Patriots receiver Wes Welker recently caused some confusion regarding his December 2009 knee injury, claiming that he injured only the ACL in his knee. Widespread reports had indicated that Welker injured the ACL and the MCL.
According to Jeff Latzke of the Associated Press, Welker has clarified the situation, acknowledging that he tore both ligaments, but that only the ACL required surgery.
“We just had to wait for it to heal,” Welker said of the MCL. “We didn’t have to do surgery on it.”
And that’s a good thing. Per published reports from late 2008, Pats quarterback Tom Brady developed a staph infection because his surgeon decided to work on an injured MCL while repairing the injured ACL.
