Darrelle Revis says he’ll take Kyle Wilson under his wing

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is one of the best defensive players in the NFL. And he knows it. And he’s not afraid of losing that status any time soon.

Revis is sufficiently confident in his status that he’s more than willing to help a newcomer at the position he plays learn his craft. “I’m going to try to take him under my wing,” Revis said of rookie first-rounder Kyle Wilson, according to Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger. “Kyle seems like a nice guy -- a hard worker.”

Revis likes what he has heard from the coaches about Wilson, whom Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan supposedly wanted his team to take with the seventh overall pick.

“After that rookie minicamp -- we had that week off -- but I stayed up here,” Revis said. “I was talking to the coaches about him just to see what they thought. They say he’s going to help us a lot and he’s a hard worker.”

Wilson is expected to immediately serve as nickel corner for the Jets. And if he develops quickly he could quickly render Antonio Cromartie moot as a starter -- and as a member of the team.
