The McCourty brothers could both be starters

New England’s first-round pick Devin McCourty is sure to get plenty of attention this summer from the 83 beat writers paid to cover the Patriots.

Flying under the radar well to the south is Devin’s brother Jason.  The sixth-round Titans pick from the 2009 draft has been lining up as a starter at OTAs as a reward for a strong offseason.

Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil says not to read too much into the nod yet: “Right now it is a completely open position,” Cecil says.

The Titans have two experienced safeties and Cortland Finnegan at cornerback, but the other starting job is a huge question mark.  McCourty, 2009 third-round pick Ryan Mouton, and veterans Rod Hood and Tye Hill all have a chance for the job.

We love the rest of the Titans roster and think they are Super Bowl dark horses.  But they aren’t going to survive four games against the Colts and Texans unless McCourty — or someone else in that group — steps up.

The McCourty brothers both played at Rutgers…..Rutgers will soon be a top 15 program every single year, they just keep putting out solid NFL players

I’m interested to see what Devin brings to the table in NE, had no idea he had a brother drafted by the Titans…

    Superbowl dark horse?
While I think Chris Johnson will have a good year I seriously doubt he will come close to the number he put up last year. Think about 500 less total yards. He is more likely to feel the effect of all those carries last year, since he is staying away from Titans training camp. If he does get hurt they do not have a solid #2 to pick up the slack. Vince Young has not shown enough consistency to make me believe he can lead the team for an entire season. The receivers have shown flashes, but are either young and unproven or veteran and average. The defense last year looked like a shell of the 2008 team.
Oh yeah and they play in the same division as the Colts.

Devin McCourty’s 2 INT’s for 0 return yards in his last 2 full years of college play in the pass-happy Big East conference should make him the perfect compliment to Derrick Burgess’s 2 tackles per game at linebacker.
BRING that garbage defense, Patsies. Mark you calendars – November 14th. In Pittsburgh. SpyGate PayBack Night.

    @ HAIL26-
you are dead on my friend. As long as Schiano doesn’t jump ship the program will continue to churn out talent, and be at the top of teh Big East soon enough. The past few years they have been putting multiple players inot the NFL, and they keep going higher and higher in the draft. Great to finally see some success for the football program.
After suffering through the Ray Lucas/Mike McMahon years and all years prior its refreshing to see the program do well.

If I were a Titans fan I’d be worried. I am a Skins fan and we all know how that pick worked out last year. Sorry Florio, still love ya, but wow.

Richard Seymour only had two sacks his senior in his pass happy conference, too.

Lol, has anyone on this site actually played football before? INT’s aren’t the only way to rate a cornerback…it isn’t even close to being the best evaluation. But again, keep overrating guys like Asante Samuel who will get a few picks but will be invisible in the run game while guys like Devin McCourty lead their college team in tackles…yeah a cornerback who leads their team in tackles, cuz, you know, they also have to defend the run. Football isn’t baseball, stats aren’t black and white.

Keep in mind you guys also said the Redskins were going to the Superbowl last season

Seems like ItalianArmyGuy is confusing American football with the football they play in Italy.
Otherwise he’d understand that guys who put their own INT stats ahead of playing solid zone defense aren’t the types of players Belichick wants.
That’s why he was fine on letting Asante Samuel leave – and is why the Eagles aren’t all that happy with Samuel now.
Basically, the message to ItalianArmyGuy is that if he’s going to post on a football message board he should know something about football.

I know this is just a blog and we’re getting more than we paid for, but you guys really need to make sure you put the players’ positions in each post. I had to figure out that Jason played safety through deduction (if he’s competing against safeties, I assume he’s a safety), but I still don’t know what position Devin plays.

Rutgers baby!!! 3 first round picks in the last 2 drafts!
Tom Savage will be a first round pick in 2 years and will tear up the NFL. Just wait and see

    the eagles love Asante jerky..
NFL corners shouldnt be leading teams in tackles.
Add Allen to the mix…. thats two pass catchers on D…
when you have line backers that can make 120+ tackles a piece, all you want is a ball hawking DB..
Are you guys gonna say that Ed Reed and Troy aren’t sick DBs cause they make pics??
if a corner is makin plays in the run,, ( unless its sheldon the beast brown) your team is letting up at least yards on the outside.

Jason McCourty: meet Andre Johnson, twice.
Schaub will break Norm Van Brocklin’s record for single game yardage in a game this year, if Kube leaves him in.

hey,i just took my foot out of my mouth so i can say something here..what i meant to say is its hard to get picks when the other qb doesn’t throw your way much….and that party i told everybody about is really in my mouth and everyone’s coming…hmmm!!

  25. Ed in NJ says: May 14, 2010 4:24 PM

Jason was the more highly recruited player of McCourty twins, and Devin was part of a package deal during recruitment. As a result, Devin was red-shirted, and that extra year of seasoning is probably the difference between being a 6th round pick and a 1st round pick. Look for Jason to step up in his second year.
One thing about Rutgers players in the NFL, they are hard-workers in the Schiano mold, so if they have the talent to succeed, they will.
