Attorneys for Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor are continuing to make a public case that he’s innocent of rape charges, saying Friday that a woman has come forward to bolster Taylor’s case that he didn’t have sex with a 16-year-old girl.
The Associated Press reports that Taylor’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, says a woman told defense investigators that she accompanied the girl to a Holiday Inn north of New York City, and that the girl returned to the car after a meeting with Taylor saying she didn’t have sex with him.
It’s not clear who the woman is, although she is presumably the same woman who told a similar story to the New York Daily News.
According to the woman, the 16-year-old got $300 cash from Taylor. So far, there hasn’t been any explanation for why Taylor would meet with a 16-year-old girl in a hotel room and give her $300 cash. There also hasn’t been any explanation for why this 23-year-old woman accompanied the 16-year-old girl to the hotel where she met with Taylor.
Or why she waited a week to speak up when she had important information about a rape case.
Taylor is charged with third-degree rape and patronizing a prostitute.
