Your OTA absence roundup

A dozen NFL teams kick off OTAs Monday, so news should pick up this week from sssslow to sorta slow.

We don’t want to get hysterical over absences at OTAs.  After all, the events are voluntary and many players will miss a handful of practices for good reasons.

For that reason, we’ll include all the early absences in one post instead of dragging the news out and giving it more importance than is merited.  Here goes:

Tampa Bay: Kellen Winslow, Derrick Ward, left tackle Donald Penn, and guard Davin Joseph are all absent, according to Pewter Report.  Penn’s absence was expected; he’s in a contract standoff.  Joseph recently underwent surgery.

Dallas: Marcus Spears, who has signed his restricted free agent tender, was not in attendance.  Patrick Crayton was a no-show, as expected. Tony Romo was there in favor of Byron Nelson Classic.

Denver: DJ Williams and Jamal Williams are out for Denver.  Unsigned restricted free agent Elvis Dumervil is on the field.

Kansas City: The Chiefs have perfect attendance except for unsigned restricted free agent Jarrad Page.

  1. Nothing to worry about with Winslow and Ward from the Bucs. they’re high priced free agents who don’t need to show up for this. I’m sure they’ll be there for mandatory one coming up.

  2. yeah, never a need to worry about winslow. he is such a professional and so skilled at his position he doesnt need to practice.
oh wait, thats the opposite of what he is.

  3. Must be nice to be a journalist that can get away with writing words like “sorta.”

  4. Good to hear Elvis Dumervil is there setting a good example. Just show up and play football. It’s not that difficult. You would think that not showing up to training camp and workouts would only hurt you, not the team. If anything, teams realize that they really don’t need you. Jerome Harrison 😐

  5. Are these things optional or not? Has that definition been changed like “sub-minimum wage”???
If it’s a requirement and part of their contract, then enforce it. Otherwise, why find things to cause trouble?

  7. I can understand why a player who lives in a beautiful southern state wouldn’t want to spend extra time in Cleveland, Buffalo, or any other city where the weather stinks in the offseason if he doesn’t have to. Winslow lives in Florida right? What’s his excuse, besides being a mental baby?

Well I guess that’s not perfect attendence, is it? Haha
