Faneca refused to take a pay cut

As it turns out, guard Alan Faneca could have stayed with the Jets, if he’d simply been willing to reduce his salary of $7.5 million.

Per a league source, Faneca refused.  And so he’s gone.

The tampering rules notwithstanding, Faneca’s agent presumably gauged the market to see if Faneca could get a better deal elsewhere.  If so, look for Faneca to land with a new team soon.

Likely he will come back to town, ala Randle El, Foote and McFadden.

Got a perfect fit for him at RG for the Redskins! FYI Florio, me saying this is in fact NOT tampering by Washington.

Packers need O-line help. Would be a great addition. Hopefully TT can see this and open the check book!

Arizona Cardinals are ready for Faneca to join them.

  13. DarkHorse81 says: Apr 24, 2010 1:30 PM

If the Redskins want that O-Line to get better they should try and work something out with Faneca makes all the sense in the world for the Redskins to get a veteran guard that would improve their team immediately.

  14. Sociofan says: Apr 24, 2010 1:31 PM

    Faneca WILL land in D.C.
…he may take off again, but you KNOW the Danny will kick the tires.

  15. FreeAgentPro says: Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM

Faneca in a Steelers uniform for the first 6 games! He and RatBurger are about the same size…

  16. Vikes-N-Favre says: Apr 24, 2010 1:35 PM

    He will be a Viking.

you don’ draft gophers not named eric decker.
this has been disapointing, but, they know more than i do so just wait to see.

So, money is the issue? Uncapped year? And who needs offensive linemen? REDSKINS! Why is this deal not already done?!?!

  20. funi says: Apr 24, 2010 1:44 PM

To either Pittsburgh or az or 1 season.

  21. Bwa Ha Ha says: Apr 24, 2010 1:51 PM

Eagles did not take a single O line guy (yet) in this draft. Sign Faneca and shift Cole to full time Center.

Move Over Mike Williams…. Here comes Alan Faneca!

  23. Deb says: Apr 24, 2010 2:11 PM

Faneca doesn’t belong in a Steelers uniform at $7.5 million.
Aging is an unfortunate reality. We let him go in the first place because he was aging and didn’t want to take a paycut. Now he’s even older and apparently STILL doesn’t want to take a paycut.

  24. jollyrob68 says: Apr 24, 2010 2:11 PM

    He’ll be in Arizona.

  25. CharlieAS says: Apr 24, 2010 2:30 PM

No one needs him more than Da Bearse.

  26. contract says: Apr 24, 2010 2:51 PM

Told you Faneca would never accept a pay cut. He’s ALL about the money.
And don’t expect him back in Pittsburgh either.

  27. CharlieAS says: Apr 24, 2010 3:02 PM

With the Pack having the top 3-4 D, Minnesota having Jared Allen and the Bears trying to develop Chris Williams at LT, it would be nice to have an LG who can coach on the field. Also, Omiyale will then be learning one position (RT) not two. It also frees up Kreutz to do what he does best… use his mobility to pull or get to the second level. For the Bears, picking up Faneca could possibly improve four positions along the line of scrimmage.

Jets are morons for all their offseason moves

  29. Steeler-lady says: Apr 24, 2010 3:34 PM

Isnt this the same reason he left the Burgh??? MONEY?

  30. spyboots says: Apr 24, 2010 3:38 PM

I wonder which team will overpay to get him.

  31. Jetsman80 says: Apr 24, 2010 4:31 PM

He wouldn’t compromise for the team.
    F##K him.
He can have fun back in Pittsburg blockin for the rapist.
    J-E-T-S…JETS…JETS…JETS !

  32. GaryClark says: Apr 24, 2010 4:32 PM

    Dear Alan,
I love you and I will sign you because my draft was less than marginal. So i owe it to the fans of DC.
    Sincerely,
    Dan Snyder

  33. Steelintn says: Apr 24, 2010 4:37 PM

The way Coach Tomlin answered the question about him coming back, I doubt Allen will be allowed anywhere near the Steelers again.

  34. bigstorm says: Apr 24, 2010 4:39 PM

    contract…..
He is all about the money???? Have you seen the foundation that he set up in Pittsburgh?
Like you wouldn’t leave Burger King for McDonald’s for an extra 20% more. Unfortuantely, McD’s thinks you are overpaid where you are.
Get Al back to Pitt and sign him to a three year deal with a lower average.

  35. gooboy6 says: Apr 24, 2010 5:46 PM

  36. Boo Hoo Florio picked on your team - GET OVER IT says: Apr 24, 2010 7:51 PM

He gave up 7 sacks. 7 sacks for a guard. How does a guard playing at that level make the Pro Bowl? If he’s not done, he’s close.

  37. dclive says: Apr 24, 2010 10:35 PM

Screw the jets, their fatass coach will slow them down with all the free doughnuts
