Redskins may bring in CFL G.M.

The Redskins are reportedly looking to the North to fill out their front office.

A report in the Montreal Gazette indicates that longtime Montreal Alouette G.M. Jim Popp may be in line for a new gig with the Redskins.

The Alouettes recently worked out an extension for head coach Mark Trestman, but one hasn’t occurred for Popp.  Here’s an interesting quote from the piece:

“Popp, given his success, has an enormous ego — perhaps justifiably — and
has rubbed many in the organization the wrong way.”

The team has made the playoffs every year during Popp’s tenure.

(Thanks for the tip, Washington Post.)

  1. Well at least he wins. Many in the ‘Skins organization had/have huge egos (See Vinny and Danny) and have NEVER won.

  2. If they want to be successful they should bring in someone from the Cheatriots to help them cheat.

  3. And we needed to know this because it’s been like a day since we heard the last Redskins-related rumor?
MF, you must have a daily Skins quota.

Won’t rub Danny Boy the wrong way, in fact he will fit right in.

Why? Is there another 30+ year old, over the hill running back that they haven’t looked into signing yet?

  6. 8 teams in the cfl 6 of them make the playoffs big deal that they have made the playoffs each year he has been there

  7. italian army guy how long are you going yto beat that dead horse. give it up this is not even about the 3 time superbowl champs.

  8. BRING ON THE HATE!!
fact is we are trying to do something good in DC and trying to bring in the right people to help turn this ship around.
Hate all you want but you cant deny this is 10x better than the position we were in last year with Zorn and Bug Eyes running the show.

  9. Ego from being successful in the CFL?
That’s like being proud you’re the 35th best or something.

  10. Jim Popp has a healthy sense of self-worth, no doubt, but the reason why it stands out to people is that he is a bit eccentric both in personality and appearance. Tell you what, though – the guy knows how to spot undervalued players, and how to build a winner. He’s the best GM the CFL has seen in some time. The Redskins would be well served to bring him into the fold.

  11. blah blah blah, There is not 1 regular person who visits this site that could make a decision for an NFL team and I am including the good people who make sure the laundry is done for all of the people on a team. It is so funny how many people on this site actually think they could. Having said that, I think this a terrible decision.
    Hail Skins……………

  12. You know there are only 8 teams in the CFL and 6 make the playoffs. I live in Canada and still think it’s a little ridiculous

  13. doesn’t matter, Skins are old as hell and will still SUCK!! 4th in the east…. again!!
    LOL

  14. LOVE IT!!!! Bring him in…We are becoming the REAL DEAL again…Bout time…How long has it been? The early 90’s????!!! HAIL!!!

  15. “That’s like being proud you’re the 35th best or something.”
32nd best… You forgot about the Rams.

  16. Well, it makes perfect sense when you think about. The Skins have played like a crappy CFL Team for the last decade anyway. Why not bring in a CFL GM. AT least he’ll have a good understanding of their talent level.

  17. They might as well, they had a high school coach last year, so a CFL gm would be some form of an upgrade.

  18. hate hate hate..
you guys are pissed off that you lost the hater of the year award to silky johnson and buck nasty.

  20. Popp is a smart guy, he was the GM of the Baltimore Stallions for the 2 years (94 & 95)they were in the CFL. 2 seasons, 2 Grey Cup games, 1 Grey Cup Championship. The guy knows how to build winners.

I don’t think you should point the finger when there are 4 pointing straight back at you homey. A radio station up here in the DC area did a study on o-lines and once (cumulatively) they reach an age of 120 they start to deteriorate badly. (Its a study) Looks like you all will have significant issues very soon. Eat it dallass..
    HAIL SKINS!!!!!!
