It’s hard to trust any front office that doesn’t know how to evaluate their own roster.
The Bucs handed wide receiver Michael Clayton a five-year deal with $10.5 million in guarantees last February, and now they are trying to unload him.
Good luck with that.
Clayton will likely be released eventually. The former No. 15 overall pick has never lacked for effort, but how could they think he was worth the money after five disappointing years with the team?
To make up for that mistake, the Bucs hit the draft hard at wideout. The Bucs think rookie receivers Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams will both be starters, possibly right away.
Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times also says defensive tackles Chris Hovan and Ryan Sims are available. PFT hears Sims is not being shopped because of his lower base salary.
It will be tough to get anything for either player considering John Henderson didn’t interest anyone.
