Excellent post–and that’s coming from a diehard Steelers fan. Lombardi’s Packers won five consecutive championships, including the first two Super Bowls. Amazing accomplishment. When we’re smack-talking, we generally focus on the Super Bowl era. But the NFL has been around twice as long as the Super Bowl. Without Slingin’ Sammy Baugh, Jim Brown, George Halas, and other legends of the sport, we wouldn’t have the game we love today. Pretending those early championships didn’t count is like pretending the American Revolution didn’t count and our nation’s history began with WWI.

While we are at it, all those Yankees championships before expansion, the DH, free agency, should not be counted if we are using your logic. Neither should any NBA Championship b4 the ABA merger. Also, all NCAA basketball championships b4 the game clock change should be discounted.
The NFL didn’t start with Super Bowl I. There was a rich tradition and many classic championship games before it. The Packers had the greatest dynasty in the NFL’s history. Facts are facts. Not to take away from what the Steelers have done, but YOU ARE DEAD WRONG and look foolish.

I’m an anonymous fan posting on a football blog. Why are you so preoccupied with my whereabouts? I’ve commented several times since the SI story appeared.
As I’ve said from the beginning, Ben is a jackass. And it’s become more evident just how big a jackass. That doesn’t change the evidence in Nevada or Georgia. My only argument has been that the evidence doesn’t support a rape charge. Georgia investigators reached the same conclusion. So no matter how many times you stamp your lil feet and shake your lil fists, that case is closed.
I support the suspension and hope it serves as a wakeup call. Ben now has the opportunity to clean up his life. It will take a lot more character than he’s demonstrated so far. Time will tell if he can meet the challenge.
