After North Dakota State guard Keith Buckman went undrafted last weekend, the Jets called with an offer to attend this weekend’s minicamp. The timing left him with a choice: Minicamp or his brother’s wedding?
“It was pretty easy,” Buckman said of his decision. “I mean, I told him and stuff, and he understood. He’s just as happy for me today as I am for him tonight. It wasn’t that hard. I wish I were there, but I’d rather be here, to be honest with you.”
A 6-foot-5, 320-pounder, Buckman has a dream to play in the NFL, and he says his brother completely understands.
“When we found out, he just said, ‘Good luck,’” Buckman said. “He was happy for me. He was excited for me and I think he kind of forgot about his wedding a little bit.”
It sounds like Buckman’s brother has chosen a good bride.
“She’s cool,” said Buckman, who was supposed to be one of the groomsmen on Saturday. “She doesn’t care.”
I like this guy already!
Dude, you’re supposed to pretend it was a hard decision, even if it wasn’t.
“My brother’s wedding? Who gives a crap about that?”
Wise choice. Rookie minicamp is a once in a lifetime thing.
He can always attend his brother’s next wedding.
“She doesn’t care.”
haha, this guy must be a real popular brother-in-law.
No one went to Florio’s wedding either.
Signing bonus Vs wedding gift. Hrmmmm…
If his future sister in law doesnt care, then the biatch doesnt get to go to his home games if he makes the team.
How to alienate your future sister-in-law:
1. Say that your brother kind of forgot about his wedding
2. Claim she doesn’t care that a groomsman is dropping out a week beforehand
3. Say it was an easy decision.
Obviously he’s doing the right thing, but sometimes these young football players need to think before they speak.
I was gonna say the same thing JoeSixPack.
With the divorce rate over 50% this UFA has a better chance of making the Jets roster than his brother’s marriage lasting more than two years.
ur right…. when he gets cut after the weekend, well he will always have is 15 minutes of Rudy fame……………………
not saying its the wrong choice tho
@JoeSixPack: LOL
Ben probably raped his future sister-in-law.
His future is on the line here, thats why his brother was supportive.
Haha nice one JoeSixPack
And yea, weddings are crap anyways.
Good on him. Good to see a family with their priorities straight. It would have been a shame if there had been guilt tripping.
On a related note: The Governator skipped his dad’s funeral to keep training for a Mister Universe title.
I choose THUNDERDOME!
Are you kidding me. Any guy will take the first chance to get out of a wedding. Weddings are torcher.
Let’s see… Chance of a lifetime on one hand, sentimental garbage on the other hand…
Yeah, tough choice.
What a bitch. Who plans a wedding during mini camp season when your future in law is an NFL prospect?
the wedding was in north dakota, that explains everything.
That’s not a very good way to get in Rex Ryan’s good graces.
A better way would be the blow off Minicamp, go to the wedding, and bring back one of the layers of cake. Then you can count on a spot on the team.
I have to agree with bluenoser. But I’d blame the groom more than her. She wouldn’t know.
big deal, this is America … there will be another wedding for his brother pretty soon
What happens when he doesn’t make the team…hmmm
I doubt he’s making the final cuts anyway
Let’s see, sit in a church for an hour listening to a child molester in a dress drivel on about god. Followed by watching overweight women drink two glasses of wine and fall over with a bunch of idiot dudes trying to make a name for themselves at a wedding. Or get your ass kicked on a football field….He made the right choice.
