Another guilty plea for Vincent Jackson

NFL_jackson2.jpgChargers receiver Vincent Jackson has two DUIs on his record.  He added to his rap sheet on Friday with something far less troubling.

According to Brent Schrotenboer of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Jackson pleaded guilty to knowingly driving with a suspended license.

Jackson was apprehended while driving to the Chargers’ playoff loss to the Jets.  (He caught seven passes for 111 yards during his visit to Revis Island; maybe getting handcuffed should be added to Jackson’s pregame ritual.)  Jackson was fined less than $1,000 and sentenced to 80 hours of community service.  “Vince just wants to get ready to play football this season, and he
doesn’t want to have a lot of this legal stuff hanging over his head,”
his attorney, Cole Casey, said.

His second DUI conviction resulted in four days of roadside trash pickup.  “He picked up trash on the freeways and did every day of it, every
single day of it without a peep,” Casey said.

Jackson likely will be hearing a peep or two from the league office.  Though the most recent guilty plea likely won’t result in punishment, the NFL is still considering the appropriate punishment for DUI No. 2.

    If he doesn’t want to have “a lot of this legal stuff hanging over his head”, he might consider giving up criminal behavior.

    Floria, (rhymes with Gloria), now your just editorializing. When you write, “Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson has two DUIs on his record. He added to his rap sheet on Friday with somethingfar less troubling. How is this decision
    The guy gets not one but two DUI’s and then chooses to knowingly drive on a suspended license. Not “without” a license, on a suspended license and you think that’s far less troubling?
    His judgement is totally off, he learned nothing from the DUI’s but, hey, it’s okay. It’s just a suspended license.
    You are a moron, Napoleon Florio. To paraphrase Rick Patino, “heighth is just a choice”. Come on, Flo, choose to be over 5’5″.

    booooooooring who doesn’t get dui’s. Amazing thing is he got 4 days of trash clean up and his rep is boasting about it. Good attorney for getting that done – 2 dui’s around here gets you atleast 6 months in the local cell.

    Revis wasn’t on him the entire game jack ass. If you watched the game you wouldve seen sheppard and strickland on him when Jackson was lining up in the slot which was quite often because of his fear of Revis

    The problem with a site more concerned with continuously posting “news”, is that they are all too willing to skim over the facts.
    Revis didn’t cover Jackson that whole game. So just because Jackson’s stats show 7-111, doesn’t mean they were all against Revis.
    This site is more like a tabloid than legitimate news source…

    What is it with NFL players. They have a great life getting paid millions and get to retire in their 30’s. Why is it so hard to stay out of trouble. It cost like a few hundred to rent a limo for an entire night if you want to go out drinking. I am tired of hearing about it. Playing in the NFL is a priviledge not a right. I say let Goodell throw the book at any one stupid enough to risk their golden goose. Guaranteed if I could trade places with them I would easily keep out of trouble, if anything I would be even more careful.

    You mean other than his constant denials of criminal conduct? Just because Ben knows better than to wave a red towel in front of an angry NFL commissioner doesn’t mean he was guilty of anything. It means he was smart enough to realize that you don’t mess with the people who control your future earning power.
    The end result was no DNA found anywhere. Not on the “victim” and not on in the bathroom. Period. The worst thing Ben did was buy a bunch of shots for some girls without proofing them first. And the DA didn’t even have enough to bring that pissant charge to a grand jury.
    If Ben deserves 6 games for being CONVICTED OF NOTHING, then someone like Jackson, who has been convicted multiple times should be looking at a year.

    @Beauregard …
    Let’s be clear. I’m not apologizing for criminal behavior. I’ve reviewed all the documentation in Nevada and Georgia and I’m saying straight out that no one was raped. If the Nevada woman’s text messages say she wants to see him again, she wasn’t raped. If the Georgia medical exam says there was no intercourse, she wasn’t raped. It’s real simple for mature grownups who can read.
    @picksixbolts …

    We know it isn’t right but even the adamant fools on these boards have done it when they were young.

  33. contract says: May 1, 2010 1:23 PM

    Why is the national media not all over this story?
    Vincent Jackson is a menace to life and limb of every fan on the road. What if he had rear ended a 20 year old college nameless girl on her way to having drunk sex in the bathroom of a local bar?
    Surely that is a huge black eye for the NFL and its standards of conduct.
    If Vincent Jackson was white, he’d get a year of suspension for besmirching the reputation of the league and putting the fans at risk.

    I’m a Steelers fan, but I don’t blindly do anything and wouldn’t believe anyone on any subject–particularly rape–unless I checked it out myself. Ben’s an immature, reckless idiot, but the evidence says no one was raped. Goodell’s a pompous hypocrite, but the suspension and behavioral evaluation will probably be good for Roethlisberger.
    You want to talk about “blind” fans defending Roethlisberger. Well, I can back up my comments with hard facts from the case files–not from the gossip sites. What’s the comeback when I do that? “Duh … it doesn’t matter what you say. You’re a homer. Get a life.” Uh-huh. I’m not the one who’s blind.

  37. madmike77 says: May 1, 2010 2:19 PM

    After all of your ranting, has anything changed? Has Ben been arrested, charged, tried or convicted of anything yet? Have the legal authorities changed their minds? Has the law of the land changed?
    The fact is that your opinion is totally irrelevant, as is mine. The difference between us is that I happen to share the viewpoint of the States of Georgia and Nevada, along with the United States of America, which are the only ones that matter.
    You will fight back and insult me. You will attack my character in some pretty nasty ways very shortly, and nothing will change. Ben will be free and you will still be madder than hell, reflecting a sound and fury that has a grand total of zero relevance. As it is, was and ever shall be.

  42. joetoronto says: May 1, 2010 4:33 PM

    Deb: I wasn’t talking about you. I know your position on Ben though, I’ve read most of the comments and I’ll say this….
    We will probably never know if Ben actually raped a woman or not, BUT we do know that his behavior and his inability to keep himself out of trouble is a major concern for the Steelers and more importantly, the NFL.
    Ben’s 4 game suspension is based on the above, if he was convicted of rape, he might be kicked out of the league permanently, and rightly so, in my opinion.

  43. rshovlowsky says: May 1, 2010 4:57 PM

    Honestly I am a die hard Chargers fan. It disappoints me when I see stuff like Jackson getting a DUI. I was the happiest to see Cro go and am looking forward to Merriman going too. I will say this in regards to Jackson, the reason his license was suspended was BECAUSE they wouldn’t renew it because at the time he still had the on going DUI case going on. Doesn’t make it ok that he was driving but the 2 went hand in hand. What disappoints me the most is the fact that Chargers actually have a designated driver program for these players and it doesn’t seem to be getting used.

    I’ve met VJ before in a social setting and the guy was down to earth and gracious. Unlike some of the other trash that play(ed) for the Chargers that think their shit don’t stink. Shaun Phillips, Antonio Cromartie and Tim Dobbins to name a few. It’s no surprise Cromartie is gone and Dobbins was thrown into that draft day trade, while VJ is still here.

  47. Deb says: May 1, 2010 5:21 PM

    @joetoronto …
    You changed your handle–I thought it was interesting that there were two NFL fans in Toronto posting as Joe :-)
    You’re right about Ben’s conduct, and a harsh intervention was needed. Maybe it will prompt him to change directions. Would have preferred it to come from the Steelers because there would have been no charges of unequal justice or calls for matching league suspensions as there are now. As for the rape issue, after reviewing everything carefully, I’m confident no rapes occurred or I wouldn’t have posted with such vehemence. But after all the incendiary things that have been published, I can understand why others would have doubts. My certainty doesn’t have anything to do with Ben personally–he seems to be a dog–or with the Steelers. It’s just the only conclusion based on the evidence. I don’t expect anything honorable from McNulty, but someday Georgia may come clean. Her “friends” dragged her into this sordid mess, and I feel sorry for her.

Odell Thurman of the Bengals got 2 dui’s and rite after his 2nd dui convicition the NFL gave him a lifetime ban, which was a little extreme and here vincent has had 2 dui’s a driving under suspension and other charges and still is aloud to play. guys such as Stallworth get drunk and then kill someone and he gets a lifetime ban, which was rediculous. Not to mention players getting caught with drugs over and over and they get 2nd chances.
