Giants, Ravens give look-see to Wondy Pierre-Louis

The Bengals aren’t the only team in the AFC North to give a second chance this week to a cornerback with a history of doing things he shouldn’t have been doing.

Pacman Jones has a gig in Cincinnati -- and former Florida defensive back Wondy Pierre-Louis could be landing a job in Baltimore.

Pierre-Louis is participating in Ravens’ minicamp on a tryout basis, despite being arrested in January on multiple felony counts, including domestic battery by strangulation, burglary, battery, false imprisonment, and hindering communication to law enforcement.

He allegedly entered his girlfriend’s home, pinned her against a wall, said “I could kill you,” and then tried to strangle her. He later pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal mischief, and he received a sentence of one year of probation.

Unclaimed in last month’s draft, Pierre-Louis also participated in a recent Giants minicamp on a tryout basis.

Look, we realize that guys deserve second chances, and we suppose it’s a good thing that the Ravens and Giants aren’t applying that approach only to players with high-end abilities. But at a time when Ben Roethlisberger gets suspended six games for alleged violence against a woman that didn’t even result in an arrest, how does a guy who was a career backup at Florida get a chance to land an NFL contract with a rap sheet arising from roughing up his girlfriend?

Surely, there are players with marginal NFL talent who haven’t committed violent acts against a woman.
