Vikings take Everson Griffen

A day after the Patriots reportedly had USC defensive end Everson Griffen on the phone and ready to pick him in round three before trading down, the Minnesota Vikings nabbed Griffen with the second selection in round four.

The Patriots denied that they were poised to take Griffen, a claim that we weren’t inclined to believe, for a variety of reasons.  Apart from the fact that we don’t believe most of what teams say publicly, the Pats may have been plotting the possibility of getting Griffen in round four.

And we know that the Patriots took receiver Taylor Price with a selection after the trade.  But that doesn’t mean they weren’t still hoping to get Griffen.

  1. I hope the Pats were looking for him. Anything to piss off the Pats makes most people happy.

  2. I can hear major dad cackling now: “I just pulled another one on Belichick, nya nya…”
    I hate that guy.

  3. A great value pick for the Vikings…..many of the experts had Griffen being a late 1st rounder or early 2nd. Griffen has a non-stop motor which easily frustrates offensive lineman.

  4. Awesome pick!! This guy was projected to go in the first with some experts.
    No need for Albert here.

  5. I think the Patriots called him to say “Hey guess what? We’re making you a Viking with this phone call.”

  6. He won’t take plays off with the vikes. Jared Allen will put his foot up his ass if try’s to.

  7. Good pick for the future,Ray won’t be back after this season. Viks should go get Rolle ASAP. Willams is bad at times and Johnson is lost. Starters should be Sanford and Anderson

  8. Hey may have talent, but the guy’s a lazy ass and a head case. The Vikes least position of need was DE. We pick a backup RB that’s fairly one-dimensional when a veteran free agent would have sufficed and we already have a pro bowl stud starter place. We’ve now got a zillion CBs and DEs, but remain thin at LB and interior O-line, weak at safety and have no QB for the future. I’m decidedly underwhelmed.

  9. Glass is half full, eh buddy! Another year before all the needs, need to be met… so for now and next years free agency & draft, possible trades, Simma down.

  10. Faneca will sign by Friday, we need this guy in on 3rd down along with Kevin robison and Kennedy. Happy with draft we filled all the holes we had that made us loose to the saints

  12. Well seems like Favre is coming back… I bet Griffen’s motor will turn up once he has to earn playing time behind Edwards and Allen, especially since Allen and Robison have some of the best non stop motors out of any DE’s..
Like the pick, just wish I would have heard “Vikings select.. Colt McCoy”
oh well… I’ll start looking at this years seniors now, haha.

  13. hes gonna be the next vernon gholston which is why bill didnt take him n is prolly why he slid so far down in the draft…im a pats fan but i like to see the vikings do well so i hope he works out for minnesota

Another steal…Vikings really know how to draft.

As is evident by their trophy case.

    ==========================
Year 5 for Chilly. Year 4 for Speilman.
Wasn’t it you who said it takes 5 years?
Or is this another double standard?
I guess I should prepare for backtracking and subterfuge, huh?
