Tiki gets served, divorce papers

Several weeks ago, even as some of you were complaining that we had avoided the story of Tiki Barber leaving his wife for another woman while his wife was eight months pregnant with twins because we’re beholden to NBC, we actually had posted several stories on the subject.

So here’s the latest.

Barber has been served with divorce papers by his wife, Ginny.  According to TMZ (not to be confused with TMZ-ESPN), the development comes at a time when the couple had agreed to press pause on the dissolution of their marriage until the new Barber babies had been born.

And, yes, Tiki was at the 2010 NFL draft — but not as part of the NBC Sports contingent, which consisted of yours truly and Rosenthal.  Still, the New York Daily News reports that Tiki remains a contributor to the Today show.

In this context, “contributor” possibly means “guy who’ll never been seen on camera again but will remain on the payroll until his contract expires.”

  1. Meeeeeeanwhile, back at the Bat Cave, Batman was making a peanut butter and jelly saaaaaaaaandwhhhhhhich….

  2. Is there a rule against a married man working at NBC having an affair with a college intern?
Because if there is, I think Tiki is going to have to plead ignorance on this one.
Clearly no one – neither NBC, nor his pregnant wife, mentioned that such things were frowned upon.

  3. I couldn’t stand him as a player and I can’t stand him now. I hope to never see him on the air again.

  4. That was an expensive “medal count” for Tiki.
Because, you know, the stuff you get for free always costs more.

  5. Saw this head and thought, “Why cover an idiot former player’s personal life?” Are you kidding? People have been complaining because there’s not enough gossip on PFT??? Good grief.
Olympic coverage cut into my morning news, so I switched from “Today” to “GMA” in Feb. & haven’t switched back. Nevermind what he does in his off time. Barber should get the ax because he’s a terrible broadcaster. Really. Terrible. Bet you and Rosenthal would be better. You couldn’t be worse.

  6. Let’s hear Peter King tout this average Running Back and POS human being for the Hall of Fame now.

  7. Rumors are floating that recently hired NBC football analyst Mike Florio was spotted last week dining with young intern Gregg Rosenthal at a food bank in Lower Manhatten during the NFL draft.

  8. Florio, here’s a tip. Before you post something, read it out loud. If you cannot get a sentence out comfortably in one breath, it’s too long. It will also help you catch silly typos.

  9. Giants win the Super Bowl after that Jack ass Leaves
And now his wife hits the jackpot after he lays around with a kid. Your the man Tiki….NOT!

“What a poor excuse for a male. An honorable man would never do that.”
    Never do what?
    Get Married??

“Is there a rule against a married man working at NBC having an affair with a college intern?”
That seems to be the case, when the intern is shit-faced drunk with a BAC of 0.2, and she’s wearing a button that says “Down To F*ck” while she maintains a white-knuckled grip on your pecker.

  12. I am sure your mamas real happy tiki
    What a POS
Used to be the king of NY now your just another scumbag that knocks up his wife and then goes and gets a young one
Now your lossing the only ring you will ever have
    ahole
Maybe Brandon Jacobs and the Giants O line can go raise your 4 kids they made you a great RB maybe they can make your kids great as well and the ex may enjoy some real men

  13. Tiki Barber is a tool! He leaves the Giants after ripping on Eli and they get a ring. Then he says stupid stuff over the air and gets fired. Now his wife is leaving his toad stool looking azz. What a looser!

  14. Man, I wouldn’t want to be him. He had 2 options: stay married to someone that you’re not attracted to (ever seen a pic of her?) because you have 4 kids w/ her OR get an expensive divorce (either bc you obviously cheated or bc you’re an honest man that just couldn’t see the rest of your life turning out in a manner that you couldn’t accept). Makes me shudder just thinking about it. I’m not saying it’s okay, just that I understand. Better him than me, I guess.

  15. It’s a fact that the time when most married men cheat is usually when the wify is pregnant. Sad but true.

  16. Me-ki would be wise to never come back to Giants Stadium before a Big Blue home crowd. His ego wouldn’t be able to handle the chorus of boos.

  17. For his sake, he had better not call Michael Strahan’s loser.
Funny, though, how this story is being played down as much as possible in the media capital of the world. I wonder why that is.

  18. He never had good timing, retiring before the Giants won the SB thinking it was time to launch a tv career and cheating on his wife when she’s 8 months pregnant. Couldn’t happen to a bigger douche bag

  19. Deb says: Saw this head and thought, “Why cover an idiot former player’s personal life?” Are you kidding? People have been complaining because there’s not enough gossip on PFT??? Good grief.
It was your people, Deb, the whining Steeler fans who were pissed about so many Ben posts and complaining that nothing had been said about Tiki when, in fact, there had been.

————————————————-Oh Sweetie, he knew what she looked like when he wed her and bed her without protection and impregnated her with twins. HE mapped out that life he suddenly couldn’t accept. If he didn’t like it, he shouldn’t have put a ring on it. And from a woman’s perspective, have you ever taken a look at him??? To quote you, makes me shudder … and not in a good way.

  21. Don’t make fun of Rosenthal!!! Until I saw him and Florio on video I never knew hobbits really existed.

  22. Best line from “True Lies”
    Women, can’t leave ’em…. can’t kill ’em.
Keep your pants on, its too expensive.

  23. I guess piece of mind is priceless….NOT
I hope he is at least a good father to those twins.

  24. Florio, I’ve been a general fan of yours but I have to call you on some BS. Tiki is an employee of your network, like it or not. Your potshot at ESPN, while deserved, may be ill timed in an article about the failings of NBC. It’s simple divergence. It would be as if Ben Roethlisberger apologized for his actions, and then said “and anyways, we all remember what Ray Lewis did, right???”
By the way, if you’re knocking the 30 for 30 documentaries, I’ll take exception to that. I’m a longstanding ESPN critic who has thoroughly enjoyed most of these films, and applaud ESPN for finally stepping out of its box a bit.

  25. mzezulak is right. Couldnt happen to a bigger douche bag. I caught his act on Fox and Friends (the homeland of idiocy). Great coverage. What an ubelievable a-hole. Fantastic article…there’s still hope for you, Florio.

  26. Is there a biggest loser than Tiki? I mean look at his karma. All those years in the NFL with no Superbowl ring and the very next year after he retires, the Giants win!
He aspires to be a TV star and then abuses his on air soap box by ripping on his ex teammates only to lose his job.
He should be enjoying the miracle of child birth of twins, instead he is locked out of his own house and sent to the dog house.
Talk about getting what he deserves.

  27. he couldnt carry one football without fumbling, how the hell could he be expected to carry two children

  28. Publicly humiliating his wife with a sleazy intern.
    Forget broadcasting.
This guy sounds like White House material.

  29. Why would we care? Why would any of you care? The only one that should would be Tiki and his family.

  30. “Several weeks ago, even as some of you were complaining that we had avoided the story of Tiki Barber leaving his wife for another woman while his wife was eight months pregnant with twins because we’re beholden to NBC, we actually had posted several stories on the subject.”
    Longest sentence ever…

  31. Maybe Tiki can tell us all about his SAT score. At length. Once again. Several times.
I crunched the numbers and here is what Tiki has been doing for the last decade (as a % of his time)…
Talking up his pedestrian SAT score – 40%
    Fumbling the football – 30%
    Sleeping – 30%
    Winning a Super Bowl – 0%

  32. @tryagain …
Obviously, I don’t follow the crowd.
Can’t stand him and think he’s a sleaze, but it’s not football news, and his private life is none of my business … or PFT’s. (But couldn’t resist commenting on HandsofSweed’s odd belief that poor trapped Tiki just stumbled into marriage through no fault of his own … wha??)
Tiki (who names a boy Tiki?) should lose his NBC job because he truly sucks at it, not because of his marital troubles. I’m sure he’s not the only NBC employee having an affair.
