the Vikings……

  21. If this happens it won’t surprise me, the Vikings, Patriots and Colts have the best owners and GM’s, scouts etc. and know how to keep a good team together and to always tweak it to make it better whether it be through good drafting (A. Peterson, Harvin etc.), free agents (j. allen, a.winfield, b.favre) or trading. These teams don’t overspend on big name free agents but always find value and players in their prime and they have owners who are not afraid to spend money.

  22. Financially, this wouldn’t be that bad of a deal since the Skins have already paid out most of his $40M-something bonuses and he’s only owed $16M over the next 3 years. I wonder if they’re thinking of offering a 2nd rounder and hoping to get one back by trading down from their existing first round pick.
The problem, other than Haynesworth being an unreliable headcase, is that he plays the same position as Kevin Wiliams, not old Fat Pat Williams the line clogger. I’m not sure how that would work.

  23. If this happens the rest of the north might as well just chalk this one up to a re-builder……

  24. Guess the Vikings and there fans didn’t see many Skins games last year. Yeah, not much reason to.
They’ll see Mr. Buttersworth takes his own sweet time getting his fat lazy ass up off the ground after pretending to be hurt so he can catch his breath.
Yeah “only 16m over 3 years”. Have fun.
