Vote on Kroenke’s attempt to buy Rams could come in the summer

The NFL’s owners will be meeting later this month. They won’t be taking up the question of whether Stan Kroenke (or, perhaps more accurately, his wife) will be buying the St. Louis Rams.

According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, a vote on Kroenke’s effort to purchase the 60-percent chunk of the franchise not currently owned by Kroenke could be held over the summer, in connection with a special meeting that would address various other issues, such as the still-languishing labor situation.

Kroenke owns the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and the NBA’s Denver Nuggets. It was believed he’d sell those teams to a family member in order to comply with the NFL’s cross-ownership rules, which permit possession of franchises in multiple leagues as long as all are in the same market. More recently, Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reported that Kroenke proposed last week that his billionaire wife, Ann Walton Kroenke, would own the Rams.

Regardless of the specific proposal, the owners must approve the purchase of the team.
