As the water was rising in LP Field Monday, Titans fans had something else other than the Nashville floods on their minds. They wanted to renew their season tickets by Monday’s deadline.
“There are more pressing issues in our community -- life and death,” said Don MacLachlan, Titans executive vice president of administration and facilities. “We have had fans trying to call us and even trying to get to the stadium for fear of missing the deadline.”
The Titans, of course, have extended the deadline. It’s now next Monday and may be extended again if necessary. The team has instructed fans not to come to the stadium.
The reason for Monday’s flooding at the field as become more clear. A nearby Nashville Electric Service substation had to be shut down because it was threatened by flood waters.
Once the power went off, the stadium’s pumps could no longer get rid of the water under the ground. The water eventually rose to six feet over the field.
“I am certain there will be some sort of water damage to all areas of the field service level,” said Robbie Bohren, the Titans’ director of media relations.
