The Vikings should be putting a package of picks together to trade with the Rams. We could give them our 2nd pick in the 2nd round and our first pick in the 5th round plus T-Joke for their 2nd round. Then we take Mays AND Clausen and would still have a pick in every round (except for the first that we traded out of). In my humble opinion, having those two players alone make it a successful draft….not to mention we get rid of T-Jack too!! He signed his tender on Monday, so hes fair game to trade away.

I love how the envious and misinformed believe Brett won’t last another year. Ignorance certainly must be bliss, huh???
Favre is, for all intents and purposes, unable to be beaten to the point of not starting his next game.
Good Lord, you people are obtuse as hell. 19 years of evidence not enough? Brett plays smart and has a body perfectly suited to withstand the rigors of the NFL.

We’re told that, despite Favre’s silence, the Vikings think he’ll play two more years. If that’s the case, there’s no reason to begin grooming his replacement now.

That is PRECISELY the reason to start grooming his replacement now.
If history has told us anything, it’s that QB’s benefit from riding pine for at least a few years. Now is the time to address the QB situation regardless of how long Favre is going to play.
He could sign a 7 year contract with a “no retirement” clause and I would still want to address the QB situation now.

i don’t like clausen at all, but still think that the vikings have to seriously consider picking him up if the rams don’t work a trade with the 33 pick. regardless of whether favre plays one or two more years, those would be quality years to groom his replacement rather then throwing a guy out there wet behind the ears. it took aaron rodgers three years, remember, and his first year as a starter he was definitely still working out the kinks.

I totally agree on Favre. As long as his arm strength and accuracy remain, he will want to play. I think 2 years is very realistic. The Vikings ‘brain trust’ has been one of the best in the draft over the past 4 years. They have a vision and stick to it. Personally, I think this QB class is WAY overrated. I don’t see the Vikes taking a QB this year. Instead, I could see them trading down and/or packaging a few of their nine remaining picks to position themselves to pick a QB in next year’s draft. With the signing of Lito at CB, they can use the remaining picks to load up on youth in the areas of need. The beauty is that they don’t have any glaring weakness or hole for this year. Drafting a QB this year (unless they honestly see Clausen or McCoy as an heir to Favre) is a wasted pick.

I am surprised no one sees what the Vikings are doing. Of course they want Jimmy Clausen. They also know there are other teams who want him who will try to trade up in front of them to the Rams pick to get him. So they are letting it be known that they think Favre will play two more years to make the other teams think they have no interest in taking a QB. Nice try, Vikes, but if it’s so obvious that I can see it, the other teams aren’t buying it either. You’ll have to live with Colt McCoy.

Hauschild is correct, the ankle thing is strictly so Chilly and Co. can deflect all questions about Favre skipping camp.
Action Dan makes a great point too, Favre playing another year or two should have no bearing whatsoever on the Vikes taking a QB. Most of these guys are better off not thrown into the fire.

We were out on the practice field early one morning, it was still a bit misty out, and we saw this old guy coming towards us slowly with a bit of a hitch in his walk. We thought maybe it was a hobo got into the stadium somehow, but the guy walked right toward us and you could see this strange light in his eye. He picked up the ball and no one said a thing. Then he looks at LeRon and says “you, run, that way” and points down the field. Well he didn’t have to tell him twice we were all really spooked by that time.
LeRon takes off full speed. About 50 yards down the field he looks back in case the guy is chasing him. Guy cocks his arm, and Wham, this perfect tight spiral howitzer shot down the field. LeRon is running hard as he can, stretches full length, and “plop” into his fingertips. Real soft, like someone handing you a baby. Then the old bum says, “thanks, thanks a lot guys”, and limps off into the mist.
We told Coach when he came out, and he just smiled. “Yeah, yeah, I hear that same story every year about this time, c’mon lets get to work.”.

I find this to be overly optimistic. Given Favre’s age and his struggles last year with opponents who put a lot of pressure on him, this year’s opponents (the AFC East, NFC East and the NFC North) provide a much more difficult schedule where Favre will have to remain healthy against many very good and aggressive defenses.
Frankly, I believe teams will take the approach the Saints used last year; making it unlikely that Favre maintains his games started streak.
I doubt he finishes the year.
