Patrick Crayton will be at mandatory practice

P. Crayton.jpgThe Cowboys start their Organized Team Activities Monday.

Tony Romo will be there, and hopes to participate in the final stage of qualifying for the Byron Nelson Classic earlier in the day.  (If Romo’s tee time isn’t early, he’ll skip the golf.)

Dez Bryant will be there, catching passes from Romo for the first time.

One player whose status is uncertain is Patrick Crayton, who has been given permission to seek a trade.  Crayton’s agent says his client will definitely show up to mandatory work, when it arrives.  (The OTAs are voluntary.)

“Obviously, I’d
like for Patrick to be there, but I understand his situation,”
Romo told the Dallas Morning News.  “
Patrick is the
kind of kid who works hard. He’ll be prepared, he’ll be ready.
He’s just in a tough situation for what he thinks. He’s doing
what he thinks he needs to do.”

We can’t imagine another team giving up much for Crayton, who still has plenty of value to the Cowboys.  If he’s already planning to show up at mandatory camp, this is probably a story that will go away before August.

IDK why Crayton wants a trade, he really thinks Roy Williams is better than him? They aren’t gonna put Dez in the slot. Roy Williams should just start eating uncontrolably and become a 8th string TE. God I hate that guy.

  3. Bill In DC says: May 12, 2010 12:08 PM

Dude, he’s requested a later tee time, one that will be after practice, not an early tee time. You have it reversed.

  4. Bill In DC says: May 12, 2010 12:13 PM

If he doesn’t show up, he’s only hurting himself, it would be stupid. He’ll be conceding the position without fighting for it. I don’t think Crayton is like that.
It certainly wouldn’t encourage any team wot want to acquire him because he’d be showing himself to be a problem waiting to happen.
His best bet is to come in and fight for his spot.

  5. Philly Cheese says: May 12, 2010 12:18 PM

Seems to me that if a team gives a player permission to seek a trade, that player isn’t a significant part of their plans moving forward. He will probably end up in Washington before training camp opens.

Its not like he is going to get better with practice anyways. That dude is an idiot and just in another long line of sorry ass Cowbum WRs

It irritates me to see averge players acting like they are better than what they are. He should be happy to be part of a Super Bowl caliber team.

I wonder where buddha, the all-knowing, is on this one.
Unfortunately for Crayton, the writing is on the wall for him. Austin is obviously the #1, Roy is getting paid too much and will be given every chance to succeed. Dez is obviously going to get his touches ahead of Crayton on the depth chart. Also, Kevin Ogletree looked very good in limited opportunities last year and Jerry has mentioned that he wants him to get more playing time. Factor in Crayton’s age and he’s most likely a goner.
Good player, solid contributor who is simply being pushed out due to a youth movement.

    super bowl caliber?
one playoff win in 15 years does NOT make you super bowl caliber. stop listening to the idiots on BSPN about what is and what isnt a super bowl team.

I still can’t get over that drop he had in that playoff game vs. the Giants. we go on to win that game had he not dropped that pass…..

this team has the talent to be the team of the decade with a couple of SB wins if they stay healthy and focus. I just wish we could get a stud safety and I bet JJ is working on some sort of deal to land one too. Get that position solidified and we are stacked for a 5-10 yr run with I predict 4 SB’s.
HOW BOUT THOSE COWBOYS!!!! JUST LIKE THE 90′S MTHER FING SUCKAS!!!

Are you kidding me dude??? Don’t let your hate of a division rival cloud your judgment. The Cowboys have won their division 2 out of the last 3 seasons and have beaten the last 3 of 4 Super Bowl Champions during their championships runs in the regular season. Yes they finally won a playoff game but they have really just been getting better. So while you praise McNabb this season and talk about all the promise that your team has, just remember that you were probably bashing him the last few years for not being able to get it done!!!

    Let’s try this again:
I think that he would, IF it were a fair fight. He outplayed Williams last year but he had to fight for every second of playing time that he got because Jones wasn’t going to admit that he had screwed up. They drafted Bryant this year and that moves him further down the pecking order and even if Bryant beats out Williams, Crayton won’t get the chance to be the number 3 receiver. BTW, how the Cowboys receivers fared last year: http://boards.edgy-sports.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2585&p=5733#p5718
I believe that a few teams will go after him but I think that the Dolphins are his best bet. They have Marshall and Best but Parcells loves Crayton and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make a bid.

  18. BigMikeSkinsFan says: May 12, 2010 1:38 PM

how far have you gotten in the playoffs? One freaking win in FIFTEEN years!!
you have to MAKE it to the Super Bowl before you can even consider winning it. You are letting your assumptions cloud your vision. You dont know my comments on McNabb at all.
just look at that idiot “boysroll”. screaming about how they are as good as the 90s Boys. Really? Because those teams WON the super bowl. No team after that has been even close.
So while you sit there and try to act like winning the division and beating the potential champs is something big also remember this; you CHOKED when it came down to it. You DIDNT make the super bowl and you havent even come close.

  19. DB26 says: May 12, 2010 1:56 PM

I really hope the Browns make a move for either Crayton or Hixon. Both have a ton of upside and have potential to be very good #2 WR’s in the league. Both Dallas and the Giants are deep at the WR position.

  20. jerryjonesftw says: May 12, 2010 2:10 PM

For the record, there is only one current quarterback with a higher overall passer rating than Tony Romo, and that is Philip Rivers. I don’t see where the argument that he isn’t very good has spawned from…

    Jackson says:

I think that 18 incompletions during the game meant more to losing that game than Crayton’s drop (Which, would have only meant that Dallas would have had a chance to tie the game and NOT win it, as some people try to say). Let’s not forget on that last drive, Colombo had one of his world famous false starts and that Romo missed on passes to Witten and Glenn (intercepted) and that the Giants were all over Romo in the second half and he went 10 of 22 after being 8 of 14 in the first half.

  22. Daddy Mateo says: May 12, 2010 2:23 PM

    BigMikeSkinsFan….
You have GOT to be kidding me??? You are right, winning divisions and beating the ACTUAL champs is not the same as winning a Super Bowl but it is moving in the right direction. You can talk about only winning one playoff game in fifteen years all you want but this team has not been together for 15 years and Romo has only been the QB 20% of that time.
Every franchise goes through rough times, just look at your Skins, and with Free Agency and the salary cap (I know that is gone as of this year) it is inevitable that after having so much success your team WILL eventually be torn apart.
And you are also right that you have to make it to the show before you can even consider winning it, but that doesn’t mean that a team cannot be a Super Bowl caliber team prior to making it there. The Saints were a Super Bowl caliber team last year for the majority of the season (yes that means BEFORE they got there), as were the Vikings, Colts, Chargers and Cowboys.
I understand that Cowboys bashing is probably one of your favorite pastimes but do not come on here talking about how much they suck – especially when your name on this site is BigMikeSkinsFan, meaning you don’t really have a leg to stand on….

  23. BigMikeSkinsFan says: May 12, 2010 2:35 PM

    I dont?
If we are going to go by playoff wins as going in the right direction then we are TIED.
does that sound about right? Theyre the same team?
The Saints were also undefeated when they were called a super bowl caliber team. The Chargers arent a super bowl team and neither are the Vikings. They are strong teams but none of them have ever shown what it takes to get to the big dance, let alone win it.
and neither have the cowbums. Take my name away and the point still stands. You are trying to act like 1 playoff win in 15 years means you are a dominant team. To the rest of us they just look like the Barry Bonds of the NFL. Really good in the regular season but choke once crunch time comes.

“I hope Rom-O-Choke is better at golf than he is at football…for his sake!”
Oh right, because he obviously sucks at football.
Forget the fact that he regularly shreds the high-dollar 0-3gles defense and their defensive “geniuses” with monotonous regularity.
0-3gle fans continue to prove themselves to be the dumbest animals on the planet.

  25. edgy1957 says: May 12, 2010 2:58 PM

Mea Culpa, I was thinking about an earlier drop by TO that would have given the Cowboys 21 points. Crayton’s would have won it.

  26. EskinSux says: May 12, 2010 3:07 PM

Damn Florio……Can you please get Romo’s tee time right……For crying out loud….It means so much

  27. Daddy Mateo says: May 12, 2010 3:24 PM

WOW….I thought that I was actually talking to someone that KNEW something about football or even had BASIC reading comprehension.
First off, I don’t know how you equate the Washington Redskins of the last few years to the Dallas Cowboys of the last few years? My point was that WINNING DIVISIONS was a step in the right direction, where Dallas has done it twice in the last 3 years and Washington hasn’t won the division since 1999 (BTW – that is a decade ago. I wasn’t sure how your basic math skills are either so I figured I would make it easy for you).
Second, I never said that we were a dominant team, the argument is that Dallas is a Super Bowl caliber team, and considering that they won their division last year, made the playoffs, won a playoff game and actually beat the current Champs – I could probably make a good case for that.
I am not going to continue going down this road with you since there is only ONE team that can win it all every year and it hasn’t been either of our teams in the last 15+ years and might not be for another 15+ years. But, Dallas does have more a chance than Washington in the near future and just as good of a chance as any other Playoff team from last year…but again, that is only MY humble opinion.

Dude, just freakin’ focus at one thing at a time. There will be enough time to play golf once your retired. Hell, you can even try for the Senior Tour.

little mike in the house…..woooop wooooop…..doofus!

  30. manofaiki says: May 12, 2010 4:20 PM

Crayton was a 7th round draft pick who played his way to the 3rd receiver slot for a few years, then the #2 but has now been bumped backwards through no fault of his own to #4.
Roy Williams has vastly underperformed and was handed Owen’s #1 spot and did nothing with it. Then after being bumped to #2 by Miles Austin, Williams still did nothing. And Crayton has been bumped down behind Williams as Williams dropped down the depth chart.
Drafting Dez Bryant means our WR chart SHOULD read:
    1. Austin
    2. Crayton
    3. Williams
    4. Ogletree
    5. Bryant
But it won’t. Instead it’s likely to be:
    1. Austin
    2. Williams
    3. Bryant
    4. Crayton
    5. Ogletree
Crayton has been a good WR in this league and he deserves better, so if he finds a team where he can start, I’m happy for him, but I do hope he stays with Dallas.

“Romo + golf = Opportunity for injury” Are you kidding me? Go ahead and play professional football, but what ever you do, don’t play golf because you might get hurt. Come on dude, get real!
    @BigMike
So the Cowboys have a long line of bad WRs, huh. What do you call Randle El, Lloyd, Thomas, Kelly…. The Skins had to sign 38 year old Joey Galloway just to have someone mediocre. Yeah, I’ll use Washington as the bellcow of quality WRs.

  33. naskar says: May 15, 2010 11:35 PM

it’s cowboys, not cowbums… seriously dude, you’ve got no business talking smack until your time can at least finish .500 and compete within the division…
patrick crayton, maybe you should be more concerned about your play than running your mouth all the time, if you’re that good, than you’ll earn your playing time, plain and simple…
