Even though Zach Thomas officially retired from the NFL earlier today by signing a one-day contract with the Dolphins, he still has one remaining item of pro football business.
We’ve learned that Thomas has a pending injury grievance against the Chiefs.
Per a league source, the grievance is filed and a hearing is expected a few months from now.
Thomas presumably contends that he was cut by the Chiefs while suffering from an injury incurred while participating in practices with the team. That’s likely why Thomas and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, disputed rumors last year that Thomas would be retiring. If he had retired then, he would have had no claim to ongoing salary from the Chiefs.
