I’ve been a Vikings fan for about 20 years now and was wondering why it took you so long to realize that Minnesota was one of the most snake-bitten, FLUKE franchises in history?
I was really confused when I heard that after only one off-season removed from winning their first Super Bowl, the WHODAT nation has begun claiming that their Saints are the greatest franchise in NFL history.
That this team for the ages, BARELY squeaked by the biggest choke artist, fluke, insert homosexual insult here, team in the NFL, in OT, at HOME?
I’ll let you figure this one out on your own. By the way, I was wondering if you could hook me up for next year’s NFC championship. When my fluke, choke artist Vikings lose a close one in OT to the eventual SB champs, I’ll need something much stronger than the case of Bud I guzzled last year.

The Vikings are the red-headed stepchild of the NFC Norris division. They can’t claim the tradition, nor rivalry, associated with the legendary Bears or Packers, nor have they been historically hapless like the Lions (except for losing 4 Super Bowls) to garner the type of sympathy that would appear to make them relevant outside of Minnesota. Instead- they’ve simply acquired the biggest reputation for choking on their own pole. That’s right, they’re a team with historical tendencies to choke, faulter, die, implode in the last quarter of the season, playoff game and Super Bowl.

Starcaps containing Butemide is a special case. It isn’t like there are dozens of supplements out there with banned substances in them. Starcaps was a special case and the NFL withheld information, leading to a massive shiz storm that jeopardizes the foundation of the drug testing policy.
Yet they sit back and talk like the Williamses are the problem. Time to just face the music NFL. You screwed up and got caught.

The average appeal to the Minnesota Court of Appeals takes 9-12 months. I clerked a year for the chief judge and never once saw the court grant an expedited appeal. If they lose, the process of appealing to the Supreme Court takes a couple months. Thus, it looks like the Williams boys are safe for another season (likely Pat’s last).
Both sides should just settle this. It’s bad PR for the league and the players. As to the uniform application of the bargaining agreement in light of state law issue argued by the NFL, that’s a pile of crap. All they have to do is put a clause in the next collecctive bargaining agreement stating that the agreement pre-empts state law. Instead, the NFL is pushing this matter in the federal and state appellate courts to create publised opinions and binding law, which only hurts the league’s standing.

The NFL may have had an obligation to disclose StarCaps as a product containing banned substances. But that doesn’t change the fact that two men, who are paid to be huge were ingesting a diuretic that masks steroid use.
It also isn’t relevant to two players who are now trying to circumvent NFL rules which were agreed to under the collective bargaining agreement. You can’t point the finger at the NFL as a union representative and then turn around and violate a different set of rules under the same agreement from an ivory tower.
The specific person or group who neglected to have StarCaps on the list of banned substances should be suspended without pay for four weeks during the NFL season and the Williamses, along with the others, should serve the suspensions that were originally ordered by the NFL.
There have been congressional hearings and investigations into steroid use, trafficking and so on. Why not a congressional investigation into state courts, governors and so others who invent laws to protect sporting figures from fair disciplinary action which in turn protects the business interests of the corporate sponsors who pay to have their names in the stadiums those same sporting figures compete in.
This case has been a joke from the beginning. People are talking about Lawrence Taylor being banned from the hall of fame for something he might have done. Yet two cheaters who believe they’re above the rules of the NFL are allowed to continue playing without consequence.
Well, if Tom Cable can act like Pacman Jones without supplementary discipline I suppose anything’s possible.

The NFL is trying to avoid a situation here and I don’t blame them one bit. The NFL’s contention right from the beginning has been- YOU are responsible for what you put in your body. Period. How did they find out about the unlisted ingredient? That;s right they tested it. Tell me why a player couldn’t do the same. A bunch of players call the NFL asking, “Can I use this stuff or not?” At first I sided with the players and said, well they didn’t know, after all the maker didn’t list all the ingredients. Then I thought why are these guys crying to the NFL when they can send anything to a lab and get the fact before they ever take something like StarCaps. New drinks and supplements are coming out every week. Should the NFL be responsible for testing everything that comes out. It’s not reasonable. Besides, the NFL has published an APPROVED supplement list. If you use something outside of that list, your are on your own. The suspensions are inevitable.
