We’ve inevitably missed a few nuggets over the last few days of dizzying draft action.
One item we missed until now was Kansas City’s intended use for their bold No. 36 overall pick Dexter McCluster. Primarily a running back late in his Ole Miss career, the Chiefs announced him as a wide receiver.
“I don’t think the transition will be that hard,” McCluster said.
The Chiefs plan to use McCluster in a variety of roles. He’ll get some carries and perhaps play a some Wildcat quarterback. But his primary role initially will be as a slot receiver.
"[McCluster] was one of the higher-rated running backs we’ve had on the board and he was one of the higher-rated receivers we had on the board,” coach Todd Haley said.
The Chiefs need more help at wideout, and McCluster has plenty of experience at the position from college. Combine McCluster with Jamaal Charles, and the Chiefs offense may be a lot of fun to watch next year.
