Eagles take Mike Kafka to develop behind Kevin Kolb

Jeff Garcia probably isn’t coming back to Philadelphia.

The Eagles filled out their quarterback depth chart by trading up to select Northwestern quarterback Mike Kafka with the No. 122 pick of the draft.

Kafka was called a big sleeper by Ron Jaworski and a few other savvy analysts we defer to. Kafka wound up being the fifth quarterback taken, selected ahead of Tony Pike and Dan LeFevour.

With Michael Vick unlikely to be in Philadelphia after 2010, Kafka figures to be the long-term backup to Kevin Kolb. Kafka has a similar profile to Kolb, as someone with high football intelligence and good decision making skills.

We can’t wait until the raging Kafka-Kolb quarterback controversy, coming in Week Two of the 2011 season after the Eagles lose their opener.
