Vince Young is raising money for flood victims

Titans quarterback Vince Young, the team’s on-field leader, is taking the lead in connection with efforts to raise money for local residents affected by the recent flooding.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, Young is working with Reebok and his foundation, seeking donations to assist the relief efforts.

“Nashville has taken a beating from Mother Nature and the damage is
unbelievable,” Young said in a statement.  “People have lost their lives, their homes and their
businesses.  Billions of dollars in damage hit Middle Tennessee in just
2 days.  We will be rebuilt stronger than
before, so will our efforts to take care of those most affected in our
community.  Nashville will be so beautiful again!”

Fans who donate $100 will receive a signed Pro Bowl photo from Young and a “Flood ’10 Reebuild” T-shirt.

Though we applaud Young for its efforts and we don’t want to sound crass (or, more accurately, any more crass than usual), the article says nothing about the size of the check that Young will personally be cutting.

His salary for 2010 is $7.5 million.

Sorry pal, you lost me there.

  2. WarLoxx says: May 6, 2010 7:44 PM

Man that Vince Young comment was crass.

  3. brasho says: May 6, 2010 7:46 PM

He’ll probably be doing nothing just like most of the other celebrities that think their time is the only thing they should donate but wouldn’t think of donating any of their precious money they have so much of.

  4. cdh3626 says: May 6, 2010 7:47 PM

Why do you always have to be a dick and not just applaud him for doing something to help the community.

  5. GoBrowns19 says: May 6, 2010 7:48 PM

He doesn’t care, he’s just doing a PR stunt.

  6. The Real Shuxion says: May 6, 2010 7:51 PM

Maybe instead of giving 68 million to build a shrine for Liberal icon Ted Kennedy the government should use that to help those flood victims.
Whether you are left or middle or right you should be pissed about this waste of taxpayer money.

    Kudos to VY.
Florio……get a grip. It’s nobody’s business how big a check someone else writes.

Way to go Florio. Way to turn something good into a negative. Way to act more crass than usual.

I have really come to like vince young. He seems to be an outstanding human being. He’s already more of a winner than fat Ben will ever be.

feel good news ending with the obligatory dickhead statement. good job.

  15. litemater says: May 6, 2010 8:08 PM

Crass? How about disrespectful? How much did you give Florio, when the text for Haiti fundraiser was going on?

  16. Chapnasty2 says: May 6, 2010 8:09 PM

Hey Florio how many $10 text message donations did you send out of your likely 6 figure income? The guy is helping, proving that he has grown up but yet you still try to bash him. I don’t like him either but give the guy credit.

  17. mustbechris says: May 6, 2010 8:11 PM

why does it need to? that’s beyond crass. when you post articles asking us to donate to the red cross, i don’t expect you to say how much you’re donating.

  18. Orton Hears A Who says: May 6, 2010 8:14 PM

Florio you are a dick, the man is raising money cut him some slack. What are you doing to help???

  19. EverybodyGotAIDS says: May 6, 2010 8:16 PM

Well he isn’t much of a QB….seemed like a little bit of a basketcase, but hey, can’t fault a guy for doing something good.

  22. TEXANS 19 cowgirls 10 says: May 6, 2010 8:20 PM

    Florio,
You were just about to have your first post where you weren’t a doosh. Then….
“Though we applaud Young for its effor and we don’t want to sound crass (or, more accurately, any more crass than usual), the article says nothing about the size of the check that Young will personally be cutting.  the size of the check that Young will personally be cutting.  personally be cutting. His salary for 2010 is $7.5 million”
The doosh streak is still intact…
P.s. I hope all the titans wash out to sea with all the trailerparks when the waters recede.

  23. arsenalrules says: May 6, 2010 8:22 PM

You should have stopped this entry after “Flood 10 Reebuild” T-shirt.”
Unless you’re going to head to Nashville to help with the donation drive or write your own personal check – and I’m sure you’re free to do either, Florio – spare us the cheap shot at Young’s effort.

  24. CanadianVikingFan says: May 6, 2010 8:25 PM

Didn’t he take in Steve McNair’s kids as well? Vince Young is one classy dude, immature at times, but still a classy guy. Has really grown up.

  25. Meat Tuperello says: May 6, 2010 8:25 PM

Great move by Vince, his Agent.

  26. Kay Bee says: May 6, 2010 8:26 PM

  27. bigmikethompson says: May 6, 2010 8:28 PM

If this had been in some third-world craphole., everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Tom Hanks would be crying it up on prime-time by now. Barrack Obama hates white people….

What exactly will the statue be of? Will be him driving a woman into a pond and leaving her to die? Will it be of him and Chris Dodd “Big-Benning” waitresses? Or will it be a statue with a speaker that plays him speaking in Spanish to illegals?

  29. SixburghSteelers says: May 6, 2010 8:40 PM

I see why almost everyone on here bashes you Florio…

  30. peititans says: May 6, 2010 8:48 PM

I’m sure VY’s donation will be somewhere between the 1 game check Big Ben donated to Tsunami relief and the 4-6 game checks Big Ben will donate to the Human Fund.

  31. Steeleheader says: May 6, 2010 8:48 PM

Glad this kid got a grip. He’s got a great job, but this is what/who he should be.
PR? No. Disaster in Nashville? Yes.

  32. Juvenile says: May 6, 2010 8:53 PM

VY’s time is worth money, and lots of it. He doesn’t have to do this and I don’t see anyone else stepping up. Congrats to him for taking the time to care and help out. Crass is an understatement glorio.

  33. Jesse Custer says: May 6, 2010 9:32 PM

Florio, that last little statement may have been the ultimate dick move.

  34. Bob says: May 6, 2010 9:35 PM

Nothing like drawing attention to a company “Reebuild” during a tragedy. All class and typical corporate America.

  35. thecrazytomato says: May 6, 2010 10:29 PM

I think Im officially done with this site. The news that is actually important isnt reported until way later. This site used to be good until it became NBC. Now its just filled with a ton of junk and any news that is worth a damn I already heard it hours ago from other sites. Then we have articles like this one, in which Young should be looking like a good guy and yet MR. Florio decides that he wants to attack him.

  36. Joe C says: May 6, 2010 10:33 PM

Can someone raise money to teach him how to play QB?
Seriously…we need more people like V.Young and less like Lawrence Taylor.

  37. Sharp Observer says: May 6, 2010 11:19 PM

5/6/10. The day Florio jumped the shark.

  38. bigstorm says: May 6, 2010 11:20 PM

whatever he donates will be $1.00 more than you Florio you P.O.S.
    Nice hair hat.

  39. DC_Bengals_Fan says: May 6, 2010 11:34 PM

“Florio……get a grip. It’s nobody’s business how big a check someone else writes.”
If he’s trying to get some free PR for it, and if he’s asking regular folks to donate, one might be interested to know if he’s putting his own money on the line.

  40. *Legion* says: May 6, 2010 11:37 PM

As much as I’d like to rip Vince Young, classy people who donate money usually *don’t* let the size of their check become part of the story.

  41. BigBear123 says: May 7, 2010 12:23 AM

Though we applaud Young for its efforts and we don’t want to sound crass (or, more accurately, any more crass than usual), the article says nothing about the size of the check that Young will personally be cutting.

First thing I wondered while reading it was how large of a check VY was writing. Not really crass, he makes large sums of money playing a sport, he can offer some change if he is asking others to. Especially when the disaster affects the city he plays in.

  42. Chicagojeff says: May 7, 2010 12:42 AM

Hey Florio.. how much is your salary for 2010? Since you seem so comfortable commenting on VY’s salary. I think all media persons should be ethically compelled to divulge their salaries and investments whenever they comment on players or celebrities.

  43. Voice of Football says: May 7, 2010 12:55 AM

Florio, you midget… the article also makes no mention of your douchebaggery, but it doesn’t mean that you’re not a douchebag.

  44. tian says: May 7, 2010 7:34 AM

…And what are YOU doing for the flood victims in Tennessee?
If you’re not doing anything, then why are you disparaging someone who is? His salary is irrelevant when you make, what $150-200k or so… and giving away nothing.

  45. sundaybloodysunday says: May 7, 2010 8:26 AM

Here’s an idea for you Mike. Have Vince on your show and ask him how much he’s giveing. BUT…. after he tells you, YOU MATCH THE DONATION.

  46. runtheball says: May 7, 2010 9:23 AM

Good for Vince. However I doubt this gesture will save his job next year. Look at his stats, he is JaMarcus Russell on a better team.

  47. johnny696 says: May 7, 2010 9:51 AM

Florio, have you seen what is happening in Nashville? People have lost there lives, homes, businesses and all you are worried about is how big a check VY writes? Seriously, get over yourself.
Love him or hate him, at least VY is doing some good for the people in Nashville.

  48. GOVIKES|GOVIKES says: May 7, 2010 10:23 AM

I’m starting to think you make comments like that cheap shot at the end of your article just to drive comments. You guys must get paid for it somehow, maybe that comment splash screen counts as another page view or something.

  49. Donna says: May 7, 2010 2:36 PM

I m going to need you to tell me how much money your giving to the cause. Since you took the opportunity to point out Vince Young’s contract amount, how about publishing your own and then put your money where your mouth is!! The fact that he is trying to do something for the citizens of the communities that support them on the field is more than I see you or any other Celeb/Athlete/Jerk Off Columnist doing!!
