Market is slow to develop for Adalius Thomas

There was plenty of speculation this offseason regarding what teams would go after Adalius Thomas once he was released by the Patriots.

The early answer: no one is that interested.

Ten days after Thomas was released, he still hasn’t taken a visit.  NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora says a reunion with Rex Ryan is doubtful at best.  San Francisco isn’t interested.  La Canfora hears no interest.  Miami appears to be going young.

Adam Schefter says the eye in the sky doesn’t lie.

“The tape from last season says more about Thomas’ play than the
Patriots decision to cut him. Teams around the league that studied
Thomas were not overly impressed.”

  1. thomas excelled in the raven “system”. he has a bad attitude. good luck on him making an impact with a new team.

  2. Amazing how quickly Belicheat lost his ability to “get the most out of defensive players”, once all his precious SpyGate tapes were destroyed.
Defensive genius? More like a genius at cheating.
Thomas will probably go play for some legit NFL defensive coaches this year, and do just fine.

  3. Good riddance. Useless on the field. Locker room cancer. Great to see nobody picking up this slug.

  4. Does this guy fit in the Vikings scheme? If so… doesn’t he make sense as a veteran role guy until their LB corps work themselves out once EJ comes back… if EJ makes it back.

  5. What a load of crap.
The simple fact is… the Jets wanted him but weren’t going to wait all offseason to see what the Patriots did. The didn’t want to go into training camp without improving their pass rush so they jumped quick to sign Jason Taylor.
The Patriots released Adalius only AFTER the Jets showed their hand. The Patriots weren’t going to help the Jets out, and were fully prepared to make Adalius wait until right before the season to find a new team unless they got a trade offer for him. Patriots were not going to let him go to the Jets and have all offseason to work with their biggest division rival.
In the end, Adalius will wind up on a team… and that team will probably be the Jets. And he will be proving all you haters wrong.
I’m sorry but… you can’t tell me that the film on Adalius Thomas looked worse than the film on Tomlinson from last year. And the Jets signed that guy. Adam Schefter is a joke. La Confora is right there with him.

  6. If he’d simply beat his wife or rape a coed, the Steelers would be interested. If he committed numerous lesser offenses, the Bengals would have signed him already.

  7. hmmm? I’m so confused why no one is interested in a 32 year old pass rusher who was just cut by a team who’s only outside rush will now come from Pierre Woods and Tully Banta Cain??? Apparently the other 31 teams know the same thing the Patriots know.

I am surprised a 4-3 team hasn’t pick him up as an end.

Why? Because if you change his position to DE in Madden he gets a 90 rating? In real life, Adalius Thomas isn’t a natural pass rusher. He’s a good athlete who used to be a freak athlete that Rex Ryan and Mike Nolan could use to exploit offensive linemen. It’s one thing to get by a LT when you get a running start and you’re 270 lbs with sub 4.5 speed.
He’s not the athlete he used to be and he never developed enough as a football player to compensate for that.

  9. I’d take Burgess over Thomas, he had a better season last year, and wasn’t a whiny b!tch like Thomas.

  10. That’s what happens when you’re exposed as an average player with eroding skills and no heart or discipline.

  11. Everyone raves about ozzie newsome’s ability to draft talent. This is a prime example of how well ozzie judges talent in general. He let AD walk which wasn’t a very popular decision at the time. Three uneventful years later and now AD’s unemployed with no interest.

  12. If he’d simply beat his wife or rape a coed, the Steelers would be interested. If he committed numerous lesser offenses, the Bengals would have signed him already.

  13. I’ve been a Ted Thompson supporter for the most part, but he needs to set aside his disdain for signing anyone over 27 for a moment and pick-up this guy. Worst case scenario, he would provide solid if not spectacular depth at OLB. At this point I’m sure he could be signed for relatively cheap. It would be tragic if Matthews or even Jones missses significant time and the Packers have to go with Poppinga or Obiozer at starting OLB.

No, because NFL coaches are morons. And I am surprised a 4-3 coach isn’t jumping on him to force him into a role we will never fit. IE a pass rusher.
I know how the game really works. Most coaches and GMs are gluttons for punishment. And they always think they can change a guy.

  15. Belichick benched Thomas after the Denver game last year. AD went for an entire quarter without engaging an opponent. He followed plays at half speed. The guy has no speed, plays lost, and shows no desire. And he was a lockerroom cancer. He is DONE.

  16. Wow! How far the mighty have fallen.
Yes. The Omaha Nighthawks. What would you expect from a league that has a Tusker. Reminiscent of the cool names the USFL had.

  17. Because he was cut, the Jets can sign him without ‘final eight’ considerations and because there is no salary cap the Jets can make a splash and sell more PSL’s….yet they don’t. Must be because the Jets are just trying to make Schefter and LaCanfora look good.

Go pump your fist, Jersey Shore. Jets still suck. Nice pickups this offseason. They all suck now.

  19. AD just didn’t get it! I don’t think Vrabel was an athletic freak….He was smart enough to know where to be though.

AD had a great year in 07, he looked pretty good in 08 too until he broke his arm, in 09 he sucked. If you had any brains at all you would know that the defensive signals of your opponent are kind of useless if their defense is not on the field. Get a f***ing brain. Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Get over it. You are a moron. FYI Belichick is taking over the defense this season, so lets just wait and see what happens on Nov 14.

The pats did good getting rid of him. I hope the Jets take him next.

  22. Always amazed that fans don’t know the basics of the Spygate story.
It was about filming DEFENSIVE signals. Jeez. You do realize, ItalianArmy, that QBs have radio transmitters in their headsets, right?
It’s unreal how many people don’t understand basic strategy.

  23. Jets fans are all class. You would think they had won something in the last 30 years to talk all the crap they talk.

  24. I am sure he will end up some where but who ever wants is probably going to wait as long as they can to get him cheap.

    ______________
Hey hey, now. The Jets have won TWO WHOLE division titles in the past 40 years. They’ve also won 15-20 pre-season superbowls…especially this year. If they didnt actually play the games, the Jets would already have the lombardi this year, too. Tomlinson was a good player 3 years ago

  26. I truly believe that Ted Thomspon feels that Brad Jones will, in his second year at the position, be a stud and therefore is not looking to bring in someone like Thomas with so many question marks – Does he still have it? Will he be a cancer? Will he be a cancer if Jones does play well and injury free and Thomas does not want to ride the pine?
OLB was identified in the draft as a need – we definitely need to shore up the position for the future and if a player who was a model citizen and could add veteran leadership was out there I am sure Thompson would make a move just like he did for Charles Woodson. Right now Thomas is just a name with a resume of diminishing returns. I think Belicheat would have found a way to “get along” if he felt Thomas had gas in the tank. Letting him go is a signal to Thompson who respects NE’s talent assessment that this is not a right fit for GB -unless they can get him cheap of course.
    Go Pack Go!
