Matt Ryan foresees 12 or 13 wins for the Falcons

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan isn’t lacking in confidence.

Ryan believes the Falcons, who went 9-7 last season, will have an even better record in 2010 than they did when he led them to a surprise 11-5 finish as a rookie in 2008. And he’s not shy about expressing that belief.

We feel like we’re a lot closer to 12 or 13 wins than we are to eight,” Ryan said Saturday, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Last year was frustrating because we didn’t make the playoffs, but you always want to be in the mix. You always want to be playing for something, and really until the last three weeks we were.”

Ryan doesn’t want to sound like he’s making any guarantees, but he does believe the Falcons should be one of the league’s best teams.

“No predictions from me,” Ryan said. “But 12 or more wins sounds good.”

Considering that the Saints went 13-3 last year, if the Falcons want to win the NFC South, they may need to win more than 12 games.

Considering that the Falcons finished 9-7 last year, with multiple injuries and a killer schedule, I think 12+ wins is a reasonable expectation this year.
Hopefully they can get Tony Gonzalez the playoff run he’s been seeking so long.

Matt Ryan is overrated by Falcons fans, its sick. We never heard Manning or Brady say such things like this, its very immature by Ryan.

Matty Ice and the Falcons will be handing the rest of the NFL their collective arses. Ain’ts won’t win 8. Tough to do when your coach will be spending his weekdays on trial.

At best the Falcons win 9 games this year. They can get to 13 wins if they count the pre-season, but I think the Patriots will beat them. So Matt Ryan is right, 3 pre-season wins and 9 regular season wins, that would be 12 wins……
They will lose to the Saints twice, Carolina once, at Pittsburgh, at Philly, Baltimore and Green Bay at home. That would be 7 losses right there.
    Falcons…..HA!

This coming from a guy who was a 5th year senior at Boston College playing in the weak A.C.C. and threw 22 PICKS.
22 PICKS in college? Are you kidding?
He already has 25 PICKS in 29 games in the NFL.
He is a 72-million dollar BUST.
Give me a break, they won’t even win 8 games this season.

  18. FAST says: May 8, 2010 3:16 PM

I can see the dirty birds winning 12 this year….. and winning that division. That team is solid, and the schedule is easier than last year.
Turner at 100%, and Ryan and the WR’s with another year of experience mkaes them a threat if they can stay healthy.

  19. Saints#12 says: May 8, 2010 3:21 PM

Ryan will throw 12 to 13 more INT’s this year..he threw alot of INT’s in college an will do the same in the NFL.an we know Falclown fans say ryan is better than Brees..that shit crack’s me up!!! everytime those falclown fans opens there mouth’s.it like an elephant taking a shit..were’s your ring atl??

    dear matt ryan,
i realize that you play in the nfc south, and don’t often face good defenses (CAR 9th, NO 25th, TB 27th)… but you’ll get an opportunity this year (CIN 4th, BAL 5th, PIT 6th). good luck.

Falcons loser fans are funny. I used to be a Falcons fan, but they haven’t been relevent since 2004 when they last won a playoff game or won the division.
They spent 72 million dollars on a string bean qb who can’t throw a pass over 20 yards without it wobbling like a duck.
The Ravens spent 30 million dollars on Joe Flacco and he already has taken the team to the championship game, back to back playoffs and are in position to make a superbowl run.
It’s been 6 years of failure, why would it change now?
    The Saints got better………….
    The Panthers got better…………..
    And they have……………..
    - The Ravens
    - The Saints twice
    - The Panthers twice
    - The Eagles
    - The Steelers
    - The Packers
They are going to be home for the holidays once again.

I think he might be right. They should rebound, so 11-12-13 wins SHOULD be in sight. But as MDS points out, they are in the division with the Saints. But we all know about Superbowl hangover.
Let’s see Falcons win the division, with a discombobulated Saints gloating on themselves and struggling to get wildcard.

matt ryan won as many games in his 1st yr as vick ever won for the falcons,he’s the right guy forthe falcons organization.for all the ryan haters talkin how bad he was in college,he didn’t have nfl worthy talent at any of the off skill positions and was still good enough to be drafted so how.and don’t get me wrong joe flacco is a good quarterback but he had absolutely nothing to do with the win against the patriots in the playoffs.that win was made by the ravens run game and defense.flacco has been great for the ravens but that pats game he was horrible,i was there and saw it 1st hand.

  37. Drat says: May 8, 2010 8:16 PM

Wow, Blondy, you seem a little offtrack and maybe unhinged. Ryan is doing all right, considering the problems he walked into in Atlanta. You’re one of those fans that only sees the QB, as if they’re standing alone on the stage for American Idol. Maybe if you Tivo the games, record them, get some schooling, study the plays, the offenses, the defenses, then maybe you’ll change your mind. Just a little. But a mind is a hard thing to change.

  38. ericthred says: May 8, 2010 8:18 PM

@dogma1 “We never heard manning or brady sat such things like this.” You obviously don’t watch the nfl network,in the same nfl draft promo commercial brady and manning are both letting the viewers know how the draft process went for each of them.Manning’s telling the colts brass “If you don’t pick me i’m gonna come back and kick your butt for the next 15 yrs” and Brady stops pats owner Bob Kraft in the hallway on his 1st day at the stadium and tells him”Hi MR Kraft,i’m Tom Brady and its the best decision you ever made picking me”…both of those guys made there statements before they even signed a contract and matt ryan is the cocky one for foreseeing a possible 12-13 wins in his 3rd yr.come on now.

  39. FriarBob says: May 8, 2010 8:56 PM

Heh. It’s always funny to see people try to make predictions about this stuff. Last year this time they were the fashionable pick for the super bowl. So I wasted some time ripping that idea to shreds.
You just never know. It might happen this year. And then again, it might not. The Saints might win it all again, and they might not. All predictions are really just an exercise in futility, because even when you get it right you still didn’t “know”.
That said, they are still fun. And until they get their defense fixed, they are basically a weaker version of the Saints of 2007/2008. Decent offense and weak defense. And until they fix that, the closest they will get to going somewhere special in January and February is when they redecorate the TV room.

  40. lakedog19352 says: May 8, 2010 9:00 PM

10-6 at best. 1st round playoff lost at best. Stop running your jib.

  41. Jesse Custer says: May 8, 2010 9:03 PM

Calling Ryan a bust is ridiculous, and I say that as a Saints fan. Their running game was far from up to snuff last season, and they had a multitude of injuries. I think it’ll be more of a two-horse race in the NFC South this year and both the Saints and the Falcons will make the playoffs.

  42. ltstorm1 says: May 8, 2010 10:01 PM

@NinerFan_Ace Was P.willy and co. on the team in 09 when the Matt Ryan led Falcons flew out to San Fran and beat that ass 45-10 in your stadium? Just curious.

  43. hotchick says: May 8, 2010 10:04 PM

At least we got some logic when Jesse commented. Unril then geesh…..
I mean Falcon fans always running their mouth? They are one of the most silent fan bases out there.
People listing the games they are going to win and lose? IN MAY!!!! Who predicted the Cowboys and Bucs being the Saints first two losses last May? Stand up, raise your hand so we know who the liars are.
Find me 5 Falcon fans who think Ryan is better then Brees. And don’t count you ten year old brother who says it to get under your obviosly thin skin.
And no knock on Flacco meant here, but lets compare Flacco and Ryan after the sample of data is at least partially credible. You got one guy pointing out the trouble Ryan will have facing the Ravens #3 defense. Another pointing out how the Falcons need to improve their D before they can expect to win 10 games (ignoring they just one 11 with a worse defense then last season). And another stating Flacco is obviously better then Ryan because he has been to a championship game. What the disparity in the defenses has nothing to do with the teams level of success? The health of each teams running game does not help or hinder each QB or the teams ability to reach a championship game?
Too many of you boys need to learn what it takes to win football games before knocking a QB who says he feels his team is closer to 12 wins then 8.

  44. BasicInstinct says: May 8, 2010 10:36 PM

Honestly, Michael Turner sucked most of last season…..broken thumb, sprained ankle, limp dick, whatever it was, it ruined the Falcons season because they wouldn’t bench the pig.
Now maybe Ryan knows he is to expect a decent running game to give him a little space to work….more space than last year when the Falcons running game sucked.
Maybe all Ryan is saying is that the Falcon’s will have a decent running game this fall…..I hope so.

You do realize you lost all credibility after saying you used to be a Falcons fan until the losing got frustrating for you, right? Who was your favorite last year? The Saints?
You talk about Matt Ryan’s numbers like someone who doesn’t actually watch football games. Fantasy Football does not equal Real Football (see: Brooks, Aaron).
