Lutui could be odd man out in Arizona

Alan Faneca isn’t going to the Cardinals to sit on the bench.

He should be immediateley inserted at left guard, which means someone will lose a starting job and a roster spot in Arizona.  Deuce Lutui, who could get displaced on the right side by Reggie Wells, is the man to watch.

A second-round pick in 2006, Lutui hasn’t signed his restricted free agent tender this offseason.  When Faneca was signed, speculation started regarding whether the team could pull his offer.

It looks like that won’t happen.  Coach Ken Whisenhunt hopes to see Lutui at this weekend’s minicamp.  Seeing Lutui on the Week One roster sounds far less certain.

  1. I wonder if the Cards realize how bad of a pass blocker Faneca is. I hope Matt Leinart has some good insurance.

  2. If I were the Redskins, I would jump on this. Lutui can replace Mike Williams and the starting O-line would then be T. Williams-LT (barring that he is not a trainwreck), Dockery-LG, Rabach-C, Lutui-RG, and Hicks-RT. Much better than last year’s debacle; or as Deion would say, shabacle.

  3. i hope the Cardinals are dumb enough to release Deuce Lutui and if he gets released i hope he get signed by Washington, he would play left or right guard, possibly right and the Redskins line will then look instantly better. As for the guy who said Winston Justice is a bust, tell that to Eagles fans, i think they disagree (since he’s a good right tackle)

  4. You can continue to edit post production, but you should at least own up to it as opposed to acting like it never happened by deleting all the comments that point out your mistakes. Same thing happened last week. At least make an editors note.

  5. Hopefully, for the Cards, Faneca gets injured in the pre-season and is lost for the year. Because I can’t see Ken W. being happy with his level of play, especially at that price.

  6. Can you all ready? It says very clearly that it likely won’t happen. Lutui is a good guard, and the cardinals are smart enough to keep him. Hell, despite what PFT has said, Faneca is not the starter at all yet. I’m sure Whiz will hold a competition for the spot.
