L.T.'s effort to create "reasonable doubt" is bolstered

It was somewhat laughable on Wednesday when TMZ reported that Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor plans to defend himself against statutory rape charges by claiming that he did not have sex with the 16-year-old prostitute who came to his hotel room, and that he instead merely, um, yielded his domain.

But now the “I did not have sex with that woman” defense has moved to a new level, due to an account that the girl told a friend that she didn’t have sex with Taylor.

“She starts explaining that it was weird because she didn’t even have
sex
,” an unnamed source tells the New York Daily News.  (It’s unclear whether the source is the friend, or a friend of the friend.)  “When she got back in the car, she wasn’t mad or anything like that.  She
was like, ‘Wow’ — she got paid $300 and didn’t have to have sex with
him.”

Sorry, but we’re not buying it.  It smells to us like an effort to manufacture “reasonable doubt,” in the hopes of securing an acquittal at trial or, even better, a decision not to prosecute Taylor on felony charges.

Let’s consider what we knew before L.T.’s camp had a weekend to retreat to the drawing board.  First, the girl was sufficiently traumatized after the experience to send an S.O.S. via text message to her uncle, who then called police.  This conflicts with the idea that she “didn’t have to have sex” with Taylor.  Second, lawyer Arthur Aidala told Mike Francesa of WFAN on Friday that “[t]he evidence is gonna show that there was some contact between the two
and that they did not have sex,” and Aidala explained that by “sex”
he meant intercourse.

Third, Taylor gave a statement to authorities after he was arrested, before he was charged with having sex with a minor under the age of 17.  Aidala said on Friday that he had not yet seen the statement, that he expected to get it this week, and that he planned to attack every aspect of its content and collection.  It’s now Thursday, and nothing about the content of the statement has been reported or leaked.  Thus, it’s possible that Aidala has received the statement, that he doesn’t like what it says, and that he’s doing everything he can to come up with an explanation or an excuse that meshes with the theory that L.T. paid $300 to not have sex with the girl he reportedly thought was 19.

    Sounds like a set up to me. Oh and by the way your L f’n T wtf do you pay for. Just go into any upper class bar/joint and proceed to hook up. It’s not like your Big Ben or anything. I am sure you can still get a lil nook, without having to pay for it in the traditional sense.

    Now there’s the rub: Florio making a case that unnamed sources shouldn’t have credibility. For that reason, most of PFT has no credibility. I read this report elsewhere, and it’s very clear that the source is a close friend of the 16 year old girl and will be easy to confirm the idenity. It is a specific person. I can understand the indentity being withheld so as to protect her from media hounding in this high profile case.
    Obviously, Florio wasn’t a very good attorney or he wouldn’t have become a hack internet ‘shock jock’ instead. It’s very possible that any statements that LT made are inadmissable because he wasn’t properly Mirandized. I doubt LT would have said anything incriminating before lawyering up.

    It’s very possible that he didn’t do anything with her, The host of the hilarious radio show on Sirius/Xm The Jason Ellis Show, has talked about how he used to pay to do that all the time, and he’s been saying it for years now. This is totally believable.

    Floria, you are the ultimate tool! Stick to reporting stories and providing links to real stories. That’s why 99% of us go to this site. You obviously sucked at being a lawyer and you’re trying to make up for it by blabering on with your opinions that make no sense. You are the king of reporting “news” with fake sources. It’s laughable that you’re questioning the source in this case. Steve Smith called you out for what you are.

    If she was sufficiently traumatized wouldn’t she have called the police herself ?
    Much like other incidents this off season I got a feeling we will never know what really happened. Of course that won’t stop people from calling for LT to be burned at the stake, and others from calling the girl a prostitute who set him up for a payday.
    Either way Florio is a winner due to all the traffic this TMZ crap generates.

  7. PhD says: May 13, 2010 11:34 AM

  8. Meldog says: May 13, 2010 11:34 AM

    What a shame…..he was so careful. He went to a hotel to meet the prostitute, paid her the full amount she asked, maybe didn’t even blow it on her face and the pimp pisses her off in the car so she calls the uncle to save her from the pimp and LT gets screwed.

  11. tian says: May 13, 2010 11:38 AM

    It may well be that the trauma isn’t with the john, but with the pimp. By the way I see it, she probably texted due to the pimping activities, not because LT had sex with her.

    I totally agree with @FreeAgentPro -
    if this unnamed “source” is actually a close friend of the child hooker, it’ll be easy to confirm her identify. the source also said that she gave the child hooker the bottle of Brandy that was found in LT’s room. in my mind, the cops simply need to lift fingerprints off the bottle – and if the source’s prints are found – well, her account of the events just got a big fat boost of credibility. unlike most of the shi*t that’s reported on this site.

  21. LaSeeno says: May 13, 2010 11:50 AM

    This case is BS. If the girl said she was 19–she was 19. This is how cases should be handled. Let’s say this girl had a fake ID. Should a man still be punished for breakign the law when he did all that he could reasonably do? Absolutely not. There is a reason why there is a judge and in odd situations, such as this, certain “laws” should be allowed to be bent.
    Prosecute him for solicition but not statutory rape.

    I cna’t believe Florio hasn’t picked up on this tidbit:
    If the girl was a minor, it does not have to be intercourse to constitute sexual assault.
    Secondly, every pedophile in the world would use the “I didn’t know how old she was,” excuse, or the “She told me she was 19″ excuse if a court accepted it. If you don’t know the age of a potential sex partner and that person is close, you better find out for sure before riding on the love boat.

  27. Big Stuff says: May 13, 2010 12:00 PM

  29. Bob Nelson is a Whiney Titty Baby says: May 13, 2010 12:05 PM

    With Taylor as a client, the lawyer had better be working every angle. An acquittal or a hung jury will be as good as a nolle prosequi. However, if the pimp is facing federal charges, the feds had better not get wind of any witness tampering in a state case that could affect their case. They will not be happy and they don’t play. Michael Vick found that out.

  30. leaguemvp says: May 13, 2010 12:15 PM

    But the difference here when compared to “most” cases is that the girl ADMITTED that she lied about her age. That means LT really didnt know her true age, and not because he didnt ask, but because she lied to him. That should count for something. If a judge cant comprehend that fact then he needs retire and get a job pumping gas.

  31. Panda_Claus says: May 13, 2010 12:20 PM

    Big Stuff, do we know the condom was used? I’ve only seen references that a condom was found. If unopened, it could signify intent to have sex, but nothing more. If used, then yes, your point is obviously correct.
    But if DNA evidence if found, and implicates something happened between the two parties, then that would eventually trump any attempts by Taylor’s legal team to claim nothing illegal happened.

    Florio pointed out your little “tidbits” days ago. That’s why he’s suggesting that this whole new “storyline” from the Taylor defense and the “quote” is just an attempt to bolster the “New” defense they came up with when Taylor FINALLY got a lawyer and was told “Hey dummy – it doesn’t matter if it was intercourse if she was under 19, AND it doesn’t matter WHAT age she TOLD you.

  36. Deb says: May 13, 2010 12:47 PM

    @LaSeeno …
    There’s no bend in the law whether it’s a man soliciting a prostitute or a 21-year-old with his 17-year-old girlfriend. She could shout her consent to a roomful of people but her boyfriend would be facing the same charge LT is facing. And his name would still go into the sex offender registry. That’s one reason law enforcement has such a difficult time tracking real predators–because these names are pumped into the national registry even though we know these men aren’t “predators.”
    joetoronto says:
    why didn’t she “text her uncle” after the numerous tricks she turned BEFORE LT?
    ——————————————
    This is my problem. I’m not condoning LT’s behavior; he definitely brought this mess on himself. But something isn’t right here. She ran away in March and has been in the clutches of an abusive pimp who has forced her into prostitution. She’s been desperate for an opportunity to escape. I can understand why she wouldn’t tell her story to Taylor and even why she’d text her uncle instead of the cops. But how did she get a phone? And did she have access to it prior to meeting Taylor? It seems very coincidental that her rescue would coincide with the arrest of a famous client.

    —-Do we know the conditions under which she made this statement? Do you know that she wasn’t coerced? Has LT stood on every one of his initial comments? Do you think that someone with LT’s history and his relationship with a pimp who deals drugs who delivers women to hotel rooms will bode well in his defense? I don’t think it matters what she said, if she said it, or even if she wasn’t coerced. Bottom line: LT had some form of sex with a minor prostitute that was brought to his hotel room by a pimp for $300. A jury will love this. Doesn’t matter what the judge thinks.

  39. FreeAgentPro says: May 13, 2010 12:52 PM

    “Furthermore, why didn’t she “text her uncle” after the numerous tricks she turned BEFORE LT?”
    Because LT was prolly her first celebrity and she saw a chance for a big payday for herself and her family. It’s also possible that LT counseled her on getting out of the situation she was in. That might explain why he paid her $300 and didn’t have sex with her. He might have felt sorry for her after she told him her story and before they did anything.

    And that is what is wrong with americas legal system right here.
    It HAS To matter if someone lied. In a situation like this it has to matter. Rape cases should be handled on a case by case basis EVERY time.
    There should be NO universal laws. Situations are different, circumstances should be taken into consideration. You shouldn’t be able to throw away a mans life because of words written in a book. Throw that piece of shit book away, sit down and look at the case in front of you.
    Make a decision based on what happened, not based on what a paragraph written 25 years ago by a guy who had no idea what was going on in this particular case says should happen. To make a decision like this any other way is to make the wrong deciasion.

    As far as a topic goes – Like I said… You could reasonably argue that LT was one of the best players of all time. He’s being accused of raping a 16 yr old. That sounds like a reasonable topic to cover.
    What would this site have looked like if it existed during the OJ trials? Did OJ hacking his wife to death have anything directly to do with football? No. But it was related to football and would have been reasonable to cover.

  46. Deb says: May 13, 2010 1:22 PM

    @Catamount …
    It’s not a moral issue, but a legal one. Ignorance of the law is not a legal defense to this charge. Take out the prostitution aspect, which is already illegal.
    Let’s say you were 21 and met a girl at the beach. She told you she was 19 and you dated steadily for three months before having sex. Then you discovered she was 16 about the time her dad found you in flagrante delicto. (Earlier I posted if the girl were 17; that was a blooper–it’s if she were 16.) It won’t matter that she lied to you, that she consented, or that you have witnesses to support your ignorance. The age of consent in your state is 17 so you are guilty of statutory rape.
    You might be able to plead it down, but it’s still going on your record and your name is going into the national registry of sex offenders with all that implies. It will forever come up on background checks when you apply for work and will affect where you can live in terms of proximity to schools and playgrounds. Don’t think about coaching your kids’ Little League teams or helping out with their Scout troops. If you move to a new town or state, you’ll have to inform the authorities that the bogeyman has just entered their territory.
    Fair? No. But that’s the way it is.

    First, the girl was sufficiently traumatized after the experience to send an S.O.S. via text message to her uncle, who then called police. This conflicts with the idea that she “didn’t have to have sex” with Taylor.
    ======================
    Really? You don’t think that the site of a 51 year old man jerking off in a hotel room could “traumatize” a 16 year old girl?
    Third, Taylor gave a statement to authorities after he was arrested, before he was charged with having sex with a minor under the age of 17. Aidala said on Friday that he had not yet seen the statement, that he expected to get it this week, and that he planned to attack every aspect of its content and collection. It’s now Thursday, and nothing about the content of the statement has been reported or leaked. Thus, it’s possible that Aidala has received the statement, that he doesn’t like what it says
    =======================
    Or he doesn’t have it yet. Or he just got it yesterday and is carefully putting together a detailed response. Or it didn’t say anything overly incriminating so he is choosing to ignore it for now. All of these things are just as plausible as your “theory”.
    I’m not defending LT- whether he raped her or not, his behavior is absolutely despicable. I feel the same way about this case as I did about BR- whether they committed a crime or not, both are guilty of misogynistic douchebaggery in the first degree.

    Mikeythefish, #5 on your list is hilarious because it’s the exact same argument that Steve Smith used against Floria. Just because he gets paid more doing this (debatable), does not mean he is smart or good at practicing law. I assert that he “must have sucked as a lawyer” because of his obvious biases, his hypocrisy(?) he clearly shows relating to unnamed sources, and his rambling opinions he posts on this website. He demonstrates these qualities for the world to see. I also asserted that profootballtalk is popular because it pulls all of the links for real stories onto one page…NOT because of Floria’s rants.

Maybe he thought she did something wrong and took his (LT) money without doing the “deed” roughed her up and she then sent the text because she felt she did nothing wrong. And she would have told her “uncle” she was with LT then go punched because well she is only 15 and im sure it was not something she really wanted to explain.

    One possible explanation which hasn’t been explored yet is that Larry masturbated wearing the condom on his nose, while the pro played hopscotch wearing a diaper, with Flight of the Valkries blaring full volume from the sound system.
