Macho Harris moves to cornerback

Macho Harris has moved from free safety to right cornerback in Philadelphia.

Jeff McLane of Philly.com reports that at today’s OTAs, Harris was lined up exclusively at right cornerback. That’s where Harris played at Virginia Tech, and he says he’s happy to play there — or wherever the Eagles’ coaches tell him to play.

There ain’t no disappointment at all,” Harris said. “Wherever the team needs me or whatever the team needs certain players at certain positions [to do], we’re professional athletes.”

Harris won’t necessarily stay at right cornerback into the regular season, however. The competition at right cornerback will include Ellis Hobbs and from Marlin Jackson, whom the Eagles signed in March but who isn’t fully recovered from a torn ACL he suffered in October. If Harris doesn’t win the starting job, he might move back to free safety.

With his name why isn’t he playing for the Jets?

So, this entry tells us…nothing? This has been what’s been being said all off season. Macho Harris can play safety and corner. We’ll see how it all shakes out. Try guys in different spots. Blah Blah Blah.
What a shocker. The Eagles are letting multiple guys compete with Hobbs for the spot…
Super job. Keep up the good work.

What a wasted pick and situation for this guy. He was a stud athlete at VT playing returner and CB, and he excelled. Then this crappy organization picks this guy up and turns him into complete trash. Switching him around from S to CB isn’t going to make him any faster. He’s physically more able to play S, and even I think that’s a mistake in that terrible defense they run over there.
But then again, who cares about jokes? It’s the Eagles lol

Harris was a bum last year. I’m just clinging to the irrational hope that one of these slapdicks can pull a decent season out of their ass.

Reed Doughty – please die. What is it about your life that entitles you to look down upon the Eagles D? Let’s also not forget it’s Macho’s second year so NOBODY knows what position he will excel at. But most importantly Mr. Doughty, please die.

It’s his upbringing. Harris’ parents always wanted him to fit in. Not be agressive or pushy. Come to a consensus and always strive to get along.

    @Doughty
Shut up dumbass. Macho was in a tough spot being a rookie CB forced into the playing FS without any experience, but now he’s back to the position that he is comfortable with. The Eagles have a great young nucleus of players, so get ready to eat your words
    @Duck Fallas
Macho never played safety before. He was in a tough spot last year. Last season he was undersized as a tackler and whiffed a lot but he was pretty good in coverage. I remember how well he shut down Tony G @ Atlanta. Give him some time to develop. Now he’s back at his natural position so expect to see some improvement from him, especially with an entire year under his belt. Patience is key

Macho isn’t exactly a waste yet as he was 4th Round pick going into his second year.
Let’s face it though, the last all-american CB from VT whos name escapes right now who also played on the short side of the field was a failed S/CB as well.
Michael Jenkins who was a first rounder last year (also a college shortside CB all-american) had to be replaced with street free agents Mike McKenzie and Chris McAllister
Give him some time… and I dont even want to get into the return game thing Macho considering Jackson, Maclin, and Hobbs , etc

    Bud,
Try not to be angry with Mr Doughty. His life is not easy, what with his wife being a close personal friend of 27 Eagles players at last count…not including undrafted free agents.

DeAngelo Hall? Didn’t know he played safety at any point. Or am I forgetting someone?

  22. Chris says: May 19, 2010 4:21 PM

Macho was a beast in college and the Eagles screwed up baddly by moving him to FS last year. I think he has a chance at the starting right cornerback spot, and if not, should play a lot in the nickel and dime packages.

  23. myeaglescantwin says: May 19, 2010 4:25 PM

macho is a CB always ways.

Sure. He could still play center.

  25. Chris says: May 19, 2010 4:27 PM

Macho Harris, David Pender, Hoselio Hanson, Dimitri Patterson, or Trevard Lindley all have a shot at the starting nickel and dime packages. They all show potential (Harris and Pender in particular) and they will all make special teams impacts.

  28. Sterling says: May 19, 2010 5:38 PM

    Philbirds,
The “last All-American CB from VT” would be Brandon Flowers. Who is highly regarded and has made quite an impact w/the Chiefs. Moving from CB to safety, for a rookie, is a difficult move, and you expect Macho NOT to make rookie mistakes? At a new position?
What are you smokin’, man? Whatever it is, it ain’t good for your brain.

@ I’m Not “Ed” Reed Doughty: you, sir, are a complete boob.
@ MDS: Marlin (or Tito or Randy) Jackson is slated to play safety &/or nickel. He won’t be in the mix to start @ RCB.
@ Vox: I’m impressed with your….wait, nope, not impressed with any of your weak comments. Let’s hope your new kicker can make some FG & the multiple “schisms” find a way to heal…..
But, what I really want to know is why you azz clowns got nothing to say about REVIS asking for $20M?!?

  32. hunglow says: May 19, 2010 8:23 PM

The last cb from vt that was a failure was Jimmy Williams who was drafted by Atlanta. Smoked too much pot and was lazy.

  33. TheDPR says: May 19, 2010 8:37 PM

Harris doesn’t have the speed (unless he’s been going to a magical speed coach this offseason) to be a top end starting cornerback in the NFL.
Nickel corner? Sure, I think he’d be fine there.
Free safety? He was pretty bad there without any experience but it seems to me that if the Eagles are willing to allow him to learn different positions then they think he’s smart enough to stick with the team in some capacity.
I can see him doing some of both and maybe winning either the nickel corner or free safety job.

  34. jamaltimore says: May 19, 2010 11:35 PM

Your thinking about the other CB bust from Atlanta Jimmy LOVE THE WEED Williams. Macho Harrison can play and will help the eagles win. He’s a classy kid and I hope he ends up making it. Hopefully he’ll work it out and prove there’s not all busts and LOUD MOUTH OVERPAID, PUNK at tech like williams and Angelo “he lost the D cause he plays none” Hall!

  35. dlightner says: May 20, 2010 12:07 PM

Macho Harris was a CB in VT. a beat of one at that. The Eagles put him at free safety, undersized and following Brian Dawkins. Did anyone actually expect him to be good. Jeez give the guy a chance its his second year

  36. Mooch says: May 20, 2010 11:01 PM

What’s next? Sav Rocca moving to CB? Or Reno Mahe coming back to play the position?
This guy was a decent college player in a B- conference. He is a special teamer at best.
WHITE. MAN. HIPS. Cannot turn and run. Case closed. Please upgrade this position, this guy is not an NFL caliber player.
The kid from Kentucky already has this job locked up.
