"Disruptive" Santonio Holmes booted from a flight in Pittsburgh

Well, so much for Santonio Holmes’ new leaf.

Less than three weeks after being traded from Pittsburgh in the wake of a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, Holmes has been escorted off a plane for being a “disruptive passenger.”  NBC affiliate WPXI reports that the incident occurred on Thursday night, shortly after 9:00 p.m.

We know there are two sides to every story, but Holmes needs to find the line of what may get him in trouble and stay as far away from it as possible.  Otherwise, that four-game suspension is eventually going to be extended by 12, or more.

  1. Santonio can play (when he wants to)… but he’s proven to be a first class dumbass over the past few years.

  2. I was up at Pittsburgh’s airport on business a few weeks back..
Nice airport, but 20 minutes outside the city – and no real public transportation, save a 60$ cab ride..
    what a joke.

  3. Think someone may have been giving him a bunch of shit on the plane for being a turd and he freaked out?

  4. How is there no “new leaf” and “marijuana” reference? Florio needs to get his game together.

  5. You gotta be a major ass to get escorted off a plane. Maybe he had just woke up and figured it was a good place to wake and bake.

  6. You get on the plane.
You sit in the seat for the ticket you purchased.
(Flight attendants can read the ticket if you can’t)
You stow reasonably sized carry-on items.
    You buckle the lap belt.
You don’t interfere with the crew.
Some criminal types can’t even obey those simple rules.

  7. Looks like Pittsburgh may have gotten a 5th round draft choice for a player that will be suspended for the season.

  8. Turds will be turds. There are 4 NFL destinations for the A-holes: Cincinnatti, Dallas, NY Jets and Oakland.

  9. Another great pick up by the Jets. Retarded coach and players, not to mention the front office.

  10. I guess the ‘Gee, why would the Steelers trade him for only a fifth rounder?’ talk will die down now.

  11. That 5’th round pick was a steal for the Steelers. This guy, while talented, just will not get it.

  12. Oh c’mon!!! Stop with the Jets bashing already, its Friday! You guys are gonna be sorry when the Jets kick –s next season and every week you will hear it from me and every other Jets fan tired of seeing this crap.

  13. Santonio probably smoked his “new leaf” before he boarded the plane and that’s what caused all the trouble.

  14. This doesnt surpise me. Once a steeler always a steeler and none of them dont even know what class means

  15. i would assume some other passengers were talking shit and he was standing up for himself like everyone should do.

  16. Yep, there are two sides (nice grammar) to every story, however, as a betting man, I’m willing to wager it was his fault…

  17. HAHAHAHAHAHAAH, you’re welcome Jets fans! There’s a reason why the Steelers booted his ass and it looks like his downward spiral is in full motion..

  18. was he trying to spark up a blunt in the lavatory?
or did he throw his drink in the “flying waitresses” face?

  19. They said Holmes wasn’t arrested but was escorted off the plane for what investigators call being a “disruptive passenger.”
Since he wasn’t arrested, and it was in Pittsburgh, it must have “only” been something like sexual assault in the bathroom…

  20. Steelers get Jets 5th round pick, everyoen said what a horrib;e deal. Now this bum could be suspended longer and is a free ageant next season! Nice move Fat ass REX and enjoy a 8-8 season!

  21. One of the Pittsburgh stations is reporting that he was removed temporarily for refusing to turn off his iPod. Once off the plane, he had a discussion with the airline officials and was allowed to re-board.

  22. As a Steeler fan in Jets Country, I have to say that this is the funniest thing I’ve heard in weeks.
All I’ve been hearing is what a model citizen Sexy Rexy is going to make out of old Bluntonio, that the Steelers overreacted in dumping such a great talent and that it’s Lombardi-Ho! for Gang Green Via Sanchonio Air, thanks for flying.
Say what you will about the way the Steelers handled Ben and J. Harrison’s admittedly more serious scenarios, but no criminal charges were ever brought against either and Bluntonio was in a different league because he just didn’t care. His teammates knew he couldn’t be counted on to stay off the ganja, so how could they know from week-to-week if he was even going to be there?
Don’t forget, this guy’s first run-in after he got to Pittsburgh was being pulled over and having pot smoke billow out, Cheech and Chong style, when he opened the window. In the middle of Downtown. In broad freaking daylight.
Now, busting up on a plane. What kind of idiot does something like that?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Bluntonio Holmes.
    Have fun, Jets fans!

  23. you can’t say BOMB on an airplane … even though he really was talking about his new BONG…lol

  24. Here’s how it went down:
‘Sir, I don’t know how you got that joint past airport security, or on the plane even, but you can’t smoke it on the flight. Please put it out or we will have to remove you.’
‘F–k you, I had a good game once, that luckily just happened to be the super bowl.’
‘Sir, I will motion for the air marshall and he WILL escort you off, even if you ARE mentally retarded. We can’t let you endanger the other passengers.’
‘F–k you, bitch. I OWN this coach section!’
ding, smack, clink [sound of Holmes being dragged off plane]

  25. The next thing i wanna read is he is getting sent back to Pitt. through a loophole in the trade. That would be poetic. This is turning into a daytime soap.

  26. Airperuvian,
“None of them don’t know what class means”
So you are saying that all of the Steelers know what class means? I’m confused.

  27. Celebrities don’t get escorted off a plane unless they are really out of control. And if someone was taunting or attacking him I would wager they would get escorted off first, ar at the same time. Money talks.

  28. “You guys are gonna be sorry when the Jets kick –s next season and every week you will hear it from me and every other Jets fan tired of seeing this crap.”
    @njghost91
You guys have one semi-decent year for first time in many years, back into the playoffs by not 1 but 2 teams lying down for you, and suddenly Jets fans think you rule the league.
Enjoy you 8-8 season I doubt this year anyone is going to lie down and let you back into the playoffs again.

  29. LOL the Jets are over hyped and over-rated. They shouldn’t have made the playoffs last year. I even remember the coaches Christmas list being please don’t play Peyton, Wayne, Clark blah blah. Now the fans act like they have some great team. Stupid moves by a stupid team. People better jump ship from that bandwagon before the season.

    ___________
Oh. Well, I think we’ve all been in a situation where we had to choose between listening to our ipod and not being thrown off a plane. Can’t fault him for that.

  31. Should have taken a train or the bus.
If you want real “disruptive behavior” that is simply what the airlines do to your wallet if you fly these days.
Next up: “There will now be a $5.00 surcharge for the filtered air you are breathing inside the aircraft.”
Why not? Lord knows they charge you for just about everything else, and then delay your flight or have you waiting inside a parked plane for an eternity before finally lifting off of the ground.
My personal longest wait inside an airplane waiting to take off: 3½ hours. Missed the connection later, too.

  32. Seems like everyone out of that Steeler organization is a real POS. Plaxico, Rapelisberger, Holmes, Porter, not to mention the steroid and drug abusers out of the 70’s. This is the most disruptive organization in the NFL. Then you have happy ass Hines Ward with cheep shots, and a coach that can’t stop blinking when he speaks. The only reason why they say “steeler Nation” travels so well is because none of them live in that s-hole. 6 super bowls, but completely classless organization.

  33. Every one is blaming the “new leaf” when was the last time any of you smoked up and got out of controll…. the only that I see you can blame it on the “new leaf” is if the plane ran out of munchies!!
Just another dumbass!!! but hey at least he isn’t a rapist like big ben!!

  34. I guess the only thing that would make this “funnier” is if he had a birthmark on his face.
    Poor Bluntonio.

  35. The NFL has really become the league of outlaws. It will soon go the way of pro wrestling and Roller Derby. Oh wait, it already is the same.

  36. you can take the boy out of Posu but you cant take the Posu out of the boy! Posu is thug life university!

Well, genius, if “none of them dont even know”, that means they all know. Double negative is a positive.
    Does that “surpise” you?
    GO STEELERS!

  38. Santonio was effectively traded for Bryant McFadden and the pick used to pick Dwyer out of GA Tech (the Jets 5th rounder went to Arizona).
    Advantage Pittsburgh.

  39. This Pukesburgh fans is why you only got a 5th round pick for this turd. See the light yet?

  40. @njghost91……Poor little Jets fan…What a whine ass. You idiots paid for that shit sandwich Smoktonio…..Quite crying like a little bitch and eat it. LMFAO!!!

  41. @Diehardskinsfan
Yeah, your franchise is really the peak of class. As I recall, your team was the last to desegregate. We will take our 6 Super Bowls, you enjoy Albert Haynesworth’s contract.

  42. Chiefs2010…..
    Thanks for the airport critique.
Was your coffee too warm as well?
    Diehardskinsfan….
And you actually admit to being a Skins fan….too funny. The most dysfucntional organization in sports. Way to throw a stone when you live in a glass house. C’mon dummy…bring up the ’92 SB win over Buffalo. Your team hasn’t even been in the playoffs for three years.
I am calling 911 to pick up your lifeless body. I own you.

  43. I am hearing reports that this involved an IPOD. Now that is so sad that this guy can be so stubborn and selfish that he thinks he can do anything. I feel sad for any kid that ever bought his jersey or routed for this clown. It really bothers me that these “celeberties” think that they are above the law. “Rules are great … just not for me”.

  48. As someone who travels for business regularly (over 5ok miles per year), I can tell you that it takes an awful lot to get thrown off an airplane. I put up with loud obnoxious drunks, people getting out of their seats when the plane was about to take off, you name it, and people are only removed after being repeatedly warned.
How incredibly stupid do you have to be to get thrown off an airplane for refusing multiple requests to turn off your IPod (as espn.com is reporting)? Especially when you are a famous athlete already facing suspension?

  49. Santonio was effectively traded for Bryant McFadden and the pick used to pick Dwyer out of GA Tech (the Jets 5th rounder went to Arizona).

Yeah that trade doesn’t look so bad at this point.

    ==================
That makes it even more ridiculous. How border line retarded do you have to be to make scene over an IPod when you know it will wind up all over the news and you are already in trouble with the league?
Way to keep those priorities straight, dumbass.

  51. The jets offseason was a joke they picked up a bunch of has beens…
    Playoffs…no way !
They were allowed in the playoffs last year by indianapolis and cincinnati,That wont happen again anytime soon.
    Keep dreaming jets fans…LOL !

  54. @Chiefs2010: It is a nice airport, but you’re wrong, there IS public transportation. $2.60 to ride the bus up there. Free for students, which was great when I went to Pitt as an out-of-stater.

  55. Also, where’s the Seinfeld reference, Florio? Obviously the pilot was not comfortable with him being on the plane.

  56. CincyAllDaWay …………..Hey dipshit we didnt pay but a 5th rnd pick.no loss there,. your name says it all ,u have no room to talk after we Rolled ur asses up twice last season, win a playoff game this by-centennial before you talk about the Jets.

    ——————————–
Perhaps now people outside the ‘burgh will understand why the Jets acknowledged the “risk” in trading a 5th Rounder for (S)Tone(d).
BTW, good luck with that trade Jets. Our side of the deal worked out just fine.

  60. @ronmexico: “Santonio was effectively traded for Bryant McFadden and the pick used to pick Dwyer out of GA Tech (the Jets 5th rounder went to Arizona).

You sir, are correct. Thank you for that post, it almost makes “DieHardSkinsFan’s” trolling post invisible.. Speaking of that, maybe learn how to spell if you’re going to talk trash on another team, dumbass. What’s a “cheep” shot? Go back to revelling in your 20 year old Super Bowl win and the last time you even made the playoffs in 07 and let the grownups talk.

  61. The real story with this as posted by another NBC article:
“Authorities at Pittsburgh International Airport filed an incident report after wide receiver Santonio Holmes failed to follow flight regulations by not turning off his iPod as the plane he was on was landing…The report was filed with the Allegheny County Police Department after Holmes’ flight landed. Holmes got off the plane and police officers reminded him of complying with flight regulations, but the wide receiver was not charged.”
Yea, I don’t see what the problem is other than an upset steelers fan base trying to take shots at a former player who will be catching touchdowns in the superbowl for another team this year…way to spin it florio..acting like you didn’t know the cause of the “disruptive behavior” when the company who owns you publishes an article with all the details…all this bitterness towards the jets will only make victory this year and years to come that much better

  62. Gotta love how Steelers are getting the negative press these days. And love how Raiders are getting possitive press. And for the uniformed poster, Oakland is no longer a destination for your malcontents. Get over it.

  63. Does he now get added to a “no-fly” list or is it one set of rules for us and one set for he and Robble-burger…

  64. @stugacz, thisclasssucks, HamBurghlar, and bigstorm
    Hey idiots-
Last I saw it you went 26 years before winning another super bowl. The four you won in the 70’s and 80 I believe and tell me if I am wrong, but I believe that the teams were KNOWN, yes KNOWN steroid abusers and drug addicts. Maybe the biggest cheats the game has ever seen. Yes, the Skins are and have been bottom feeders for some time, but at least we aren’t rapers, drug addicts, low life classless pieces of sh*t. Why don’t you all read the article I posted?
“Fresh off their first Super Bowl victory in 26 years, the Steelers have experienced the emotional gamut. The franchise has lost 18 former players — age 35 to 58 — since 2000, including seven in the last 16 months.”
Talk sh*t on that. It is all fact. The players that play for you all past and present are pieces of sh*t and most of the fans are as well. Congrats on your 6 once again, but you are by far the least classy organization in the NFL. Most of you who post on here probably don’t even live in sh*tsburgh but claim the team because your relatives lived there or some BS. I wait until you a-holes go another 26 years without a super bowl win. LOSERS.

  65. I flew to San Fran 2 weeks ago and never had to take my earbuds out during the entire flight. I fly at least once a month and have never been hassled about my Ipod (free clue: the mute control is your friend). Was Holmes wearing a pair of huge can-type headphones or something where it was obvious? Or was he being a pretentious dipwad ass as usual and the flight crew used the pretext of the Ipod as an extra excuse/lagniappe to boot his ass off the plane?

    ____________
Wa? The airport filed an incident report….the police were contacted…they met him at the gate after the flight…..and you don’t see how that’s a big deal? I’d say tack at least another 2 games onto the end of the 4.
Funny thing is, Pittsburgh actually lost one of the better human beings on their team. As far as I’m aware, he hasn’t raped anyone.

“Yes, the Skins are and have been bottom feeders for some time, but at least we aren’t rapers, drug addicts, low life classless pieces of sh*t. Why don’t you all read the article I posted?”
Why don’t you have a look at this:
    http://www.signonsandiego.com/nfl/arrests-database/
Washington has just as many people arrested as everyone else, but the difference between the Steelers and the Skins is that we don’t have any “low life pieces of sh*t” RUNNING the team, as well as in the stands and on the field, unlike yourselves. Pipe down big boy, if I wanted to hear an asshole talk, I’d fart.

  69. Sooooooooo Mr. Goodell, would you call this behavior unbecoming an NFL Player. Surrrrrrrrrreeee he was not arrested, but hey, he still did something wrong and if is reflecting bad on the rest of the NFL posse. Hmmmm, let’s see. He is currently suspended for 4 games and it was only last month that he was suspended. But yet, he still “does not get it” (thanks Florio), and has made the NFL look like fools once again. Will Santonio be as severely suspended as Ben? Less, more? Back to you Roger.

  70. Sooooooooo Mr. Goodell, would you call this behavior unbecoming an NFL Player. 71. Wow your a terrible writer. You stick up for this guy since hes been in the NFL. Now hes been traded from the Steelers and hes trash.
Who knows maybe the scumbag Steelers were messing with him on the plane and they decided to remove him because his presence was disruptive. Your a jackass.

  72. @HamBurghlar
AKA internet tough guy. Please tell me which number is greater 11 or 16? The squeelers have had 16 arrests since 2001, and DC has had 11. I will allow you to do the math, but saying that every team has the same amount not only makes you look dumb, but also not very thorough. After all it was you who pointed that site out you moron. I fail to understand how Dan Snyder is a low life as well. Maybe a bad manager of an NFL franchise to date, but far from a low life. If you could justify that comment I would appreciate it. The site also only has it since 2000. Like I stated previously your degenerate football team has been classless since the 70’s. As far as the fans in DC being low lifes I would disagree with that as well. Just about everyone I have spoken to says that sh*itsburgh fans are the worst and I would have to agree. Nice name by the way. Time to graduate from the happy meal.

  73. diehardskinsfan….aka bigstorm’s bitch
The fact that you spout arrest facts in a football blog is completely fu%ked in its own right. When you are on the gay chat lines do you talk about gerbil care….I don’t think so. Gerbil killer.
The 70’s….what are you…..fuc%king nuts? Are you 12 years old and you read this in one of your dad’s beat mags?
Alzado, Shell, and practically every lineman in the 70s and 80s did steroids. It killed Alzado and a number of others. North Dallas Forty (a book and a movie was practically based on this you pinhead).
The only thing that exceeds your stupidity is my dominance of you. I am putting you on a corner and pimping you out for muffins and coffee because, lets face it, that is all you will fetch.
Maybe you should shut up while you still have a couple of teeth left in your head.

  74. Nice reporting PFT. Maybe you should change the name of your site to “We just make up headlines regardless of the facts”.
