Report: Raiders plan to have Russell at minicamp Friday

Don’t celebrate yet, Raider Nation.

Al Davis’ favorite “false rumor monger” (Adam Schefter) reports that the Raiders plan to have Russell attend this weekend’s mandatory minicamp.  And compete.  (Yikes.)

This report directly conflicts with Schefter’s co-worker John Clayton, who said the Raiders were preparing to cut Russell.

I mentioned the story to Florio, who has a conspiracy theory that make sense.  Perhaps the Raiders don’t believe Russell wants to show, and could use his absence as a reason to go after his money.

Either way, it’s Russell’s move.  Looks like we have to hold off that all-time bust debate for now.

I don’t like the Raiders, but even I feel bad for the fans if they keep this slob. Just be done with it.

  2. jibfest says: Apr 28, 2010 4:47 PM

By far the biggest bust. He never even tried. Physically he has the biggest bust no question. He will be on Springer in five years when they have to cut the wall out going into his living room to gurny him to the hospital. I say he is dead/broke in five years.

  3. Doctor Doom says: Apr 28, 2010 4:48 PM

If he gets hurt, it may cost the Raiders a lot more than the 3 mill to cut him loose

  4. spdy3450 says: Apr 28, 2010 4:51 PM

Get rid of his lard ass! Btw, is it really worth debating who’s the bigger P.O.S.? Both Russell and Leaf single handedly destroyed the organizations they played for.

i am a diehard raider fan and this is getting rediculous. i was excited to see the trade for campbell and the safe, yet productive draft. i have been wanting them to cut russell for the past couple of years now and finally thought it would happen. now that good ol al davis is procrastinating…. i hope that this fat piece of trash russell drops a weight on his foot or something and gets injured and collects even more of als money…

  15. PittsburghSteelerz says: Apr 28, 2010 4:59 PM

They would have released him, but Al decided to keep him just to spite that false rumor monger Schefter.
Schefter just throws it against the wall and hopes something sticks.

  23. SportsDevil says: Apr 28, 2010 5:05 PM

That doesn’t mean we have to drop the “all-time bust debate.” Unless he shows up, knowing that he’s been a waste of money so far and has made up his mind to change, he’s still a bust.

  24. Dogsweat says: Apr 28, 2010 5:07 PM

Jamarcus Leaf will have a new home.
Maybe the Jags will sign him.

  25. MasterShake says: Apr 28, 2010 5:08 PM

Has anyone talked with Russell? What’s his thought process on this. (besides food etc..) He must know his time is limited not only in Oakland but possibly in the NFL and what is his reaction to this? I’m pretty sure Oakland may not want this to get out because if it’s negative, they can’t restructure his contract and release him or trade him and they are trying to limit their loss, but what’s going on in Russells head?
    What a shibacle.

  28. papertiger says: Apr 28, 2010 5:12 PM

    Sounds risky to me.

  33. r8rsfan says: Apr 28, 2010 5:17 PM

JR is going to be given a legitimate shot at starting. He will compete with Campbell, Grad, Boller and Frye. 2 of those will not make it. Love him, hate him, do what you want but Al is not going to give up on JR without having tried everything possible to make him successful and it looks like they will be giving him another shot this weekend. The better question is what condition JR shows up in, and what sort of effort he puts in. If he has anything at all going on between his ears he will come prepared – wouldn’t bet on that.

    ======================
Absolutely impossible. There is no way they let him come to mini-camp. If he shows up and gets hurt, they are on the hook for all of his money. No way even the Raiders are that stupid.
I mentioned the story to Florio, who has a conspiracy theory that make sense. Perhaps the Raiders don’t believe Russell wants to show, and could use his absence as a reason to go after his money.
    ========================
The more conceivable conspiracy theory is that Russell shows up and fakes an injury, forcing the Raiders to put him on injured reserve or reach and injury settlement with him. Again, no way the Raiders risk that.

  41. oh the usual says: Apr 28, 2010 5:32 PM

I am not really that surprised. Since Jason Campbell was signed, the first thing out of the mouths of the talking heads on BSPN was “what are they going to do with Jamarcus?” “I think that means he is finally going to get cut.” When one person makes a guess at ESPN about something, someone else who works there then uses that prediction as a source to say it is going to happen. Then another one of their writers corroborates, using the second ESPN worker as their source. Then it gets picked up on here. All because a trade was made, and some people speculated. We all know how the Raiders work. We all know they will keep their intentions secret. This all only stems from a trade, and just what people figured would happen. I still think they would/should cut Jamarcus, but I don’t think that it is being properly reported.

  42. SF Saints Fan says: Apr 28, 2010 5:33 PM

JaMarcus Russell should show up at the minicamp and throw every ball as hard as he can. Maybe he can tear something in his shoulder and get an injury settlement. Absent that, he can hurt a few receivers by breaking their fingers with all those well placed howitzer shots. Assuming he can hit wide open receivers in a minicamp. He might just miss them all and be in mid-season form already.
Seriously, the Raiders are crazy to bring this guy in and should cut him pronto. He will either get hurt on the practice field or get serious indigestion from eating all the free food.

  43. Nevisyakker says: Apr 28, 2010 5:39 PM

Maybe he is just smart enough to go through the first workout and then claim a mysterious back injury. CHACHING!

God thinking, BSPN. One of you have to be right.

  45. dcrespo24 says: Apr 28, 2010 5:40 PM

Doesn’t matter if he is cut this week. He will likely be prevented from engaging in any football related activities while they try to restructure his contract. If he will not restructure, then they will cut him. But technically they have until opening day to cut him without owing the balance of the 9 mill.
More importantly Campbell is and will be the Raiders’ starter this season.
Jamarcus cant beat out anyone on the roster for the starting QB position.

  46. Dasmol says: Apr 28, 2010 5:43 PM

The words “Mini” and “JaMarcus Russell” don’t belong in the same sentence, unless the words “donuts” or “burgers” appear between them.

  47. Leto_II says: Apr 28, 2010 5:50 PM

Russell will ‘compete’ for either starting offensive guard or starting left tackle. He can protect Campbell’s blind side.

  48. AbeFreshly says: Apr 28, 2010 5:51 PM

I read a recent article about Ryan Leaf. The thought of being “the worst draft pick ever” or being acknowledged on NFLN’s “Top 10 draft busts of ALL TIME” haunts him to this very day. Leaf mentioned how he would lay awake at night & hope “someone like Heath Shuler” would supplant him for the dubious distinction. He acknowledges his immaturity & lack of focus, & admits that he deserves the title. He even said “What If Indy picked me first? That’s the ONLY way I can imagine the situation being any worse”. JaMarmalade may think he made out like a $31M bandit, but I doubt he has any idea what awaits him. Anywhere on Earth where he may go, from this day forward, everyone will know that everything he owns is “stolen”. No matter what he owns, it will turn into a reminder of how he disgraced himself & his family.

  49. KoolKell says: Apr 28, 2010 5:52 PM

The Raiders have 6 (six) winning seasons in the last 20 years.
The General Manager, Al Davis is 29-83 over the last 7 years.
Yet all attention is focused on JaMarcus Russell?? A 2 year starter in a fatally dysfunctional Organization.????
If Al Davis were to be seen in a fur coat, perhaps he would get some of the attention he deserves.

Wrong again. There is no need to turn away from the “greatest bust” talk, the longer he’s around stirring up negative talk about the Raiders, the more Jamissdamarcus’ establishes his rare status.
I’d tell you to go get your shine box but I’m sure Florio’s got it now. I told him to go get it over one of his various blunders.

  55. Willy says: Apr 28, 2010 6:22 PM

Jabigass will be at “maxicamp…lol..” in maxipads for one reason only….to test the running backs conditioning by having them TRY to run all the way around him. Maybe thy’ll convert him to def tackle. All he has to do is lie down and that side of the defense is impenetrable because no one can get over him

  56. RaiderChile says: Apr 28, 2010 6:35 PM

  60. 1NationRaiderNation says: Apr 28, 2010 6:56 PM

like I said , not so fast. BSPN is full of crap, it’s that plain and simple. The best was BSPN saying that either the eagles or skins would sign J Russ if he got cut…..I find it ironic that every free agent, or every rumour they create always has the player landing on the east coast, mostly to the jets or pats….so bias it is pathetic….
Reality is it costs the raiders approx 3 million to keep him on….why not let him compete, with all of the other 1st ronds busts they have signed.

  61. Willy says: Apr 28, 2010 7:06 PM

did a little reesearch and a little math..(yes I had to take both shoes off) If Denver had paid Cutler based on the completion # and the td #(1098/85), they would have had to pay him a total of $279.8 mil($93+ mil per year). If the same were paid to Payton Manning (4232/366) then the colts would have paid him $1,155,200,000($128+ mil per year).Orton with the broncos (336/21), would have been paid $75.6 mil..

The poster who calls himself “KoolKell” but actually goes by Krappy has been posting on Jerry McDonald’s blog for years and years.
He’s an old, barely educated fool who is known for a few very important things:
    1) He’s an old, deranged racist
    2) He loves nothing more than repeatedly posting the Raiders won/loss record over the past 7 years.
    3) His wife has a bowl cut
    4) He once claimed that he is a “Blog Personality”
    5) He’s an accomplished plagiarist
    6) He craps his drawers 6 or 7 times a day.
Anyway, after years of ridicule, scorn, and constant humiliation, ol Krappy disappeared from Jerry’s blog and slimed his way over here.
Now that you’ve been briefed, please have fun with him, kick him around, put him in his place. We have for a long time and it’s been a true pleasure.

They have to pay him 3million no matter what so they might as well keep him this year.See if he can completely turn his work ethic and attitude around then trade his ass for a late round pick, and if he doesnt change his ways who cares let him go.but remember this he will get another chance Ryan Leaf got several!

  82. Grimmlock42 says: Apr 29, 2010 12:48 AM

If you’ve seen full metal jacket, Jamarcus will play the role as Gomer Pile. The raiders need to pull a blanket over him and pound him with a bar of soap wrapped in a towel and have the whole team take a swing at him. Gomer Pile never made a mistake again. It might just work for Jamarcus. A really good beatdown might just wake his ass up.

I get the vibe that Davis might well make this manpig the starter until he dies. Davis loves him. Sorry Raiders fans.
