Chicago could make sense for Smiley

Yesterday we noted that Dolphins guard Justin Smiley has hired agent Drew Rosenhaus in an attempt to get the Dolphins to either commit to him in 2010 or trade or release him.

We don’t yet know what the Dolphins’ decision will be, but the Chicago Bears have emerged as a team that could be interested in his services.

Neil Hayes of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo may be interested in signing Smiley if he’s released by the Dolphins.

Smiley says he feels good and is ready to play, despite concerns about his shoulder. Smiley played in 15 games for the Dolphins last year, starting 12.

Why are you ignoring the blantant tampering that is going on by Chicago? They can’t make comments like that about another team’s player.

So, if a very good player is released, then another team may be willing to sign him. Great scoop. It’s also rumored that if Peyton Manning is released, 31 teams may be willing to sign him.

He chased Rob Sims when Sims was open for trade. He talked about Faneca when he was a free agent.
For a Bears blog writer to SPECULATE that a G.M may be interested in who would become the best available free agent at guard is not evidence of “blantant”, or blatant, tampering.
