Rookie jerseys for sale

Now that we know where the big-name rookies will be playing football to launch their NFL careers, fans can focus on important matters.  Like plunking down money for jerseys bearing the new players’ names and numbers.

Our colleague Darren Rovell of CNBC has the list.

In Denver, the Tim Tebow jersey will be the cheapest one to acquire.  All the fans need to do is buy a nameplate to cover up the name “Marshall” on their existing No. 15 jerseys.

Also, Rams quarterback Sam Bradford will wear No. 8, and Panthers quarterback Jimmy Clausen will don No. 2 in Carolina.

UPDATE:  Several of you have pointed out that Tebow actually is wearing No. 10.  Which means that Broncos fans can’t simply retrofit their Brandon Marshall jerseys, after all.

SECOND UPDATE:  The Broncos tell us that Tebow will indeed wear No. 15, and that the shirt at his introductory press conference bore No. 10 because it was the 2010 draft.

Ugh, what is it with quarterbacks nowadays and these single-digit numbers? I’m sorry, but a true QB number should be 12, 13, 14, 16 or maybe 17. Other than Elway, how many great quarterbacks have single-digit jersey numbers?

Is there a nameplate to cover “Broncos” too? Other options include wearing potato sack over jersey or not buying it.

Actually, Cowboys fans will have a much easier time getting a Dez Bryant jersey. ANTONIO Bryant used to be #88 for the Cowboys — the same number that DEZ Bryant will wear.
Think of all the lost jersey sales for Jerry Jones. I think somebody in the front office forgot to do their homework on this one.

Where are they getting Tebow jerseys at? I do not see any for sale on the Broncos website or NFL.com. I now that Dez Bryant had jerseys on sale the day after the draft on the Cowboys website.

Also I think this is wrong, Tebow was holding up a jersey on the Denver news (local I live in Denver) and the number was 10.

Ludicrous statement. The following have all either won multiple SB rings, MVP’s, or both, and all have/had single digit numbers
    Aikman
    Favre
    Steve Young
    Mcnair
And since all of them are, or likely will be, in the HOF you can’t argue they aren’t great.

He is holding up a jersey that is #10 because he was drafted in 2010. That is not the # he will be wearing. Jabar Gaffney is #10, and Tebow will be #15.

  33. Calgaryhawk says: Apr 26, 2010 3:36 PM

Earl Thomas fans don’t rush out and buy a Seahawks #29 with his name on it just yet.
Leon Washington also wore #29 with the Jets. There could be some negotiations coming as to who gets that number. I would think that NFL vet gets it over a rookie who hasn’t played a single game. Thomas could very well be moving to a different number later this week.

Tebow will be wearing 15. He was photographed with the No. 10 jersey b/c he was drafted in 2010. Demaryius Thomas also had a No. 10 jersey as hit intro presser, but he’ll be wearing No. 88.

    1. what the hell is a “true QB number”? Quarterbacks can wear any number between 1 and 19 and it’s been that way a long time.
    2. There’s been plenty of great QB’s with single digit jersey numbers. Steve Young, Troy Aikman, and Brett Favre just off the top of my head. And even today, top guys like Ben Roethilisberger, Donovan McNabb and Drew Brees have single digit numbers.

  56. ncm42 says: Apr 26, 2010 3:58 PM

It’s already been pointed out that Tebow was holding up “10” for the 2010 draft. Jabar Gaffney might not like having a rookie take his jersey number. If Gaff did give it up, I have a feeling brady quinn would have the next crack at it.

“Even as an eagles fan I find that unreal that they would disrespect Irvin in that way!!!!”
Well, Einstein, Irvin is already on record saying he is excited to have a young player wearing #88. Irvin still has a lot of respect in Dallas and is frequently seen at the team’s headquarters. Drew Pearson had the number before Irvin did anyway. If you find it unreal that Irvin would be disrespected “that way”, try talking to your fellow fans who cheered as he laid motionless (and possibly paralyzed at the time) in your city of brotherly love.
