Keith Bulluck still a possibility for Lions?

Although Lions coach Jim Schwartz has basically ruled out signing free agent linebacker Keith Bulluck, Tom Kowalski of MLive.com writes that there may still be a chance of Bulluck ending up in Detroit.

Schwartz has never directly stated whether or not the Lions want Bulluck. Instead, when Bulluck’s name comes up, Schwartz typically says something along the lines of, “He’s got a knee” or “He’s got an ACL.”

The inference from Kowalski, then, is that Schwartz would be open to signing Bulluck if Bulluck can be cleared medically.

The Tennessee Titans are also thought to be interested in bringing back Bulluck if he’s cleared medically, and if he’s not going to ask for too much money.

Bulluck suffered a torn ACL in the Titans’ 14th game of 2009. He had started all 14 games of the season before then, just as he had started every game of every season for the Titans since 2002.

Trade Ernie Sims for a 5th rounder and go sign Keith Bulluck…. same old Lions doing the same stupid things over and over again.

The question is who else are the Lions looking at? Then we go from there.

We need someone… Follet still needs another year before starting. Or move avril back to olb… Played that at purdue. Fast and strong for outside

The last linebacker we passed on with an ACL was Jonathan Vilma. (Traded for a 4th round pick).
Schwartz knows Bulluck and Pacman and Haynesworth, so I’m all for any of them that he sees fit to bring in.
Ultimately, I’d love to trade for Shawn Merriman though. John Henderson could take some serious pressure and double teams off Suh.

That’s right, keeping around an overpaid, overhyped player like Sims, to continue to “free lance” and miss assignments makes all the sense in the world. How many Lions games have you watched in the past three seasons? I’ve watched them all, and I can tell you that Sims is more reputation that substance. He might do OK for the Eagles, but he won’t be a Pro Bowler. He is easily blocked, and in some instances doesn’t need to be blocked because he takes himself out of the play. And that’s just in the running game. In the pass defense he’s pretty much useless, which is why he came off the field in nickle and dime defense situations.
Oh….and by the way….we traded Sims for Tony Sheffler and a 7th round pick, not just a fifth round selection (which went to the Broncos), so get your facts straight.

    @ vegassquire,
Um, the Lions traded a linebacker who can’t understand how NFL defenses or offenses work in Ernie Sims for a 7th round pick and Tony Sheffler. Keith Bulluck is a better short term LB than Sims, he’s a better tackler and better in coverage than Sims. He might be old, but as a short term solution it’s a good move if they bring him in. Plus we know he fits and understands the defense Schwartz runs because he played for him in Tennessee for 7 years.

whoever gets Ninja Turtle Keith will get a great player for a seemingly workable contract . I hope he comes back to the Titans , but if not Cowboys,Lions, and Dolphins are teams I could see him with .
