Report: Raiders eying offensive tackles

According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, the Raiders are eying offensive tackles with the 39th overall pick.

It’s another indication that owner Al Davis is not ready to give up on 2007 No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell, who recently weighed in at 290 pounds.
In particular, La Canfora says the Raiders are high on Indiana’s Rodger Saffold.  Saffold, a four-year starter for the football-challenged Hoosiers, appears to be higher on Davis’ draft board than popular first-round Raiders mock pick Bruce Campbell and Charles Brown, an athletic two-year starter from USC.
Saffold has been projected to to play right tackle, left guard, and possibly left tackle — his college position — at the next level.  He was also heavily rumored to Indianapolis in the first round, before the Colts settled on pass rusher Jerry Hughes.

290 lbs? Add a couple of more pounds to Jamarcus and move HIM to left tackle.

Raiders should call the Saints and ask about Jamaal Brown. The Raiders can use a Pro Bowl Tackle and they could probably get him for the #39 pick overall and a later pick in the draft.

    JaMarcus Russell is an OT,

  4. Redleg says: Apr 23, 2010 5:23 PM

Maybe they are eying OTs, but if you are going to pay #8 pick type money to an ILB it would make more sense to pick a DT to protect him.
Raiders’ OL is BAD, but I would argue the DT position is JUST AS BAD…Seymour is better being moved around on the DL so picking a run stuffing two down DT (Cody) would help the run defense GREATLY (then you move Seymour inside on 3rd and long and send all those speedy DE/OLBs the Raiders have on the roster after the QB).

Or maybe they want to protect Gradkowski, Frye, or Boller

**Looks like JaMarcus is up to the challenge of being an O-Lineman!!**

The solution here is clear: they should draft a real QB, and then convert Jamarcus to an offensive lineman!

    No $hit!

  9. shvd98z24 says: Apr 23, 2010 5:29 PM

Why don’t they just move Jamarcus to tackle or guard…..he is damned near 300lbs…..he would have an easier time gaining weight to play line than losing it to stay a shi**y QB!

  10. ronry says: Apr 23, 2010 5:29 PM

Why not just move JaMarcus to Offensive Tackle. He’s more than big enough, besides he can’t play QB.

  11. PittsburghSteelerz says: Apr 23, 2010 5:29 PM

    They’ll select Campbell.

  12. joetoronto says: Apr 23, 2010 5:34 PM

I don’t understand how you come up with the walrus staying just because they’re going after tackles, Evan.
Maybe you can explain, but I doubt it.

I wish we would take J. Clausen, but that would mean Al Davis would have to admit to making a mistake with JaMarcus Russell.

  14. Grimmlock42 says: Apr 23, 2010 5:43 PM

I’m all about drafting Charles Brown, but if the colts were on the verge of drafting Rodger Saffold, then it might be a good idea to take him. Why not take advantage from one of the best teams in the league leaking some information.

WTF! Why is it every time the Raiders do anything on the offensive side of the ball its an indication about Jamarcus? How about this….NO MATTER WHO THE QB IS ON THE RAIDERS THEY NEED A TACKLE! The running game needs a decent tackle too. So even though you have a hard on for Jamarcus maybe….JUST MAYBE, there is more to this story than Jamarcus Russell!

What do you clowns do; read each other’s comments and then post the same damn thing?
What is this; the damn ‘Matrix’?
    Get an individual style.
‘See you when we host the damn playoffs.

Are we done with the “Jamarcus Russell can play tackle” jokes yet?

  18. Grimmlock42 says: Apr 23, 2010 5:56 PM

Nevermind. Don’t draft Rodger Saffold. His highlights are no better than Bruce Campbell. Draft Brian Price UCLA. Thanks.

  19. Raydahz says: Apr 23, 2010 5:57 PM

I think Evan’s point isn’t that the Raiders don’t need an OT, but that they are indicating that they’ll be passing on a potentially great opportunity to draft a 1st round talent QB in the 2nd round.
Of course, this doesn’t mean jack. The Raiders are fantastic at the smoke and mirrors game and could be set to make a move to pick Clausen or McCoy.
We’ll have to wait and see 🙂

I’ll be pissed if they select Campbell and Terrence Cody is still on the board. Sure, the offensive line needs help in a bad way, but Cody is still available, and if they took him, the defense would be good to go. There will be other work out warriors to draft in later rounds.

  21. funi says: Apr 23, 2010 6:01 PM

    Raiders will draft a kicker!

  22. tango says: Apr 23, 2010 6:06 PM

Ja Junk is a real turd and Dead Al is a bigger one if he does not jettison him asap. The Raider fans will stay awy in droves, more than last year if JaJunk steps on the field. Al , don’t you get it ? What a stupid question !!

  23. joetoronto says: Apr 23, 2010 6:16 PM

    Right on the money, Redleg.

As usual, there are already 6 comments that more or less say the same thing:
“I know! Maybe JaFATBUTT BUSTFACE should move to tackle LOL…”
I’ve got a better idea. Come up with something ORIGINAL to say once in a while.

  25. comment_submission_error says: Apr 23, 2010 6:45 PM

Raider fan is getting a bit touchy about Russell. At least Al didn’t do anything weird this year, like drafting Tim Tebow in the first round.
