On Friday, Willie Clark will receive his sentence for the murder of Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams.
The decision will be announced despite efforts by Clark’s lawyer to obtain a new trial, and to delay sentencing.
On Tuesday, the judge that presided over the trial rejected Clark’s motion for a new trial, a prerequisite to challenging the verdict on appeal. On Thursday, the Colorado Supreme Court rejected an attempt to delay sentencing pending appeal.
Clark killed Williams on New Year’s Eve 2006. The prosecution’s theory was based on the contention that Clark’s target was former Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall.
