St. Louis Rams rookie receiver Mardy Gilyard, a fourth-round pick out of the University of Cincinnati, was robbed at gunpoint near the Cincinnati campus Monday night.
WLWT reports that Gilyard was walking with another man just after 9:30 p.m. when two men approached, one holding a gun. Gilyard had a $500 necklace and $90 in cash taken from him.
Police have made no arrests, and no one was injured. There’s no word on whether Gilyard, who was a star player for the Bearcats, was specifically targeted in the robbery.
Just keepin’ in real
$500 necklaces = getting jacked for your ish
Sorry you got robbed, Mardy. Don’t wear jewelry. It makes you less of a target for robbers….and it’s kinda gay for a dude to wear jewelry.
Before the anti-firearms patrol flocks to this post let me say this:
If firearms were banned in America……this guy (robber) would just have bought it online from another country. You cannot keep guns out of the hands of the bad guys and off the streets.
That is why you should allow the good guys to carry guns as well.
If those idiot robbers would follow PFT they would have known Gilyard hadn’t signed his contract yet. If they waited a few weeks, the take would have been $50,000 in bling and $9,000 in cash.
Real men do not wear necklaces.
Anyone wearing a Mr. T starter kits deservers to get robbed at gun point.
How long before we hear that Gilyard violated some conduct code by being outside after 9:00PM, as though random street crime doesn’t happen all the time?
UC campus is right in the middle of a cess pool named over the Rhine. Nothing but class oozzing from that area.
That’s what you get for wearing a $500 necklace in plain site at night. Throw in Cincinnati and it all makes sense. Tuck it in buddy, pull it back out when you get to the party.
that’s a bad part of town to be walking around it, for those of you who have never been outside of campus. It’s the hood. He should have known better than to be wearing that and walking around there with it on.
If they held up Ocho-Cinco, those fools could have retired to the French Riveria.
That’s what happens when you wear your ice in public
On an unrelated topic, Marvin Lewis was seen with a new $500 necklace, given to him as a gift by his team.
Any reports on PacMan’s location just after 9:30?
I bet the two men were Tank Johnson & Pacman…
Another day in Cincinnati. Somehow that city doesn’t get the reputation it deserves for being a crime-riddled, decrepit hellhole.
Probably a couple of Bengals, just doin’ what they do…
Thank God he wasn’t killed for those.
UC’s campus is surrounded by crime ridden neighborhoods. I wouldn’t want my kid living there. Chances are, he was not targeted. Just happen to be the first person to walk by these idiots when they decided to jack someone. It could have just as easily been a poor freshman with $20.00 on him and the same thing would have happened.
Yeah, because there is nothing that says “Don’t Rob Me” more than wearing a $500 chain around your neck.
Someone better tell dude that he’s a NFL player now and he might want to do some research on how often these guys are targeted.
Snitches get stitches
Dude strutting around campus, showing off his new bling. Real question is – what was his GPA and did he actually get any sort of degree? Very doubtful. Stupid is, stupid does.
Do you guys realize that a $500 necklace is nothing. It was probably bought at some mall jewelry store. It’s not as if he was wearing some six-figure bling like some athletes wear. $500!! You can probably get a $500 necklace at Sears.

Yup.
My roommate at UC got held up at gunpoint not two blocks from the main drag in Clifton walking home from the bar. I couldn’t wait to get out of that neighborhood.
Sucks for Mardy, he seems like a good guy:

robert ethan always has something funny to say
haha
thank God him and his friend weren’t killed
So accordding to these post A guy wearing a necklace makes himself a target? Bull*hit you should be able to have nice things without gettting robbed or having to hide it. You people are such scum you think living like your scared you’ll get robbed is normal. Robbing people is wrong, wearing necklace is ok. dumba**

========================================
Just the fact that they would have to be smuggled in, as opposed to buying them at the local store, would cut down on the amount of guns available for these thugs.
They’d be allot more expensive too.
where is the suspected Bengal speculation in this article?

way too funny and so true
Dear Cincy,
Good to see we’re not the only crime-ridden cesspool in the news these days. Remember more Americans were killed in here last year than Baghdad.
Sincerely, with love

Pease do not post until you pass English…….
most of you guys are idiots.
props to jj jones for pointing out that a $500 necklace is nothing special…
anyone who knows anything about gilyard knows that he is a class act and anything but a hoodlum.
as for nohio, UC’s campus is actually in a decent neighborhood called clifton, next to a not-so-nice neighborhood called coryville. OTR is not really that close.
and steveincinci– i lived walking distance from the campus, frequently walking to and from campus for the 2+ years i was there and never had any problems. get your sheltered ass out of the suburbs and learn something about the real world.
criminals are EVERYWHERE…which begs the question…hey js136202, where do YOU live?
this guy cant catch a break, but he sure can catch a ball.
VERYNICE
Thank God Chris Henry had an alibi this time.
@Ken West…a $500 necklace is nothing…most of you guys bought wedding rings for 5 times more than that! So WHY are you jumping on him? I could see if it was $50,000, that would be excessive
But I guess none of you were ever young before? You never wore any jewelry at all? And even if he did, that gives NO ONE the right to rob him!!
IDIOTS…most of you are! Judgemental muthaF’s who were most likely the BIGGEST PUNKS in your school so you hate on pro athletes bc they were the ones kicking ur ass back then! LOL…
Now please tell me again, WHY SHOULDN’T NFL PLAYERS CARRY GUNS??? They are much bigger targets than you or I will ever be…their salaries are public info
@Chapnasty, Monarch, and all other morons who advocate Gilyard “had it coming.”
Are freakin kidding me?
Following your logic, we should tell Yeardley Love’s parents that their daughter deserved to die because she had dated an alcoholic with violent tendencies.
The criminals are the problem, not the victims.
a 500$ necklace could have just been a plain gold necklace without a pendant or anything.
lol people really think a $500 chain is a ticket to getting mugged? its not exactly a diamond studded piece

well when you’re right, you’re right.
He’s lucky he wasn’t shot by those two.
He’ll get the money back, no problem.
But it’s stories like this that lead NFL players to carry guns for self-protection, right Plax? And Shaun whatshisface at the airport?
Cops only respond after you call, once you’ve been victimized. they don’t prevent much….
Housh wasn’t in town was he? Payback.
What’s up with black dudes and jewelry? Is it a status thing like Mexicans and putting cow stickers on the side of their cars?
obviously detroit, cincinnati, and baghdad are the 3 worst cities in the universe. are you KIDDING me?? cincinnati and detroit are only rough because all the wealth is in the suburbs, like 90% of midwestern cities. i also forgot that new york, dallas, chicago, washington, etc. are completely crime free. never amugging or robbery or murder or rape. never.
All cities have their rough parts so say what you want about Cincy. Cincy is a nice area to live and raise a family in. I don agree that Over-the-Rhine is a terrible place and it does attribute to the majority of the crime in the city. Its ashame that the Steelers team hotel isn’t located there.
Tony Pike probably robbed him in rage since Mardy got drafted before him.

So basically all females, married men and anyone else wearing a watch or any other sort of jewelry deserves to get robbed?
CleanSlaton I see you spewing your filth all over this site but usually you at least have something resembling a point (even though you’re just trying to troll) but this time you literally make no sense at all
“Right, because that line of thinking has worked so well in stopping the sale, use, and accessibility of drugs, and in stemming the flood of illegals, hasn’t it?”
You do realize that if drugs and illegal immigration were legal, that there would be a hell of a lot more drug users and mexicans here, right??? Your point proves nothing
To make matters worse, he then went home only to find Delonte West bangin’ his mom.
OK, I’ll ask again and maybe this time it’ll get posted.
Did the necklace say “DTF”?
If you’re going to wear Bling, make sure you’re carrying that Thing, meaning your .45 or 9mm. Nobody deserves to get robbed for wearing some jewelry.

I agree in general on CleanSlaton.. But in this specific case, I gotta side with him. He didn’t say anyone DESERVES to be robbed. He said it makes them a target. Do you disagree with that?
Secondly, I doubt he was talking about watches. It’s pretty clear to me he means necklaces, bracelets, etc.

Pacman , and OJ simpson planned it

Anyone saying a $500 necklace is nothing has no clue about the real world.
These kids kill for 5 bucks or because you looked at them wrong, so yes a $500 POS necklace does make you a target.
And what moron assumes that thugs can apprise the value anyways.
@ALL
Anyone saying a $500 necklace is nothing and is not a factor is a fool.

I know the massive mid-west crowd won’t get this, but being in DC my entire life I always have been careful about what watch to wear. If I am going some place and think for one second safety could be an issue I leave all non-essentials at home, like anyone with common sense would. So again, this fool lacks common sense and got what was coming to him.
Mardy,
Get yourself some bodyguards. I have some and they ALWAYS keep me out of trouble.

Big Ben
I love that I hit the comments button and saw the posts I expected from the low lives in here. He shouldn’t have been wearing the jewelry, then he wouldn’t have gotten robbed.
Wonder if it was Sam Bradford getting car jacked for his Benz or Lexus, if the same jackasses would be here condemning him for doing what he wants to do with his own money without worrying about getting jacked. Because you know, the Cincinnati campus is this rough and tumble place where you shouldn’t be walking around with, gasp, a $500 necklace and $90 in your pocket. Some of you clowns are hilarious. Sad state of affairs in America where the victim gets blamed if he doesn’t fit what you think a victim should look like.
Ten commandments, one of them is “Thou shalt not steal.” Too bad Giliard didn’t understand that he’s the blame for the other guy breaking that rule.

God it never ceases to amaze me how dumb and unmotivated people here are. Dude was homeless, living out of a car for an extended period of time after getting cut from the team. He re-tried out after holding down three jobs to pay off he debt he accumulated and continued to accumulate while (continuing to be) enrolled at UC.
To answer your question (at least the second part of it) Yes, he graduated in 2008 with a degree in sociology. Idiot. But, what do I expect, stupid is as stupid eos right R8tersfan?

Jeesh…….. Mike……..
How is it that you continually allow these racist low-lifes to pass?
Their membership priviledges ought to be expeditiously revoked.
‘Nation………..
Isn’t this the guy that worked 4 jobs to pay back his school after he got kicked out and was reinstated the next season? Wasn’t he homeless and living in his car? I think a $500 necklace shows a lot of restraint for a guy signing an NFL deal that came from nothing. This guy needs a break already.

—————————————————-
You make a very valid point (And you are being civil about it too) but will that keep them from getting the guns? If they have to pay more to get them would they just give up….or would they just rob more people or commit bigger crimes because of the higher price and pain in the ass they have to deal wit to get said gun?
Also if none of the good guys carry guns, the risk of committing crimes goes down exponentially since the likely-hood that a store/home owner has a gun is around zero.
I have no issue with gun laws to try and prevent these people getting guns, I just think that banning gun sales in America is not the way to go about it.

That comment shows me that inside, you are SCUM. Worse than Chris Henry ever was. You should be banned from the site for spewing such a hateful/low comment about someone who is dead.
