As it turns out, guard Alan Faneca could have stayed with the Jets, if he’d simply been willing to reduce his salary of $7.5 million.
Per a league source, Faneca refused. And so he’s gone.
The tampering rules notwithstanding, Faneca’s agent presumably gauged the market to see if Faneca could get a better deal elsewhere. If so, look for Faneca to land with a new team soon.

If the Redskins want that O-Line to get better they should try and work something out with Faneca makes all the sense in the world for the Redskins to get a veteran guard that would improve their team immediately.

Aging is an unfortunate reality. We let him go in the first place because he was aging and didn’t want to take a paycut. Now he’s even older and apparently STILL doesn’t want to take a paycut.

With the Pack having the top 3-4 D, Minnesota having Jared Allen and the Bears trying to develop Chris Williams at LT, it would be nice to have an LG who can coach on the field. Also, Omiyale will then be learning one position (RT) not two. It also frees up Kreutz to do what he does best… use his mobility to pull or get to the second level. For the Bears, picking up Faneca could possibly improve four positions along the line of scrimmage.
