1. Yes, NFL teams can cut a player at anytime, that is why all contracts include guaranteed money.
2. NFL players have 45 years to “get paid” nothing says they can’t work a real job after their careers are over.
3. Johnson has 5 years left on his contract so he might as well shut up.

If you include Johnson’s guaranteed money prorated over the life of the contract, I believe you will find that Fitzgerald is only making about 2 – 2.5 million per year more than Johnson.

players in the NFL have a limited amount of time to get “paid”, before they know it, their talent is diminished. As it stands right now A Johnson is arguably the best receiver in the NFL, definitely in the top 3. in 5 years he won’t be able to get the amount of money he can command now… I think if the NFL can just cut your contract and fire you, then you should be able to b!tch and moan for a “raise”, personally I think he deserves to be paid as the top WR, esp playing for the Texans…

Ceetown – maybe that’s the problem;
Players are looking to get ‘paid’. They are playing a game – maybe they should be looking to get ‘winning’.
It’s funny how the players start talking about how this is a ‘business’ when in reality there is nothing business-like about them. They don’t share in the risks of ownership; but continually talk about how hard done by they are.
Boo-hoo, poor Jamarcus Russell got cut. Raiders tore up his contract. $39 million – funny, I don’t hear you asking JaBustus to give back bucks for UNDERPERFORMING…are you?
What is this predeliction with the individual about, anyways? If I’m a team X fan and we can get player Y at a bargain, why should I cry that he should get a raise…(unless he’s part of my family, of course).
Hell – use the resources elsewhere to improve the team. Get an RB…
Kids can’t afford to go to school, hardly have anything of a medical system, corporations running the country…
…but Pay the Man!!! STFU

first off to address the comment from bona fide

secondly, to the author of the article, GR
throw in a little bit about how the unc became his agent and why… how about what the hell AJohnson was thinking not hiring a “power” agent to get max value… doesn’t make sense, I understand unc is fam, but this is business, these guys deal with the same people over and over again, kind of like judges & lawyers, and can work out better deals, so to speak… either way, a little background on a story like this would be nice, but still a decent article I guess, I read it.

Andre Johnson needs to stop being a little b*tch. So Larry Fitz has a bigger contract – that’s the risk you take when you sign a multi-year deal. Suck it up and when you’ve only got 1-2 years left, THEN you begin to talk about a new deal.
Complaining while you’re barely halfway into your existing contract is unprofessional and frankly immature.
