Vikingsfan must have trouble counting past one or does he feel that Jason Taylor was the only expired contract FA this year? Even though it was done thru released FA’s, acquiring LT was basically a trade for Thomas Jones.
Tannanbaum trying to earn exec of the year. He makes bold moves and tries to get rid of players two years too early rather than two years too late. Yes Ellis can still play, but they would be foolish not to listen to offers for any player.

Absolutely, and now that the Pats have signed Burgess. Rex may feel like hey the heat is off now we can release him…look for a release soon.
The Pats resigned Burgess for the minimum or close to it…this is part of the I can outsmart you game..Ellis fits the prototype size, length for OLB..in the 3-4. I don’t think this story is finished just yet. Stay tuned.

OMG he has been a headcoach in the league for one season and (I presume) this Jets fan is already putting him in Canton!!!

I don’t really see why nobody would trade for him, unless the Jets are asking too much for him. He’s still got another 5 years left, he’s only been around for what, 8 years? I can understand why the Jets might trade him though, the ideal fit for his position is an undersized DT and he’s a bit more of a 4-3 DE. He’s 6-5 285, I’d like to see someone at that height but weighing more like 310-320. I think that’s a bit more of what it takes to hold the gap against elite OT’s. We don’t want him to necessarily rush the gaps, he needs to hold his ground more to prevent the OL from getting to what the 3-4 defense is built around, the linebackers. If you’ve got a NT like Kris Jenkins who commands a double team every time, it’ll line up at least one of the DE’s on a single blocking scheme making it much easier to send Jason Taylor plowing through/past a RB into the QB. Makes me think the Jets definitely would have taken Jared Odrick if the Dolphins didn’t get in the way. Can’t say I disapprove of Kyle Wilson in that spot though. That could end up being the steal of the draft (unless Clausen or McCoy end up being superstars… I do foresee McCoy being a hell of a starting QB now that he’s got Holmgren developing him).

There is no particular reason they should release Shaun Ellis. He’s slowed down, no doubt, but is still a versatile veteran and solid player. If he were making an exorbitant (by NFL standards) amount of money, was completely ineffective, or there was a replacement at the ready, I could possibly understand letting him go, but none of those are the case. As a side note, Rex Ryan will, when all is said and done, fall somewhere between Belichik and Lombardi in the pantheon of legendary NFL coaches.
