I think the AP should take Pete Rose’s all-star & mvp votes away from him, and while they’re at it take away Babe Ruth’s too.
Revisionist history makes it’s way to sports. How about an asterisk by his name with a disclaimer (if he’s proven to have actually taken steroids) that he was later to have been found taking an illegal substance. That way he’s in the record books for all to see with a transgression on his record. Let him live with the consequences of his decision & actions.

So what happens to the ROY’s for Peppers and Merriman. Yes, Peppers was for a supplement but it was on the banned list for PED’s. He was suspended for the last 4 games for which he won the award. Merriman was banned for a test he failed in the offseason of his ROY year and was suspended for 4 games of the next season. Cushing was suspended for a test he took in September but passed successive tests during the heart of the season. And, unless the NFL states what the substance was, we will not know for certain what Cushing failed for. We suspect it was steroids but the suspensions are for items on a specific list and all three failed. The AP is sending out two very bad statements, picking on one winner and not the other 25% who were suspended of winners in the last 8 years. Also, what statement will they be sending if they vote it back to him; that steroids are ok. WOW! Is that the message you want to potentially send.

it’ll be a shame if somehow dumervil and ware lose their first team status though. those two are definitely the best outside linebackers in the nfl. I think lance briggs should be the third guy there, he’s a beast, and has been for years. these guys gotta stop doing steroids though, its ridiculous. beyond getting caught and being suspended, its going to shorten their careers with the damage it does to ligaments and tendons. look at shawne merriman, the guy is falling apart and hes still a restricted free agent.

This is a dangerous precedent, but a litmus test whether the voters in the NFL give a damn about PEDs. IF he gets few votes, then we know they do care about cheating. IF he still wins again, then we know that the NFL voters still consider the Cheatriots the greatest team of the previous decade.

If I had to take a guess, I suppose Cushing got his 5 votes from people who didn’t want to cast a vote for a guy who is first and foremost a pass-rusher, and since Lance Briggs is the only full-time 4-3 linebacker of the bunch (and a damn good one too), perhaps he’ll receive a few of those 5 recirculated votes.
That being said, if Dumervil is in fact being deemed a linebacker, he’s well deserving of the votes he got.
