Nike stands by Roethlisberger

It’s going to take more than sexual assault allegations originating from a nightclub’s bathroom and an NFL suspension for Nike to drop Ben Roethlisberger as an endorser.

The shoe company confirmed last week that Roethlisberger remains part of their “roster of athletes,” according to the New York Times.  Roethlisberger has previously been used to sell the company’s unfortunately named
“Marauder” cleats.

No matter what you think happened in Milledgeville, we’re a little surprised the shoe company still chooses to be associated with Roethlisberger.  Even in the best of times, Roethlisberger is no Tiger Woods when it comes to selling product.  Why bother?

  1. Nike demonstrates, yet again, that the term “corporate ethics” is intended as a punchline.

  2. they dont care about their image, they have sweatshops all over asia, what the **** do they care about what the d-bags they sponsor do with their wieners, nike cares about their image less than beef jerky companies…

  3. Maybe because they realize that athletes aren’t necessarily choirboys … especially ones who have been railroaded by a politically correct media. That’s their story and they’re stickin’ to it which is their right. The consumer will decide with their feet, as it should be in a free country.

  4. They stood by Tiger, they’ll stand by Big Ben.
Nike supports cheaters, rapists, moving business outside of it’s home country and cheap foreign near slave labour.
This my people, is what Capitalism is all about.

  5. They are the same people that stood by Vick.
It is time to boycott immoral scumbag corporations.
There are plenty of good moral corporations that are glad to have your business and not insult your dignity.

  6. unless you’re convicted of murder 1, with indisputable video evidence, a positive DNA match, left your drivers license at the scene, left your fingerprints on the murder weapon, left your semen on the couch, had your grandmother identify and testify against you at the trial, and agreed to sign a full confession admitting to every aspect of your crime, Nike will not drop you as an endorser of their products.
and i think i’m OK with that.

  7. Nike would keep Osama Bin Laden on that roster if he score 23 points a game or throw for 400 yards.

  8. “I was jacked leaving that room,” Tebow said. “I didn’t even want to visit another room. It was not enough time. We were excited, we were enthusiastic. There was passion. It was just intense, and it was ball, and it was juice. The juice level in that room was high, and it was awesome.”
I wonder if Nike has ball n juice bags……

  9. they stood by tiger woods……but, he wasn’t accused of sexaul assult twice! let’s see how much of rapistberger’s products sit on the shelves! tiger’s products are still selling, we will see about lil ben’s…………

  10. Nike like their athletes in full douchebaggery mode…Who knows maybe they are starting a new condom line, the swoosh line of condoms…Sold in bar bathrooms everywhere….If anything it will keep the miscreants of Pittsburgh from procreating……

  11. As consumers, we DON’T have to stand by Nike if they support a rapist. Nike will not get another dime of mine as long as that f**k is endorsing their product.

  12. I wonder what it would take for Nike to sever ties?
Obviously drug and alcohol indulgence, cheating on your spouse, supplying alcohol to minors is all fair game.
Hmmm… Ray Lewis never got a Nike deal, did he? Murder. The answer to my question? Murder. EVERYTHING ELSE is fair game. Obviously.

  13. Why do you bother writing this bullshit, Greggie? You’re a yellow hack, that is why you do what you do!

  14. Nike probably thinks that, as long as the headlines and accusations are in the rear view mirror, Rapistberger is bankable again.
Basically, they’re not gonna drop him now because peoples’ memories are short. Apparently, if you’re rich and famous and you have “fans”, you can still rake in the cash whether you’re a psychotic dog murderer, or you stab people in a Georgia parking lot and get your friends to take the rap, or you sexually molest girls in bars while being shielded by your bodyguards.
And don’t worry, folks. All the Steelers need to do is win 3 or 4 of their first 5 games, and all the yinzers who claim they don’t want Rapenstein back will suddenly be smitten with him again- even though Dixon or Batch or that old fat guy (Leftwich)- will be playing QB.

  15. I’m not sure how the contracts are structured, but I imagine that Nike would just mothball the guy until things blow over. There is no need to come out with a definitive severing of ties.
If you go out on a date and have a “myehhh..” feeling about the person, you don’t have to dis them forever on the spot. You just say, “Thanks, we should do this again, I’ll call you when I’m free….blah, blah…”. If they make a big issue about dumping Ben they come out as front runners and bandwagoneers.

  16. I have heard the same thing. My source tells me Nike is coming out with a new shoe called “The Perv” The adds will have Ben running around in the new shoes with his pants around his ankles yelling, “you can do what you want with it” As the voice in the background says, the shoe’s for the ones that want to get away, the perv by Nike.

  17. Nike would stand by Hitler if he were a client so it’s no surprise – that company has no values at all. They’re the Goldman Sachs of footwear.

  18. Thanks for reminding me, now I will boycott all Nike gear until they terminate Rapesagirl’s contract.
Say what you want about Tiger, at least he had the girl’s permission first.

  19. Like the employee that has an age above 6 will have anything to say about this.
    Great shoes though.

  20. Serious question.
    Is Rothlesberger a homosexual?
Lots of times those homos try to hide their true feelings by playing man games all the while looking forward to getting behind center and showers after the game.
    Anyone heard any rumors?
It might explain Nike. They are in Portland, up their in the liberal northwest where the queers rule.

  21. They support tigers hooker girlfriends
and now they support rapestberger. Why do I buy Nike products?

  22. So they don’t condone cheating on your wife, but you are allowed to rape underage girls in the bathroom while a cop blocks any attempt to stop the rape. I see.

  23. I’m going to run out and buy a truckload of Nike merchandise. It’s nice in this day and age to see a company with some integrity and enough backbone to stand behind an innocent man who was never arrested, charged, or convicted of ANYTHING!!!
It’s just too bad that in this internet age Ben can’t sue all of you nameless, faceless morons that call him a rapist. Then again, what would he even sue you for? The spank magazines you keep in your mama’s basement or the $3.75 in your bank accounts??

  24. Nike stood behind an African American who cheated on his wife with porn actress and white women, not being a father figuer to his 2 kids and the media treats him like a God on the golf course, however a white SINLGE MAN screws a DTF college slut in the bathroom and they would not? Come on media do not be afraid of TIGER WOODS and expose this fake as he is!!! BEN IS INNOCENT!!!

  25. Eminem’s song lyrics include, “I’d rather turn this club into a bar room brawl. Get as rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall.”

  26. boy, there are just some real idiots here. i mean, read these comments and see if any clear thinking person could be hopeful of the combined intellect of this country? the commentors on ptf lower the iq of america by at least 80% all by themselves. it used to be really cool to come here and get rumor news as well as differing intelligent perspectives from different fans and friendly banter, but florio has allowed this site to evolve into a cesspool. so sad. nbc must be so proud it has another “trainwreck” on it’s resume.
just keep the stupidity and slime coming. i’m sure for some, it makes you feel much better about yourselves. others just read a shake our heads.
    .

  27. I don’t need football cleats, but I will go out tomorrow and buy some Marauders to play softball in. I think that Nike shows a lot of class and guts, sticking by a man who was wrongfully accused and targeted for a quick money grab. It’s so easy to dump someone that has been thrust into a controversial situation, instead of sticking by them. Kudos to Nike. It’s so easy to come onto a message board and join in with the hundreds that call this man a rapist, just to be part of the fun. You all have no guts.

Should send ’em all back to Africa huh funi?
Are all Steelers’ fans racists or are you unique?

  29. So will Ben’s voice be in the background whispering “It’s O.K.” when the put Just Do It on the screen?

  30. “Nike stands by Roethlisberger”
Umm maybe because he HASN’T DONE ANYTHING WRONG. While you’re at it Florio you should report that EA Sports hasn’t dropped Drew Brees, Under Armour hasn’t dropped Vernon Davis, and GQ hasn’t dropped Mark Sanchez…
P.S. Good game Caps, LETS GO PENS!!

  31. SouthFlaSteel……I hear ya…lord knows steeler fans dont pile on when it is someone else….

  32. The real story here is that Nike is coming out with 2 new riding boot styles. The Big Ben boots come with spurs for those wild ones that try to run away, while the Tiger Woods boots are specialized for those who prefer to go bareback.
    Keep it classy Nike!

  33. @CanadianVikingfan
    hahaha your comment was hilarious!!!
Big Ben is a class A douchebag did you see that hair cut he had when he did his interview.. even his teammates hate him

  34. Silverback, I should sue you for the 15 seconds it took to read that ridiculous post…..I’d like those back, please.

  35. He has 2 Super Bowls and will be looked at by MILLIONS when he comes back
What is hard to understand about why he is being kept?

  36. @southFLAsteel, this is a great site. This is Sports not life and death. You and your kind are a big reason the country is in such sad shape. You try and shove what you feel is right or wrong down the rest of the publics throats. So why not get off your high Horse, we are not talking Brain Surgery here.

  37. Bravesfan4life88 says: Queue all the comments about not buying Nike now, and its all crap.
Different kind of ‘cue’ in this instance. And just for the record ‘cue the _____’ comments are getting about as old as ‘not news florio’ , ‘epic fail’, etc. Get some originality, people.
    And Nike blows.

  38. Tiger got ass..Cause, well…Hes…Tiger Woods…..PigBen got ass cause he took his adornement from the “deliverence” crowd a bit too far….You just keep winnin ben, and we donts care whatchya do…..

@K-Dizzle……for real dude?No guts?……So, cause you are going to go out tomorrow and buy a pair of whatever?…….This means you hace guts?…..Are you mentally challenged 24/7 or just when online……How does buying any product prove anything?……..Go buy the cleats, i’m sure it will make a world of difference……LOL……What goes thru people’s minds…….No kidding

  39. Here I thought Florio was an asshole, now you have rosenthal chiming in. Thanks guys for maintaing our jack offs of the week.
    Bitches keep hating……
    Keep you’re fodder coming in.
GO STEELERS and f the rest of youins.

  40. Nike’s new shoe is called “Escape”. It leaves no footprints and absorbs no DNA, it will be endorsed by 85% of the African American athletes in America and a few white men like Ben Rothlesberger. It will be bought or stolen by 65% of the African American men in America and a high percentage of people in Miami, Chicago and Washington DC……..Coming soon to a mall near you!

  41. southFLAsteel….applauding …..
I guess this friggin idiot lawyer Florio gets paid for every post he gets..as he knows how to get the ire up of idiot Ravens and Bengals fans..
Did Ben supply those ignorant sluts with booze or was it the bar??
I guess its up to the patrons to check ID’s…huh?
Im sure the idiot Cleveland fan that posted above didnt throw away any of his shoes….sheesh
Cleveland fans are as bad as those enablers in Baltimore…propping up a murderer as the hero of their franchise

  42. I’m not sure while all the Pittsburgh fans are so upset by those who call Ben a rapist.
    It’s simply a descriptive term.
You see, because a guy delivers my mail, I call him a mailman.
If someone cooks me dinner I call him a cook.
If someone does gymnastics, I call him a gymnast.
And if someone forces underage girls to have sex against their will – rapes them – then I call them a rapist.
    Does that help?

  43. I have no opinion on whether roethlisberger is guilty or not, I’ll leave that to the legal system.
However, Nike as a corporation is totally devoid of any ethics, so this like many other decisions they’ve made is not surprising.
I purchase their products as a last resort, or preferably not at all.

  44. they stand by him because he did nothing. Did a douchebag say hes throwing his shoes out yet?
brownsfn…your family couldn’t afford Nikes anyways.
    HERE WE GO STEELERS

  45. I bet Ben’s Nike’s kept his feet from slipping on the floor when he donkey punched that girl.
    Huzzah!

  46. It’s amazing how many idiots on this site scream “rapist” when there’s nothing but unsubstantiated, contradictory allegations. I hope none of you people ever get picked for jury duty (or anything else that requires critical thinking.)

  47. I have to wonder?
How does Carolyn Davidson, the young graphic design student who designed the Nike Swoosh while a student at Portland State University feel about her logo representing an athlete who is accused of abusing a young female university student.
How does Carolyn Davidson feel about her logo design representing Ben and Tiger?

To Modell’s pimp…BR is just like any other male out there. He puts his pants on one leg at a time. The difference between you and him is that once his are on, he wins SB. You win runner-up at the cornholer’s ball.

  55. @ artmodellspimp
Man it is almost like Ben raped you, instead of no one at all as it appears to be the case. If that is the case you should definitely tell florio or rosenthal and I am sure they will print a story about it.

  56. “Id say its worse to rape someone then to kill a bunch of dogs, just my opinion.”
We would all agree with you. The only difference is, Mikey was CONVICTED and we were all able to see physical evidence of dog killing and more lovely, torture. However, in case you missed the ending, the other guy was not CHARGED with a crime.
I’d say it’s worse to be a convicted felon than to not be charged with a crime, just MY opinion.

And BTW I think a lot of people really need to get a life, and understand that nothing you say here means squat. Bottom line is Ben made a mistake, there was enough doubt to not file charges, he will be serving his punishment, he will be back playing football if he keeps his nose clean and life will go on. I suggest most of you try to do the same with your life. Your posts on every story about Ben and all the warmed over/left over nicknames for Ben and Steelers won’t mean a thing in the grand scheme of life. Lot’s of time being wasted. And since they are not using them, severing ties would be pointless grandstanding for a company that (a) doesn’t need an increase in market share, (b) has a strong brand already, (c) won;t be hurt by the small PR hit.
After all, when Ben comes back he’ll suit up in a Steeler uniform with a Nike logo on it. And shoes with Nike logos on them. It’s unavoidable.

Are you kidding me? You consider this ‘insignificant’? Ask you mother, sister, wife/girlfriend how insignificant it is to be raped.
No means no, and “she was drunk” is not a defence. Period.

  68. @NFLchick …
It’s not insignificant to be raped. But it’s annoying to keep hearing the stupid and ignorant ranting about nonexistent rapes. The DA said Roethlisberger NEVER admitted sex with that woman. So that means he never gave a “she was drunk” defense. Based on the results of the pelvic exam, there was no vaginal intercourse. That may be why she initially told both police and doctors NO when asked if she’d been raped or had sex. You’re right: No means no.
The story about the bodyguard barring the door has been disputed by multiple witnesses. She was out of sight only 10 minutes. There’s no forensic evidence of rape. Multiple witnesses said the woman followed Ben from bar to bar and engaged in mutual sexual conduct with him all evening. She changed her story repeatedly. The DA said even with her testimony, he didn’t have enough evidence to get probable cause for an arrest, let alone enough to obtain a conviction.
It’s “insignificant” because there was no rape, which you’d know if you’d researched instead of following the crowd. Period.

  69. Ya Deb just keep making excuses. I have a question for you. What other athlete has been accused of rape twice in the last year? No one but Ben. Wow what bad luck on his part huh?
    Just keep making up excuses.
If your qb wasn’t a sexual predator this wouldn’t be an issue huh?

  70. @badthings …
Making up excuses is when you say “Ben raped her because …” I’m saying the crimes never happened. I also said Ben has set himself up for this by being a reckless egomaniacal jackass … hope no one ever “makes excuses” for me like that. Don’t know what other athletes have been accused twice. Don’t care. Only care about the evidence in these cases.
In the first, the court has copies of the woman’s text messages two days after the “rape” that she can’t wait to see Ben again and if things don’t work out with her boyfriend she’s going after Ben. In the second, the pelvic exam showed there was no intercourse. The accuser was dragged to the cops by a woman Ben threw out of the party. Same woman who made the rape charge while the accuser denied it. Same woman who claimed the bodyguard blocked her from the door. Same woman who took the accuser to the cops the next day when she changed her story.
If you had one-third a brain and this didn’t involve a team you hate, this wouldn’t be an issue, huh?

Good point NFLchick. Deb could you please answer her question?

  74. Nike could care less. Ben hasn’t been convicted of anything. Just accusations from skeeze who stand to make money by virtue of accusations alone. Most celebs will pay just to make the issue go away.
I hope Ben has finally learned his lesson to stop hanging out with skeeze.

  75. Ben makes sure he rapes each cleat before he ties his shoelaces.
What a dildo that guy is.

  76. @badthings and other simple-minded people who can count but can’t read case files …
He’s not by a long shot the only professional athlete player accused of sexual assault. Nor has he been accused three times. He certainly brought the second accusation as well as the other speculation on himself by being a reckless jackass throwing frat parties in Satan shirts when he should have been keeping a low profile. When you do stupid things, you have to pay the consequences. Stupid does not equal rapist. Since you don’t seem willing or intellectually capable of reading the documentation for yourselves, here you go:
The Nevada case is bizarre and complicated. But I’ll whittle it down to a couple of bare facts. Ben had a one-night stand with an older hotel employee in 2007. A year later, she ran up significant medical bills after a breakdown following a convoluted siutation involving her ex-lover’s wife. She filed a $3 million lawsuit against Ben claiming rape. The police said there’s no evidence any crime occurred. Among the documentation in the case are her own text messages sent an hour after the “rape” in which she was talking baby talk with her “boyfriend.” They also have text messages from her sent two days later in which she says she’s looking foward to seeing Ben at the VIP dinner and thinks her boyfriend looks like Ben. She says if things don’t work out with her boyfriend, she’s going after Ben.
Now, badthings, I know you’re not too bright. But even you have to admit those texts aren’t the kinds of things women say about their rapists.
In Georgia, the DA said the accuser chased Ben all over town trying to get his attention. He said the accuser and Ben were carrying on with each other. The DA also said another sorority sister pissed Ben off. Apparently she started ragging on him about the woman in Nevada. So Ben threw her out of the party. That same sorority sister and a friend then tried to get back into the party, but Officer Barravecchio kept them out.
THEY are the ones who dragged the girl to the cops and told them she’d been raped. She said she had not. THEY are the ones who told police Barravecchio guarded the bathroom and wouldn’t let them in. Many other witnesses said that’s not true. THEY are the ones who went to the cops with the girl the next day when she changed her story and said she had been raped. The medical exam said otherwise.
ALL of this is in the case files.
Now it’s big news in Milledgeville. So another local girl goes to the police and says, “Hey, I was at a party at Ben’s, and he dropped his pants and said, ‘Do with me as you will!'” She was sooo traumatized, she went back to his house again the next week. He got drunk and tried to put his hand up her skirt. OH MY GOSH SHE WAS ASSAULTED!!! But she decided not to press charges. How magnanimous. A drunk guy at a party tries to stick his hand up a girl’s skirt. Wow, that’s never happened before.
Now there’s a media feeding frenzy. A lawyer goes on a radio show and says, “Hey, I was investigating Ben for something just like that Milledgeville thing.” No client name. No details. No charges filed. No formal accusation. Nothing. Just a lawyer playing Big Man on the Radio. Grabbing his 15 minutes. No doubt he got a phone call from Ben’s attorneys telling him to put up or shut up. Before the day was over, he fell all over himself RETRACTING EVERY SINGLE WORD.
Boys and girls, that is not a third accusation.
Now you little kids can throw this homer crap at me all you want. But I’m a grownup, a rape survivor, the sister of a criminal defense attorney, and someone who takes this stuff seriously. I’m following the evidence and you’re carrying on like kindergartners pissed off because you didn’t get your way. You wanted the rival QB to get charged; he wasn’t. He wasn’t because there wasn’t any credible evidence against him. There wasn’t any credible evidence against him because he’s an idiot, not a rapist.
badthings … I’m not repeating this again so stop asking. Try a remedial reading course.

  77. No matter how many paragraphs you type or how many childish insults you throw at people, the facts are the same.
Your qb is the ONLY nfl player with three rape accusations, and this doesn’t seem to make a bit of difference to you because you will always be in Pittsburgh groupie denial mode.
    Deb,
There are things more important than your favorite football team winning. Your constant defending of that dirtbag is disgusting. Instead of writing pages and pages of denials you should try and get a life?

  78. @Deb
Sure spend a lot of time trying to justify your blind excuse making for the only pro football player – out of about 3,000 active – to be accused of rape twice in the last year.
But of course, it’s both women’s fault, they were both gold diggers, and it happens to all the football players – except of course, the other 2,999 active players.
    Keep trying.
