So much for the Vikings drafting at the top of round two a potential successor to Brett Favre.
After being Rex-blocked for cornerback Kyle Wilson and having the Saints take cornerback Patrick Robinson after Minny traded down four spots to upgrade in round four, they selected Virginia cornerback Chris Cook.
Cook also can play safety, another area of need for the Vikings. Per Nolan Nawrocki of Pro Football Weekly, Cook has the size but not the physicality or aggressiveness to thrive at safety.
With a pick at the bottom of round two, the Vikings could still take Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy, if their slides continue.

Not big on a DB here. We already have about 10 between the active roster and practice squad. I do not see him playing very much. But what do I know.
The Vikings had a need at CB and they filled it. Great job Vikes!
norseman69: lol, what do you think about the pick?
Vikes will take Pike, Skelton or Laflever
I hope speilman knows what hes doing?
Snookered by the Saints again,,,,,,,,,,HA
What and the f@#$ is going on? When are they going to pull their heads out of their asses? not saying I love Clausen or McCoy, although I’d rather have McCoy. But seriously when are we going to think about the future? McNabb is not the answer!!!!
If they wanted a safety, why not Taylor Mays from USC. Draft day can be so frustrating sometimes.
Brett was NOT ok with taking Clausen.
I will defer to their draft record and say we did good, but i cant see this guy contributing much next year. There are so many playmakers left, please take one.
cook could have been there later in the draft. I agree with purlpeDawg
Terrible pick.
The guy is #4 or 5 on the depth chart. Even if you dont take a QB here, the need at OL help is much more glaring than DB.
I’ll also point out that the Vikes will have 1 QB on roster at the end of the season, so those who THINK they dont need a QB, chew on that.
Personally, they should have taken Clausen, but I do like LaFevour later as well.

Im with you on this one however I think a QB will be the next pick.
Just what we needed, another soft safety.
Oh wait, Skelton, Pike, or LeFevour would be great….We all know how well Chilly molds young QBs. He could develop them just like he has done with TJa……Oh wait, nevermind.
you just never know with cornerbacks
theres no way to tell who will be better while drafting
Clausen or McCoy could easily still be on the board at 30 in this round. The camps that were expected to pick a QB (Browns, Bills) passed on them too.
The vikings have a qb need and they blew it
Chris Cook is not the answer. Footwork is poor and backpedal isn’t great. The Vikes continue to do this and it pisses me off. They took Marcus McCauley he was around for a couple years without doing much and then was gone. Asher Allen was taken last year and I don’t see him offering anymore than Cook.
I was sold on Kyle Wilson, any other CB shouldn’t have been the pick in my opinion.
HEY NICK I THINK YOU WOULD LOOK GOOD SPORTING A MULLET. REPRESENT FALLS CHURCH SON
I’m hoping they grab McCoy later in round 2.
Vikings will pick McCoy if he is still available at the 62nd pick.
dumb
I think Cook brings a whole new mess of AIDs to Minnesota. Keep your shirt sleeves on Nate, the FC can’t support the party in the back like Stafford.
BrINT Favre would have blown a gasket if the Vikes took a QB early (for proof, look at the hissy fit he threw when the Packers drafted Rodgers without his permission)
To ask a coach to humiliate himself even further (as if cross dressing and taxi driver isn’t enough) by living with BrINT’s bruised ego and a solid prospect sitting on the bench would be too much to ask. Even if a solid QB was the best thing for the organization.
