Mark Sanchez participates in drills

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’s return from offseason knee surgery took a step forward on Monday when he participated in drills at the team’s first day of organized team activities.

Sanchez took some reps in 7-on-7 drills and went through the quarterback drills but didn’t take part in the full team drills during the OTA. Sanchez had surgery to stabilize the patella ligament in his left knee in February and started jogging on grass last week.

“Mark looked good throwing the ball today,” cornerback Antonio Cromartie told The Associated Press.

In other Jets news, nose tackle Kris Jenkins and linebacker Jason Taylor both missed the first day of OTAs. Jenkins is making his way back from a season-ending ACL injury and there’s no timetable for his return to the field. Taylor was at a charity event in South Florida on Sunday night and is expected to participate in Tuesday’s workout.
