Rams could deal Barron to Cowboys for Carpenter

Two first-round disappointments may get traded for one another soon.

PFT has learned from a league source that the Rams and Cowboys have discussed a trade that would send tackle Alex Barron to Dallas for linebacker Bobby Carpenter.

Carpenter was limited to passing downs last year, and has rarely contributed much to the Cowboys attack.  Barron is a false start machine, but has started 74 games in five seasons.

There are contractual issues at play for both players that may need to get resolved.  Carpenter is entering the final year of his rookie contract.  Barron is a restricted free agent.

While this is only a rumor for now, we hear the deal has a good chance of getting done.

might be just me,but i always see the cowboys overpaying for “skill” players and always trying to skimp on the guys every great team needs to build greatness[the middle],why not go out and secure a real tackle that has proved himself, good luck to romo trying to get the ball to all those pretty targets when he is running for his life on every play,it will catch up to them, possibly this season,,,8-8 this year

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We just got rid of our own false start machine…….

Rams are pretty stupid huh, looks like they are giving matt millen a run for he money.

It’d be interesting to see how many of those false starts for Barron happened at Qwest Field . Quite a few I would imagine … everyone jumps the gun when they’re playing at the Q : )

  7. CJ says: May 6, 2010 1:26 PM

The Cowboys should just sign Shawn Andrews and move him to LT.
I know the Eagles wouldn’t mind.

Flozell Adams replaced by Alex Barron: one false-start machine for another.
Bobby Carpenter is a total bust.
    Hahahahah stupid cowboys.

Laurenaitis is the only top notch LB to come out of Ohio St. since Vrabel..

Alex Barron has the market on false starts cornered, whether at Qwest, the Jones Dome, in line at the grocery store, in the bathroom; the place makes no difference. I still like him better than Carpenter, though.

Leonard Davis was supposedly a “bust” when he went to Dallas. It was just that he had crappy coaching and a crappy team. Perhaps Barron can be salvaged from “bustdom”.

  13. Floriooooooo says: May 6, 2010 1:51 PM

A bust for another bust FTW!!
Let’s see if Al Davis can deal JaMarcus Russell for ….. oh wait, there’s no one stupid enough to still keep that big of a dead-weight salary on their team.

  14. jaybebo says: May 6, 2010 1:53 PM

This is a good move by the Cowboys…if I remember correctly wasn’t Leonard Davis a complete bust in Arizona. Maybe it is something about NFC West teams that give OL players problems…

    QB1:
If you ever watched Barron play, like I have every week since we drafted him, you would realize he has a lot of talent, but not a lot of heart to go along with it. You see him standing around a lot after plays, engaged with no one. He never chases the play to get an extra block. He said one time his dream was to play in the NBA, but he wasn’t good enough, so he stuck with football. It’s very obvious that he has no passion for the game. I don’t think that can be coached.

  16. Floriooooooo says: May 6, 2010 2:05 PM

@QB1 Leonard Davis was also a tackle until he got to Dallas….
    just sayin’

They’ve already said that Doug Free is the starting LT.
Carpenter and Barron are both basically going on one year contracts. He’d be a back up this year, and they’d take the year to see if he is better than when he was playing on a bad team.
Leonard Davis (1st round pick) was a disappointment in Arizona. Comes to Dallas and he’s a Pro Bowl guard.
Maybe Hudson Houck can do the same thing with Barron. If they don’t see the potential, they don’t have to resign him… just like they would have done with Bobby Carpenter.
Carpenter is going to get squeezed out by Sean Lee, so Carpenter would not be needed by Dallas. Rams could use a linebacker.
    Deal makes perfect sense.

my birds were 0-3 agains these Queers last year. . . . when they had an O-line. / what’s the bounty on Romo set at
i cant wait for this season.
    giants suck

  19. lesmilesneedsabrain says: May 6, 2010 2:15 PM

Jerry, go get J. Brown from New Orleans. I bet Loomis, would make a trade if Barber was inlcuded..

  20. jlbay says: May 6, 2010 2:16 PM

Smells like the Cowboys aren’t as sold on Doug Free being a long term replacement for Flozell Adams . . . also looks like with St. Louis drafting Rodger Saffold with the first pick of the second round Barron becomes even more disposable than before the draft . . . when he was on the trading block.

Why did my pony-tail comment get erased?????????

  22. FireJerryJones says: May 6, 2010 2:23 PM

Cowboys would be lucky to get something for Carpenter. They’d probably cut him loose in August.
    Something for nothing.

  23. se18a29 says: May 6, 2010 2:28 PM

both teams suck so it won’t matter. Might was well through in the pukers too.

  24. branchbranch says: May 6, 2010 2:43 PM

Bravo Rams…another horrible move. Bust LBs like Carpenter have no value in the NFL whatsoever. At least with Barron you can hope better surrounding parts can help him turn the corner. Poor Sam Bradford…this organization is horrible.

Absolutely correct. I watch him every week too (sometimes I wished I could go blind) and he gets ragdolled or beat on speed rushes by guys that should be working the fry machine at McD’s. The best thing AB does is show up and not get hurt. Even with all this said, he’s a more accomplished player than Carpenter.

  26. jj jones says: May 6, 2010 3:07 PM

Barbie Carpenter had no business being a first round pick. What a joke. I think Parcells owed his old man a favor.

  27. King Benny says: May 6, 2010 3:07 PM

It’s hard to hear during Rams home games!!!!! Give Barrron a break, have you ever played in front of 12,000 fans that don’t really give a shti?!!!

    ————————————————–
how is drafting in the trenches and building great lines anything like Matt Millen? People forget that Jason Smith is gonna move to LT and is looking like he is gonna be great, add that with the signing of Jason Brown who is one of the best centers last offseason. Plus they drafted Roger Saffold who will take over at RT eventually, and maybe soon. Jacob Bell and John Greco are both solid guards, add them with Adam Goldberg and Matt Setterstrom and the Rams have a very young very talented O-line.
Adam Carriker didnt work out on defense, but Chris Long will be a great player imo, and James Lauranaitis is a great LB.
Just because they finally got their QB after years of building the lines doesnt make them anythign close to Millen. awful comparison.

Doug Free is the STARTING LT. Columbot is the STARTING RT.
    This is a depth move.

    ===================================
Geez dude…get a clue. Barron’s contract is up and he’s not in their long term plans since they now have 2 young bookend OT’s. Between Barron and Incognito alone they averaged about 35-40 yds in penalties per game in addition to the sacks both of these turnstiles gave up.. With the addition of C Jason Brown last year if they can stay healthy they have the makings of a decent OL. As for trading Barron, the Rams aren’t going to get value for him so giving Carpenter a chance in a 4-3 defense does make some sense. At worst he’ll add to our paper thin depth at OLB and help on special teams.

I love reading comments posted on stories about the Cowboys. So many haters, and they’re always so well spoken, lol. You guys can’t help but comment on everything Dallas related. I bet it tears you up inside. “Another Cowboys story? Must….not….post…comment.. but…can’t..help…myself…damn!” Lol!

  35. MONSTER says: May 6, 2010 6:15 PM

I laugh at the retards who think we are trying to get Barron because we want him as our starter LOL!

  36. heartstl says: May 6, 2010 6:57 PM

I believe the Cowboys will start Barron… but it will be a mistake. He flashes greatness against elite pass rushers and then gets knocked on his butt by nobodies. The Rams don’t want him anywhere near the team because he’s a symbol of everything that went wrong.
