Report: Rumor flies that Brett Favre will forego ankle surgery

NFL_favre4.jpgWe suppose at this point that we can go back to last year’s stories regarding Brett Favre’s will-he-or-won’t-he stance regarding whether to have surgery on a partially ruptured biceps tendon and replace the phrase “partially ruptured biceps tendon” with “ankle.”

According to Charley Walter of the St. Paul Pionner Press, whose “Don’t Print That” feature is received by many readers with the mantra, “Won’t Read That,” Favre won’t be having the ankle surgery that he reportedly needs (unless, of course, he doesn’t) in order to play football for a 20th season.

Walters calls his report merely a “hot rumor,” one that had not made its way to our mongering ears.  Either way, we’re operating under the assumption that Favre will play in 2010.  And we won’t believe that he’s not playing until he doesn’t show up and play.

  1. May as well put a target on the ankle then. There’s his first of many excuses for poor play this coming season.

  2. Now, we are starting to get some real newsworthy stories. We need to keep the Favre reports, rumors and speculations coming.

  3. He will play. This is a fake injury, just like the excuse he had last year for blowing games for the Jets.

  4. Favre is the Man! My guess is 80% chance he’ll play this year.. 70% chance he won’t.

  5. Every article about Favre is the same, he is not going to play unless he decides to play. Nobody cares, the Vikes won’t be in the Super Bowl with or without Favre. Maybe if there were Super Bowls in colder climates that would help Favre retire. Favre has the stats to be considered for best QB ever. He has the personality to be considered the biggest ass ever! He needs to just walk away and take the records with him!

  6. Yo, Florio…you have a Days w/o Arrest monitor. How about a Days w/o A Favre mention monitor? Both track actions by individuals busted for bad behavior!

  7. He will have the ankle scoped and be ready for preseason game 1 against the Rams. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

  8. I used to love Favre. I loved his toughness. I loved his attitude of screw it…throw it..I loved his team. I loved his ability..I loved everything about him..in a football way. Not gay. I am so sick of this now. After 14 years I gained enormous respect..which dissapeared in 3 short years. Favre..although sometimes erratic..you were unique. And a good player. For for gods sake..just make up your mind. He obviously still has the talent to be a starter…so choose. WTF

  9. It’s a woman’s prerogative to change their mind. Favre is the only male exception. Have to wonder if he left his stones behind in Green Bay. What a femrod.

  10. You’ll have to continue reading Favre off season stories as long he’s the 2nd ranked QB in all of football.

  11. Report: Rumor flies that Brett Favre will play for all 32 NFL teams before he retires.

  12. who are we kidding – Favre will be playing in 2020 much less worrying about 2010.
    This dude will have to be dragged off the football field and will do everything he can to not go into the HOF as a packer – unless Thompson gets canned first.

  13. Favrah’s done. Face it Vikes fans. He didn’t give a rat’s behind about you all. He just wanted to try to beat the Packers. Have fun with T-Jack running the show.

  14. He could announce his comeback 15 minutes before the season opener in New Orleans, and be better than 95% of the QBs in the league.
    lol at the fact Adrian Peterson is the reason the Vikings did not win that game in New Orleans…
    Go figure.
    And props to Florio for constantly banging the rock on how a Peterson fumble (or 3) would cost the Vikes in a huge game.

  15. HAHA I wish the Vikes and Brett would just come out publically and say what everybody already knows. Brett’s Coming back but he’s not going to mankato for training camp. Instead he’s doing just as he did last year, he’ll wait until the absolute last moment and say, “oh yea i’ll get the surgery now, but i won’t be ready until the 3rd pre-season game. Everybody gets mad i just laugh at this crap.

  16. As Farve reads this, his nuts swell to epic proportions as he’s once again relevant.

  17. It is my understanding that if he were to have the surgery now, the recovery period would have made him available in late June. He felt that was too close to actually being able to particiapte in training camp, so he is postponing the surgery until he is certain won’t be healed until he can show up on the morning of the first game of the season. More importantly, he has been assured that everyone in Minnesota is OK with that, team personnel and fans alike…..that is how special he is. Minihapless….big city dreams with village idiot realities.

  18. The Saints gave every team in the league a blue-print for beating the vikings, hit favre again and again. 18years ago a good beating actually elevated his level of play. Now not so much.

  19. He IS definitely coming back…all this rumour mill b.s. is just to keep the NFL faithful reading and watching in the slow season…
    Even if he comes back a shell of his former self you know his ego will not let him sit out after the season he ruined last year.
    The Favre needs redemption…and the Minne’snow’ta fans want to stroke him off for one more season.
    I hope Nick Barnett makes good on his promise and does crush him this season…unlike last season when the Packers D got about as much penetration as an impotent theoretical physicist.

    Umm….Favre was never a great quarterback. He was a very good quarterback. He is a top 25 all-time quarterback…but it’s not like he’s a top-10 guy. You don’t end multiple seasons by throwing an INT in a crucial situation and get consideration as an all-time great.

    Which probably got it from Brett Favre’s penis.

    They were released by Favre’s camp!!! Who releases photos of their owies to the press?? Who does that?!?!?!?!

  27. It’s all a hoax. Funny, not once did anyone request to see the scar on his shoulder from last years surgery. Lord Favre loves toying with the media and letting them run with his made up stories. As a Vikings fan, I love the guy but why can’t he just zip his lip all off season and just show up for week 1 in purple and gold. Harroooo!!!!

  28. JDVIKES34 –
    This guy doesn’t get mad at the Favre talk….he’s getting mad at all the Los Angeles Vikes talk. I get it bro…the window is closing to get a winner here in Minny…it’s now or never! (man, last year would’ve been sweet…if only Brett hadn’t stuck Porter in the chest)
    Part of you is scared he doesnt come back…

  29. Maybe Favre’s trainer convinced him the ankle surgery would negatively impact the benefits derived from the proposed grandbaby knee bouncing regimen.

  30. All of these “rumors” are relaeased by farve just so people keep talking about him. He’s just feeding his giant ego.

  31. Mabye Chilly’s sphincter is too loose to entice Favre to take the pain and punishment for another year, maybe Chilly’s dress selections don’t hold any allure, maybe Favre figured he could drive himself from the airport, who can tell what Favre is thinking?
    But that’s the problem with any narcissist, you just can’t predict which direction their ego will go.
    But the Viking fans are just learning what the Packer fans went through for about 5 straight years, his ego means more to him than the team and in the end, what do you get? A season ending INT. He is all yours.

    that was funny about 10 years ago.

  34. this makes very little sense to me considering that it was only a couple of weeks ago that multiple sources were reporting that favre would need the surgery on his ankle regardless of whether he was planning on playing another year or not.

  35. jimicos
    your implication that jared allen purposely injured matt schuab is as far fetched as saying al harris purposely injured adrian peterson’s knee a couple years ago. both were accidents that just happen.

  36. Charley Walters has zero credibility. I think he starts rumors for his own entertainment.

  37. LBPACKFAN- Im not scared because he is coming back I know you don’t want him to beat your team twice again i get it, but sorry bud he will be back. BTW you ready to start planning that trip to Lambeu?? Oh wait you’re scared i forgot. Also the Vikes are not going anywhere mark my words.

  39. Mr. JimmySmith, Excuse me, but did the Vikings not beat the Packers TWICE last year! I used to be a Pack fan until Ted Thompson treated one of the best Packers ever like dirt. At some point the true story of the Rodgers, Thompson ties will come out and at least Favre will get some sympathy. I have never said that TT should not have moved on to AR, but he did not have to treat Favre like a woman scorned! Oh, maybe he was?

  40. Love the idiots that think this is a “built in excuse” for poor play. Lol….same idiots said the same thing last year regarding his bicep injury. Of course, we never heard another word about it and Favre was MVP runner up and had his best season ever. Doesn’t stop the idiots from running their mouths unfortunately.

  41. there’s nothing wrong with Brett!!!!!!! he’s happy he got helped his childhood team win a SUPERBOWL
    Brett you’ve got the best seat in the house in the SUPER DOME anytime, any game..

  42. FYI- hot rumor = less than credible source
    Charlie Walters = less credible than a hot rumor

  43. Oh, how Florio loves Brent Gump
    The QB who is quite a chump.
    He drank too much in Atlanta,
    he made the Packers drink too much
    Mylanta,
    And the Jets to think “why can’tcha?
    And now the Vikings he says, “where’s my 12 million-cha-(ching!).
    He is quite a faker that Gump.

  44. He’s going to put the surgery off long enough that it “forces” him to miss the New Orleans game. He’s scared.

  45. I was really hoping for a couple more seasons from favre. I knew he had the records for most interceptions and most fumbles (a record that took blanda nearly 25 years to attain) but i was really hoping he could add to those totals and put those records completely out of reach for all of history.

    According to the site below, Warren Moon holds the career record for most fumbles. Favre is a close second. Blanda is in 131st place.

  48. Most likely he’ll coincidentally have the surgery just before training camp starts. “Damn, dudes, want to be there with ya, but…”

  49. Why are all Packer fans so hesitant to acknowledge this man’s season he had last year, and their distorted view of the Vikings. It is beyond humorous.

  50. jimicos
    the very common implication when jared allen and schuab are mentioned in the same sentence is that allen purposely hit him.
    but you didn’t imply that with your post? you were just stating your observation that allen hit schuab twice. yeah, right. you carefully pick your words so you can deny you ever implied it. and you were responding to a comment about putting a target on favres ankle. sounds intentional to me. you did imply it, or you wouldn’t have posted it.

  51. you heard it here first, brett favre had the surgery, my wife’s mom works in the dr’s office where it was cleaned up, he is for sure coming back. so there you go

  52. According to the site below, Warren Moon holds the career record for most fumbles. Favre is a close second. Blanda is in 131st place.

    I should have seperated the two I knew Favre broke Blandas record for interceptions 2 years ago (I believe blanda set that record at 48 years old)
    I also knew after this season favre SHOULD have the record for fumbles.
    I stand corrected-however Favre is 2nd to no one when it comes to turnovers

    Jesus what is it with queen fans. Brents best season was the ONE in which he won the SB. Last season Favre had the same season that 30 other QB’s had. He lost…again!
    The vikings haven’t had ANY kind of success throughout their entire history. I guess seeing a qb like Favre playing on your team gives you a woody, but the bottom line is he choked-again, and the queens add another year of Uff Da! (or whatever it is they say) to their sorry history.

  56. Rodgers last pass of the season was a short pass over the middle to Jones for 14 yards.

  57. You wanna know whats more annoying that Favre talk? All these clowns that come on here and do the cliche “oh another annoying favre story” or “im sick of favre” You idiots act like someone has a gun to your head and you have to read these articles. Just dont click on it or even come to the website. Nobody cares how much you care about the story. Give it up.

  58. this article has ZERO relevance to whether or not favre comes back. what i beg of all you vikings fans to understand is that brett favre does not care about the vikings. he is not a true viking, he is as much a viking as he is a jet. he whored the jets out to get to EITHER the bears or vikings, the bears went cutler, favre whored out the vikings just for a chance to play the packers TWICE, because im sure he didnt expect to win both games (i know, he did.) He proved his point, aaron rodgers proved mccarthy and thompsons point, and now its all over.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    YOU my friend are the reason for our “distorted view”. No Packer fan I know would ever say that last year Favre didn’t have his 1st or 2nd best season (statistically) ever.
    If your referring to people who talk about all his picks, you missing the point.
    The thing about most Packer fans is this:
    After he retired and went to the Jets it was split 50/50
    After he retired and went to the Vikes it went about 80/20 (and by 80/20 I mean about 80% of Packers fan considered him a jerk and an afterthought, and the other 20% remained clasped very tightly to his taint)
    Most Packers fans I know had the thought of mind that as long as the Vikes don’t win a Super Bowl, we’d be fine with getting to watch you guys have to go through the current lame-ass day time drama you know find yourself in (which reminds me, congrats on the two regular season wins!).
    Getting to see a QB end 3 consecutive seasons on game-ending INT’s for three different teams, pretty unprecedented.
    Getting to see him do it for one of you rivals, a rival that is the NFL’s face for choking, priceless.
  60. Yes, now Br-INT Farve can have another great regular season only to throw away a playoff victory with a Jackass of a pass. Seen it 1 too many times Br-INT
    Completely hilarious seeing Rodgers “kick” your playoff hopes against a pretty average Cardinals team last year.
    Hey, we know we Favre is 2-0 against the pukers, so expect the hate…..GOTTA LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
  68. A lot of Packer fans DO hope he comes back so we can have another chance at beating him. Still can’t figure out why Viking fans love him so much. You could’ve gone to the Super Bowl if it hadn’t been for that interception. I’d be mad as hell at him!! He’ll do it again, mark my words! Then will you finally realize what Packer fans realize.     I’m not sure I agree with this. I guess it depends on your definition of the word “pass”.
    Favre’s last passing attempt with the Jets was an illegal forward pass. His last legal pass attempt with the Jets was an INT. As was his last pass for the Packers. And the Vikings. And the Falcons.
    “Pretty average”? They kicked the Queens’ asses, didn’t they? I guess that makes the Queens less than average?
  71. I have to laugh every time I see a Favre post, he is, he isn’t. He must flip a coin every morning until preseason to figure out which way the story will go. I do believe media is a big part of it, but 2.7423 retirements will also make the media do stuff like that. John Elway didn’t really have that problem.
    The Vikings DID beat the Packers 2 times last year and they do had a hell of a team, but that was the 1st half of the season when those games occured still learning 3-4 defense, the 2nd half of the season the Packers were greatly improved and the only 2 loses they had were vs. the teams that were in the superbowl the year before and that was still before they could give Rodgers protection. Aaron Rodgers WILL WIN A SUPERBOWL before his career is done. I really hope it’s with GB, all he needs is the time.
  72. Favre threw an INT for the Vikings in a situation where an incomplete pass also puts the game in OT. Hell even a completed pass guarantees nothing. The teams were tied before and after his 2 minute drive attempt. Both teams still have about a 50/50 chance before the coin flip. The team’s drive was a wash overall. Same as running out of time or punting.
    Rodgers literally handed the game to the Cardinals in OT. Rodgers played terrible the first half. He did play great the second half. In OT he promptly handed the ball, or kicked it rather, to the opposing team’s DE. If he doesn’t do this, the team might win. If he does do this, they lose instantly.
    Yet Packers fans all off season clamor about how Favre threw the game away and we should be mad about him “choking”. You just have to love that Kool-Aid logic, lol. Er, duh guys, you’re season ended on a more extreme case of QB chokeage. Do you chumps ever realize that all these posts are to convince yourselves of something, and not us?
    Vikings fans know it was slippery hands, poor officiating, and bad luck that sunk our ship. Not Favre’s interceptions. He played well in the game despite being hit illegally several times.
  73. Favre was responsible for 3 turnovers and only one TD. Rodgers was responsible for two turnovers and 5 TDs.
    You can’t say an incomplete pass puts the game into OT. An incomplete pass gives the team a chance to kick for the win. A 5 yard gain down the sideline gives the team a very good chance to win. A 5 yard completion down the sideline does the same.
    Ryan Longwell was 8 of 8 on 50+ yard FGs in 2008/2009. Would it have been unlikely he’d make that FG? Absolutely. Is it beyond the realm of possibility? Absolutely not. Favre gave away the chance for them to win the game. There’s no way to spin that. A FG attempt from 55 or 57 is hands down better than a terrible, Pop Warner-style INT.
  74. And don’t talk to me about illegal hits. Favre wasn’t hit illegally on the play that ended his team’s chances. Rodgers was.
