Vikings take Everson Griffen

A day after the Patriots reportedly had USC defensive end Everson Griffen on the phone and ready to pick him in round three before trading down, the Minnesota Vikings nabbed Griffen with the second selection in round four.

The Patriots denied that they were poised to take Griffen, a claim that we weren’t inclined to believe, for a variety of reasons. Apart from the fact that we don’t believe most of what teams say publicly, the Pats may have been plotting the possibility of getting Griffen in round four.

And we know that the Patriots took receiver Taylor Price with a selection after the trade. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t still hoping to get Griffen.
