AP will redo defensive ROY vote, with Cushing as a candidate

The Associated Press has decided not to strip the 2009 defensive rookie of the year award from Texans linebacker Brian Cushing.

Instead, the AP will simply redo the vote.

According to Bob Glauber of Newsday, Cushing will remain eligible. Thus, in theory, he could win it again.

Maybe that’s why we’re now hearing that Cushing “took and passed a lie detector test.” The P.R. effort already has begun -- and we hope that the AP voters won’t fall for it.

The award could now go to Bills safety Jairus Byrd, or Packers linebacker Clay Matthews.

Meanwhile, since the AP apparently is in the mood to “get it right,” how about considering a new voting system that awards points for first place, second place, and third place, instead of merely casting one vote per voter?
