Matt McChesney, a backup offensive lineman who had a chance at making the 53-man roster in Denver this season, may never be playing football again. According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, McChesney’s career could be over after a golf cart struck his foot, causing a severe ankle injury.
McChesney had just climbed out of his cart when a trailing cart accidentally struck him. The ankle had been surgically repaired after he was injured during the 2009 preseason.
Per Klis, the Broncos want McChesney to try to rehab the injury and join the team for training camp. McChesney, however, apparently is ready to call it quits.
He entered the league in 2005 as a defensive tackle with the Jets. He later converted to guard, and he spent 2008 with the Dolphins.
