Pats shuffle quarterbacks

Yeah, this isn’t quite as exciting as when Matt Cassel or Drew Bledsoe were traded.

But who knows, perhaps the release of quarterback Jeff Rowe and the pickup of Mike Teel to replace him will change the course of Patriots franchise.

Teel first broke the news on Twitter, and it has since been confirmed by his agent. Teel was waived by the Seahawks on Thursday.  He has an uphill battle to make the Patriots roster.

New England also cut tight end Robbie Agnone.

  1. Belicheck’s son plays lacrosse at Rutgers, and is friends with Greg Schiano, so the RU faithful were expecting him to get a look in NE. Who knows, he’s very similar in style to Brady, so he should be comfortable in the offense. Hope he sticks.

  2. Teel will make this team. I was very sorry to see him not work out in Seattle. He has an outstanding pocket pressence a lot like the guy currently leading the way for the Pats. What a perfect situation he just landed in. I wish him the best.

  3. Im sure the undeafeated, errr 18-1 patriots have seen a LOT of video on this guy!

  4. Hey guys, gals. Spygate is dead! It’s official. Move on!
Don’t know much about Teel, like his size and I hope your right about being a presence in the pocket. Why not give him a shot in camp?
Nobody knew that Cassel would be as good as he turned out to be, well except BB the mastermind. The Patriots do a great job of player development. UDFA’s low round picks and nobody is better than Scar with O-linemen.
I have a good feeling about this season..Bunch of young talent, speed and youth on the defense and depth at WR. Brady will have plenty of targets..Plus the second year for Tom’s knee recovery!
The secondary will be better and I think the pass rush issue will work itself out. The depth at LB is also outstanding inside and hopefully Crable, Cunningham and Davis can compete for the OLB open spot. TBC had 10 sacks last year and knows the system well. Call me an optimist..but I’m bullish on the years version of the Pats…

    TUCK RULE!

    Ben Dreith Game!
    December 18, 1976
In the final minute of the fourth quarter Raymond Hamilton of the Patriots was flagged for roughing the passer against Ken Stabler of the Raiders on a 3rd-and-18 play, even though replays showed no roughing; Dreith said the call was made because Hamilton had hit Stabler’s helmet, but replays showed Stabler ducking away from Hamilton. Despite Patriot protests (Hamilton was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for his protests) the call stood, and at the Patriot 1-yard line Stabler ran in the game-winning touchdown with ten seconds left in a 24-21 Raiders win. Patriot protests over Dreith’s call were such that Dreith was not assigned to work any games involving the Patriots until 1987.
    Karma, baby. Just karma!

  6. Spygate may be dead in the courts, but in the hearts and minds if all the NFL fans who were deprived of 8 years of fair football in the league, it is alive and well.
    Deal with it.

    TUCK RULE!
…IS STILL CALLED TO THIS DAY AND WAS A LEGIT CALL BY THE REFS! PLUS MY RAIDERS STILL HAD 2 DRIVES TO NUT UP AND STOP THE PATRIOTS AND NEVER DID!
I think that’s what you were aiming for.

  8. Too funny!
ItalianArmyGuy and his fellow whiners from Pittsburgh, Oakland and who knows how many other teams are STILL psychologically traumatized by their humiliating losses to the Patriots.
When did so many fans become such whining pussies?

  9. Hahaha, give me a break the Pats cheated,YEAH and your teams where all goody too shoes… right, they did the exact same thing, they all did it..But everybody is envious of a hell of a good football team with 3 rings baby….ohh well,,,,,,makes for stupid comments on your part anyway!!!

You, by self admission, are the “deprived One”. You are the one who must “deal” with “it”
We Patriot Fans are perfectly fine with the records, rings, past and future winnings.
    Trick ass looooser>

  12. Well Jimmy Johnson said he videotaped signals too, so lets wipe out the Cowboys SB’s in the 90s. Everyone knows the 70s Steelers were full of steroid abusers, so let’s take them out of the books. The 90s Broncos cheated with the salary cap, so yup, they are gone too. The 72 Dolphins need an asterisk, seeing Shula was hired illegally and they were stripped of a draft pick. Cheating is part of every sport. You just decide for yourself what type of cheating actually affected the games. If you look back on the Patriots dynasty, you realize those teams were defensive minded, so how would taping the other teams defensive signals affect the Patriots defense? Then, after getting caught, the Patriots offense became the greatest of all time. There is a reason why so many people have defended the taping of signals…yeah it was wrong, but it had very very very little impact if any. Individual players taking steroids has a much larger impact. Tampering has a much larger impact. But the majority of football fans are the most ignorant of any sport, so obviously they will never let it go. Just come up with better jokes about it…

  13. Have fun with those asterisks, Pats* “fans” (I use that term loosely, since most of you didn’t exist before 2001), you earned them…

  14. It seems every Pats article degenerates in to “They cheated” and such, give a rest already, none of you are original or funny with your statements.
    Thank you to 8man,
I’ve been a Pats fan since 1973 and remember that 1976 Playoff game at Oakland. We may have gotten away with one with the Tuck Rule but so what, we got screwed ROYALLY in ’76 and that team could have easily won the Super Bowl that year had they got past the Raiders.
Like they say, it all evens out in the end.

Wow, your internet muscles are huge! Way to talk shit on a message board…too bad you don’t do it in real life.

  17. Dick Vermeil: “It didn’t help them win”
Jimmy Johnson: “Yeah I did the same thing”
Bill Cowher: “We had wristbands to protect against that”
Jay Fiedler: “They wouldn’t have known our signals anyways”
Herm Edwards: (waves at the spygate camera)
Yep, let’s ignore these guys and listen to guys who really know what’s going on. Murabma, Ognee, Whatdiga, ItalianArmyGuy, Matt Walsh. The “experts”. LOL
It was a big conspiracy, right? Those tapes of the Chargers cheerleaders butts, and Herm waving at the camera. GAME BREAKER!

  18. I enjoy licking the salty, bitter tears of fans of lesser franchises.
The level of psychological trauma imposed on these poor, twisted individuals by the team of the 90’s is quite something to behold.
    Its not over yet, either.
    Pussies.

  19. Wasnt spygate in 2007? Sucks to be jet fans. Did anyone see binocgate in MLB the other day. Wheres Arlen Spector at there bashing thr Phillies and wanting to take away all there success. Funny how that stuff works, theyre pitching coach sits in bullpen all night with Binoculars and steals signs ,and surprisingly theyre best offensive team in MLB. Patriots got caught, then became the best offensive team in NFL.

  20. Gasface,
    where’s Arlen Spector? UNEMPLOYED
I loved watching him cry on the news as he cast his vote knowing that he was getting voted out.
Wasting taxpayers $$ with his stupid rants and taking Comcasts $$ another useless politician.

  21. Amazing how badly whatdiga’s butt still hurts after that 52-7 spanking NE gave the Redskins three years ago.

  22. Oh yeah, i forgot about 52-7! Gonna be a
rough year i think. Predict 2 and 8, then 6
or more wins to close out. 2 out of next 5
SB’s after that. Rooks need to grow up,
    takes time.
    Celts i think will win.
Sox will be way better after all star break.
Sucks to be fron some other city i suppose.
    italianarmyguy makes me laugh.
    Funny, but not ha-ha funny.
See yall in hell! Congrats to NOLA, Colts
SD and Favre. And NYJ? Think they’ll be
AFC champs this year. Enjoy the respite!

  24. @ NFL4EVER
We didn’t “get away with one” regarding the tuck rule. The correct call was made based on the rulebook. Walt Coleman is on record as saying that the second he saw the replay, he had to reverse the call on the field because of the Tuck Rule. Hate the rule itself. I do. I’m a Pats fan, and I think that’s a fumble! But, I’ll take it!
The Roughing the Passer call is a judgement call. That’s the difference. The Raiders got away with that one. It clearly was NOT roughing the passer. Any football fan worth his salt, including Raiders fans, knows that. But, maybe I’m assuming too much.

  25. Whiny fans from lesser franchise’s make me laugh. It gives me a reason to appreciate my team —
    Every. Single. Day.
